Great reaction. "Hate?" was song 27 or the 33 song setlist for the evening. I flew to Japan to see this one live and as far as it being 3hrs and 40mins, but trust me, it was over before I knew it. On their "shorter" standard 2hr shows in the US, it felt like only 30 minutes. The energy and the entertainment value, is through the roof. You come out of the show drained as they lift you so high and then have post concert withdrawals. As the old saying goes..."Time flies when you're having fun." So, so true at a Band-Maid Okyu-ji. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 Shout out to Gary! Thanks for always pushing for the Maids! PO!🕊

This was a 3 1/2 concert but they gave you plenty of chance to breath with MC breaks, a couple of acoustic songs, Saiki alone on piano and a section of slower, calmer songs.

Best rock band on the planet, po! Notice that Kanami and Misa both kneel when the other is soloing? As soon as Kanami reaches Misa, she kneels. It's harder to see Misa, but she does it too! A sign of respect. Such a Japanese thing to do!🤘✌️

I've heard them do this one, live, with the same special duel in the middle. (Which doesn't appear in the studio track.) On a smaller stage than this one (in Minneapolis, in the US), but with all the same overwhelming force. They are an incredible live band.

Thanks for highlighting the Maids ❤ My infamous comment is that this is “my favorite performance of one of my least favorite Band Maid songs.” It’s a super jam for most, but I’m personally more interested in their melodic rock styles. This is their dense, chaotic stuff. You’ve heard “DICE” and “Freedom,” which are more accessible to my ears. Here are a few of my favorites for you to consider in the future: “Thrill” OMV “Choose Me,” OMV “Real Existence,” LIVE “the non-fiction days,” OMV “Moratorium,” LIVE “Daydreaming,” OMV Not coincidentally, these are all from earlier in their career, affectionately known as the “Tiny Hat Era” RIP Tiny Hat 🎩 😢

The way Akane remembers four hours of manic detail is (wait for it) she has a photographic memory and sees the written score in her mind's eye. If she changes a detail she will pencil in the change in her actual score and remember it from that. All the women work a bit like that which is how they remain so calm and tight (and can switch around the playlist) because basically they are a "Rock quintet" playing from a score in their heads like a classical group. Everything is different about these girls as a músical group and a bunch of friends. This is the most Japanese of bands deeply rooted in their fantastic musical education. Kanami only listened to Chopin until her mid teens and played piano. Akane played trombone until about the same time. MISA studied live mixing in her first year at uni and only then majored in electric bass.

Knowing the context of the song and the lyrics, go back and watch the bass and guitar battle and this time watch it as an argument. An argument between the guy(bass) and the girl(guitar). The bass starts the argument, the guitar answers back, the bass argues more, the guitar answers back again, the bass gets snarky and the guitar mocks the bass. They begin "yelling" at each other, aggressively playing at each other, but eventually the girl (guitar) has the last word and finishes the argument. And the singer with that final extra angry LALALALALA! (I can picture her stomping her foot down hard) is...*chefs kiss* the perfect ending to this song.

Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. Very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄) By the way, do you know there was a special concert by Band-Maid & The Warning on June 12 in Tokyo? I went to see it. What a bliss! It looked to me that Paulina and Akane literally and happily competed to see which drummer can break their bass drum first in the joint finale 🤣

Great reaction guys and the singer Saiki wrote the lyrics; there was a lot of cheating occurring during covid lock down reported in the press at that time and Saiki was pissed. The singer LISA (a friend of drummer Akane) was also affected by this as her husband was caught cheating and created a big scandal. Hope this helps Gary get off his lazy butt.

Hello Brit Pops 1&2, I thought I'd suggest a new artist to give a listen, if interested. "Leonard Cohen - Dance Me to the End of Love (Official Video) --This song by Leonard Cohen is from his album called "Various Positions" released in 1984. This haunting track, with its evocative instrumentals is reminiscent of traditional Klezmer music. And is often referred to as one of his popular tunes. Interestingly, although structured as a love song, it's inspiration lies in the holocaust, Cohen revealed that the song was influenced by the image of a string quartet playing classical music in the concentration camps while fellow prisoners were being killed. The lyrics poetically blend themes of love, surrender, and the consummation of life. And as always, I enjoyed hanging out and rocking with you two fellas. Thanks for sharing we appreciate you. (P.S. It's me guys I kind of changed my username)

Band-Maid actually (usually - because of course they'll ḍo something different just to mess with our minds occasionally) have a few "classic Band-Maid song structures." The more impressive thing is how by the second verse, one's thinking, "Wait, how did we get *here* from the intro and first verse!?!?" And then there's a bridge and some other stuff you never saw coming. And THEN they wrap the whole thing up in a tidy bow at the end - like their logo, literally the back of a maid outfit.

Japanese do not care so much for standard western structure with predefined patterns for chorus and bridges and stuff. Which is not so surprising. Partly because it is our thing but also because Japanese songs tends to be more complicated and thought out. More innovative if you so wish. But actually, I am an older guy and my main intake of music in my youth was the 1970-ies. Lots of stuff then just did not follow rules. You can take such a mainstream group as Beatles. They have written tons of innovative and fantastic songs that do not follow any rules at all. So, Mr left Britt dad, I do not give you high scores for giving lower scores for not following standard patterns. You get a 6.5! I think that not following patterns is a plus, if it is well done.
