This looks awesome! After decades of riding conventional road, mtn and recently gravel bikes, (including several bikepacking adventures here and overseas), I've recently had to get an ebike (for medical reasons). Not wanting to give up bikepacking, I've now set up our ebikes(wife's too) with bikepacking bags and thinking about multi-day adventures. Rail Trails are a great option as they all pass thru' villages and towns hopefully with accomodation (to recharge the batteries). I'm curious if the villages along the BVRT all offer bike friendly accommodation. FYI too, the Tweed section (Murwillumbah - Crabbes Creek) of the M'bah - Casino rail trail opens at noon on 1st March, 2023. Hopefully, the remaining sections will follow soon too. Keep up your great vids! :-)

Thanks for watching. The BVRT is great. We had no trouble taking bikes into our accommodation - Toogoolawah, Yarraman and Esk. There’s free camping with hot showers at Linville and I believe there’s electricity available to re-charge e-bikes. We’re looking forward to riding the new section of the mBah to Casino rail trail. There’s also a new one up near Gladstone in Qld that we’ve tried to ride twice but have been thwarted by heavy rain. Lots of great options around

Oh that’s awesome! It was a great little trip. We were talking about your little solar panel once we passed you. How did you find the video? Was it recommended by KZbin?

That was the first day we actually tried mounting the solar panel - it worked surprisingly well! The video got posted to the BVRT Facebook group, not sure how they came across it though.

@@TriFitwithTimandAmanda I’ve been meaning to ask you too, how did you find the pace for covering each way in 2 days on mountain bikes? Did you run out of gearing at any stage trying to pick up the pace or anything like that?
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda3 жыл бұрын
We didn’t try to pick up the pace 🤣 We went at a leisurely pace and didn’t try to race it so our regular mountain bike gearing was fine.

Hi guys great ride, i’m thinking of doing this over the next couple of weeks I know this may sound very amateurish but basically how do you know where to go or there’s signs is there a map you can download. Many thanks
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda2 жыл бұрын
Hi Russell, we didn't use a map, just 'followed our nose'. There were 2 sections where we were caught out - right at the beginning near Wulkuruka, but that was only because there were road works near the start of the trail, we think this has been rectified. The other section was at Esk. The trail crosses over from one side of the road to the other. Esk is a very trail friendly town, so if you're unsure you could ask one of the locals. There are markers along the trail that count up (or down) so keep an eye out for those. Enjoy your ride!
@markbryan55534 жыл бұрын
Really good video guys. May I suggest if you do it again you should carry on from Yarraman and take the back road to Kingaroy and do the south Burnett rail trail .
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. We’ve got that map, I think it’s called the Link Trail. We’re definitely up for that.

Great video-diary of your trip. I did Lowood-Yarraman-Toogoolawah in early January over 2 days with just a small backpack, staying overnight at the Linville pub (90km 1st day, 118km 2nd day). It was just as hot and humid but a lot browner then. Only took a couple of photos that trip, but want to do the full trail over 3 days once it gets a bit cooler, and will try to video it this time.

Thanks so much for sharing this awesome ride! You don't appear to have overly wide tyres (from what I can see)? I have a Flat Bar Hybrid with Front suspension and 38mm tyres so would that be up to the job?

Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Our tyres are about 60mm but 38mm at low pressure should be fine.

How easy is it to follow the trail? I read someone's report once that they found certain sections tricky to follow and had to keep consulting maps.
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda3 жыл бұрын
The only part we found difficult was at Esk when you go through the main town. We came from the south and you come in on the left of the main road and head out on the right side. Once you’re on the trail, it’s pretty straightforward. We didn’t use any maps at all.

Hi. I plan on doing the ride one way, from Yarraman in one day. Going to use the down hill to my advantage. I've ridden the entire trail in bits and have done 100 km + rides out there on a MTB hardtail. I have done 160+km road cycling. The distance should be do able however I'm fifty but fitish. Do you think a gravel bike could do this ride ??
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda3 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. A gravel bike will be fine. Have a great ride and enjoy that downhill
@barryshields36484 жыл бұрын
Thanks for an amazing and highly informative video of your journey which cleared up some of our questions about the trail which we only found by accident on a recent road trip; quite clearly the mountain bike is the best optional vehicle. Oh yeah you were mad to do it in Summer.
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. We passed a couple of people on gravel bikes and they thought mountain bikes were best too. It’s a great ride and highly recommended.

You guys are absolutely awesome, it's so cool to see you enjoy fitness together as a couple!! I'm planning on doing the BVRT these holidays for the first time solo so it's great to see how you guys plan distancing for each day and hear you guys yarn a bit about it. I am planning on camping though, so I might be wishing I had a air con at some points😬. How did you guys find doing it in summer? I've only ever done it in the more manageable winter holidays!
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda4 жыл бұрын
Awww thanks so much. It’s great doing it with someone else but we’ve also had a few friends do it solo. It’s definitely hot in summer. We started each day early and stopped in each town and bought cold drinks. Take the time to cool down and rehydrate. The advantage in doing it in summer is you don’t need many clothes, so that’s less to carry. I believe it gets quite cool at night in winter. We’d love to hear how it goes for you

Awesome bike and drone footage guys, well done. We did our trip early Spring, there is no way you would get me there in Summer, with the heat and humidity, yuk! We had to carry a few more layers of clothing for the cold morning starts, but we could always stay comfortable. My fatbike really shined on those trails, and cleaned every creek crossing, never lost traction. Bet you are totally over opening and closing gates by now !
@TriFitwithTimandAmanda4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brett. There’s definitely pros and cons of each season. Amanda now has a new knobblier tyre on the front which should help with traction. Tim opened just about all the gates - so,yep, we are over them. Love the push button one though at the electric fence. Glad you enjoyed the vid 😊
