BRISTELL B23 | AIRFOILLABS Established Developer's First Aircraft for MSFS | Review & Test Flight

Airfoil Labs brings their first aircraft to Microsoft Flight Simulator, the sporty Bristell B23. Known for detail and quality, and an established Xplane developer, I was excited to see what this dev has brought to MSFS. We take this for a spin around Catalina Island and I explain why I was so disappointed with this release.

Excellent review Mark. It is a nice bird but is definitely not the AirfoilLabs quality we have come to expect. Good entry level addon into MSFS though. Love your content...keep em coming =)

The gear issue is present on the Xbox too! Think they left the programming into whichever model they used to base the plane on. Lazy testing prior to release really.

I purchased this aircraft because it was the closest plane i could find to the Van's RV-12 in which i am training on. It matches the specs to that one pretty close. I was very disappointed that the EIS is only on the MFD and as about as far as it can be away from the pilot. It would be nice to have the EIS on the PFD or to have that option. In VR, it's so far away that I can't read it way over there. In the Van's RV-12, It has the same screens but the EIS is on the left side of the PFD. So currently disappointed because I have to guess at the rpm and manifold press.

Thanks for this. I'd been considering the Bristell but I'll hold fire for now. The devs should take a look at the S4 and bring their offering up to a similar standard. The sounds on this seem better than the S4 though.

I wonder how accurate the flight model is. I have a friend who flies one of these and he told me it has a tendency to get into a spin during stall and failing to recover.

Great review as always, Mark. Still a nice aeroplane - in reality a development in many ways, of the Eurostar or Sportstar. Shame about rough edges and glitches😕🤔 With the fuel pump switched on at start up, is this aircraft supposed to be fitted with a 900 series Rotax? If it is, iirc, the fuel pump should only be on for Eg a count of three, or else, in some aircraft, it will cause issues with the exhaust pipe or headers - I e seen one blown apart on an Ikarus C42. I'm not sure how realistically damage or outcomes are modelled in MSFS 2020🤔🤔🤔

Yes according to the specs the engine is a Rotax 900 series.

@@SimHangerFS - In this model, it's a 912ULS. IRL they are available with both the 912ULS (100hp) and 915iS (141hp).

It's a light sport aircraft. Less than half the weight of a Cirrus SR22. And it has 2 seats not 4. And the engine power is 1/3 of that in the SR22. Apart from the fact it has wings, it's nothing like a Cirrus 😊

Hi Quick Question, At last got my flight simulator set up on the xbox x. Such fun.... But , how does one turn on and off the HUD display 🤔. Can see the aircraft from behind but the screen is empty of instruments. Whoops 🤭

in sim go to main options menu (ESC) then select Assistance Options....User Experience....scroll down until you see instruments heads up display. Select chase cam for external HUD.

This is a real lazy attempt to test the MSFS water. This is not the aircraft to do it with. The cockpit textures look like they have been lifted straight from XP11. They are flat, blurry and dreadful. If I was A2A I would be thoroughly dismayed at being compared to this lol. For the reason that A2A will not and would not release any aircraft this bad in any sim. Hence why we still haven't seen an A2A aircraft in MSFS.

Yes, I don’t believe this is an skd issue. Devs forgot to remove the gear option from the basic model build.
