Bristronica 2023: Kiviak Instruments - Wofi - SK1 Inspired

Sonic State caught up with Romaine from Kiviak Instruments at Machina Bristronica 2023 to discuss their exciting upcoming project, the Wofi, set to launch on Kickstarter this October 17th. The Wofi draws inspiration from the classic Casio SK1 and reimagines it as a modern sample-based synthesizer with a one-knob-per-function interface. It boasts built-in speakers, a rechargeable battery, and a built-in microphone for added convenience. This versatile instrument allows users to record samples, emulate vintage samplers, and sculpt their sound with an ADSR envelope, digital filter, texturer for granular effects, and assignable LFO. Wofi has Wi-Fi connectivity, connecting it to the cloud platform MyWofi, where users can sync and organize samples, share content, and even edit patches online.

I assume the device doesn't yet make sound, which makes it hard to take at face value any of the claims of it emulating the old samplers. Neat concept, though, and something I'll keep an eye on. :)
