Hi BP1 & 2! Enjoyed your reaction and thanks for the shout out. A bit of a surprise I’m sure. Tori has an assortment of short videos where she’s covered many artists of the 60-80’s primarily. A few originals that were given to her to sing. More is coming including her own song and Jim and Tori’s next Carpenters cover is Close To You. She just collaborated with Dan Wesley (a fellow Brit, I must add) and released a cover of the Perry Como classic, It’s Impossible. This past April Tori was one of 8 invited acts to perform at the a Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration. She was also the youngest at 20. It was quite an event lasting 4 days. I met Tori there and she and the others made for one exciting evening. On the last night she did get to finally meet in person the surprise guest of the entire event, Richard Carpenter. He wasn’t on the schedule but came on the last night and was interviewed by Chris May, his coauthor. That’s some background info for you and glad you enjoyed! Joe Edit: I neglected to mention. No one “expects” Tori or The Spanish Inquisition! Say no more, say no more! 😉

Thanks guys as always for your informative and genuine reaction to Tori. I discovered her three or four months ago and I think she has the most timeless voice the likes of which I have not heard for 50 years. She sounds so much like Karen, who would be proud. Tori was invited to perform at the Carpenters 55th anniversary tribute in the LA area the end of April. On the fourth day, unbeknownst to everyone, Richard Carpenter showed up and Tori had the honor of speaking with him backstage. Certainly a lifetime memory! You should hear the "Carpenters vs. Tori Holub" videos where they intertwine the Carpenter's original and Tori's cover, and unless you can see it on the screen, it's eerily hard to tell them apart.

Guys! You know, before Jim did this with Tori, Tori had done numerous covers of not just the Carpenters, but of many other artists, including Olivia Newton-John. What you can't tell from this is that she's got a tremendous ear and production chops. At her site is her demo of how the Carpenters overdubbed their voices; she sings each part into a multitrack deck them plays them back at the same time. On that video she laments her pro-level Pro Tools sequencing software is giving her problems that day, so she does the demo on a TASCAM mutltrack recording deck. She's not only a great singer, but she's brilliant too.

I wonder if Tori knows who she was in her past life? Karen is back in a special kind of way. She has given us Tori. I saw the Carpenters in 1976 and was right up front. Karen and i made eye contact and she winked at me. I will never forget that or her. RIP KAREN DEAR❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹❤🌹🙏😭

No doubt if Tori wanted to be a perfect Karen “impersonator” she could do it within 99% perfection. The range, tone, vibrato, warmth are all virtually identical to Karen’s, the only differences are in phrasing slight differences in “positioning” the voice and certain vowel sounds which she could easily change to match Karen’s perfectly. It’s very rare to have such a perfect match to another’s singing voice outside of siblings, even rarer when you consider Karen’s position as one of the greatest female voices of the 20th Century!👏👏

Tori Holub has a lovely voice, and backing vocals, instrumentals, audio and video are beautifully made. *_9.5_* seems right. It's good to hear vocals without Olympic gymnastics. My brother was a rock, prog, folk rock, folk fan, but he also liked the Carpenters. Richard Carpenter was a superb arranger. Tori pronounces a few words slightly differently, and has a good contralto range. Jim and Tori made a nice Burt Bacharach/Hal David Carpenters medley, but not as impressive. Best Wishes, Chaps. ☮

I think I had come back to watch 'The Boys' react to the Muse "Hysteria" cover again. BP2 was mesmerised, and BP1 had a big grin, so they looked quite sweet. Best Wishes. ☮

There are a lot of singing artists covering the Carpenters and many of them do a very good job, however Tori Holub is the closest as has been noted by a great many of her followers, including Joe and myself, and she should be able to make a name for herself in the future as she develops a wider repertoire including some original songs.

To the maker of this video i have a request. Here is my request: Could you please do a comparison video of who sang it best between Sydnie Christmas singing her cover version of Somewhere over the Rainbow during the finals of Britain’s Got Talent 2024 versus Loren Allred also singing her cover version of Somewhere over the Rainbow at the semifinal stage of the AGT: Fantasy League 2024.I would love for you to react to both performances in one video. In this video after listening to both performances one after the other i would love for you to share your opinion as to which of these two singers sang this song the best and why( Loren Allred or Sydnie Christmas).This should be a showstopper

For me: Tori 9.0 and Harriet 7.5. Harriet has a beautiful voice but just a bit too high to really emulate Karen's low notes like Tori can.

Wouldn't argue with that in the slightest, just think it's an odd comment to make about a 20 yr old individual who is clearly a devoted fan and using the beautiful gift she has to pay undeniable tribute to Karen and Richard. I would guarantee that she'd be the first to agree that there will never be another Karen. But it's certainly a worthwhile bar to reach for.
