CT on the bus is the abbreviation for Connecticut. My advice is to look for real estate sale signs. They sometimes list addresses for the agents on them. Also, the vehicles that do the mapping rarely go out after bad weather, so you will only very rarely see snow anywhere in geoguesser, even in the north. Major interstate highways in the US have even numbers if they are East/Wast, and odd if they are North/South. Further, major interstate highways start with low numbers in the West or South and higher numbers in the North and East. Great content!

But if I can't find enough clues on the street, I usually try to find my way to the freeway. There's usually something helpful there.

When it places you in the middle of nowhere it's a safe bet to follow the power-lines to find the middle of the city or town. They get thicker the closer you get. The medium/ large blue or green signs can also be a goldmine of information. The names of parks and schools can also sometimes be useful. There are also a few states that only have a rear license plate (but that only eliminates a few) It helps to know some of the cities and abbreviations for them. Some random US Geoguesser clues: Traffic lights hanging on wires and not just on poles/arms (like in the first one here) are a good clue it's in new England (they really like them up there). Mountains, especially big ones, are going to eliminate quite a few as well. Bare or snow-capped peaks are going to be the Rockies or the Sierra Nevada (california)/cascades (Washington/Oregon). Or you got unlucky and are in Alaska. Palm trees and mountains is pretty much going to be Socal. Jungle and mountains is going to he Hawaii. Palm trees with no mountains is probably the south-east. Signs referring to Parish or have a lot of french names are probably in Louisiana. Texas is famous for their access roads along interstates (and texas flags!). If you have ever seen them they tend to stick out after that. North/South interstates have odd numbers and the numbers go down from east to west starting from I95 on the east coast and ending in I5 on the west coast. "H" interstates = Hawaii. Even numbers run east/west and start low in the south (I10) and get higher as you go north (I90). State highways often have the state shape or name on them. Front license plates or lack of them can narrow down the state but you have to kind of know which states use them and which don't. Snow route signs put you in areas that get snow regularly. Hurricane evacuation signs put you along the Atlantic/gulf coastal states.

OK I'm trying the first one... 3:54 - There's a succulent in the ground with tall flowers. You were talking about looking for regional plants. Succulents don't survive hard frost. So NOT the Dakotas, Wisconsin, etc... Would need to be a Southern State. There are a lot of deciduous trees without leaves so NOT THAT southern. Not Arizona as there's a lot of grass and not that many succulents or cacti in the yards. I'm surprised you didn't try to look at the license plates. Not Nevada as we all have desert landscaping and the houses aren't stucco. NOT California because there are not enough vine type plants everywhere and they don't really get a winter so the grass would stay green and vinetype plants would still be green and there'd be a few winter flowers showing up. I'm would say Northern Texas/Oklahoma but I saw mountains in the distance and technically those are flat country states. Maybe New Mexico? No garages, only carports... That's weird. 6:00 - WTF??? Southern Colorado??? That's a 303 area code phone number... Well, I GUESS Colorado is just above New Mexico so... Yep. Colorado it is!!! That explains all the pine trees and HUGE cottonwood trees. I'm sure Lav wouldn't have a clue about phone number area codes and the differences between garages and carports and how some places have stucco and others have vinyl siding and others have brick and others have rock. Yeppers. We BOTH were right.

The schools, shopping centers,, and factories might have state flags. Also, unless the game blocks the plates on cars. They will all have the state. Also highway and interstate roads will normally run east and west if the number is an even number and odd numbered roads will run north and south.
@TheNascarfan9993 жыл бұрын
There are so many little details that you can learn for the US, but one that is very easy and effective is to learn the Interstate and US Highway numbering sequences. So many places are going to be close to either a US or Interstate highway and once you know the numbering sequence, you can get a decent idea of where you are in the country. In both cases, 2 digit highways that are even will run east-west generally while 2 digit highways that are odd will run north-south. For Interstate highways (Blue shield with a red stripe across the top and white numbers), the lowest odd numbers are in the west and the lowest even numbers are in the south with the numbers increasing the further north and east you go. For US Highways (White shield with black numbers like the one you saw in the Fargo location), the opposite applies and thus the lowest odd numbers are in the east and the lowest even numbers are in the north. Once you know that, when you see a highway sign for US Highway 81 like you did in the last video, you can know right away that this is for a highway that runs north-south and one that will be relatively far west (because the lowest numbers are further east). Once you are familiar with and comfortable with this knowledge, the biggest thing you want to do with most locations is try to find large roads/highways in order to find a US Highway or an Interstate Highway. Another little tip with moving around, in my experience the fastest way to move around is to make sure you are not zoomed in at all when you move. If you are zoomed in, it seems to move a shorter distance each time.
@TheDoctorsDancer3 жыл бұрын
Don't worry about how long it takes you. I did one of these and it took me almost an hour and a half. For navigation in the game, it moves smoother when you are zoomed all the way out. Also, clicking the arrows will always be more precise and may be faster than just clicking where you want to go, though that can 'jump' you closer and across to the other side of streets.

I've never heard of this game, but I'll have to try it. On the second one, I knew what the capitol building in Hartford looks like, and the archway, so I had that one immediately with the brief flash of these two landmarks in the first couple of seconds. For the first one, all of these things start to give away the location: Style of houses, whether houses have basements, winter photo but still some green (not too cold), lack of historic/older buildings, mountains in background, volume of Mexican business, car/truck ratio. My guess was somewhere between Albuquerque and Denver. Great Job, Thurston!

A lot of the signs had phone numbers. An Area code will get you, at minimum. a state and could even get you a portion of a city if the city is large enough. You could also reference the realtor or business name to find an exact city. As for the numbered exits, they represent how many miles since the start of that road. So Exit 136 is 136 miles along the road. Many states put their seal on state route roads. Across the 48 contiguous states all Interstates are consistently numbered. Odd numbers start on the West coast heading East and even numbers start at the Northern border heading south.

Oh man. i got the very first one right off the bat. The clues for me are (1) the street sign (71st-80th etc.)--meaning it is in a big enough area that there to have streets/avenues named those numbers that high and it's still dense enough to have full neighborhoods and busy streets, (2) the mountains on the horizon, (3) there are no leaves on the trees--meaning it has seasons and not in the warmer-climate areas, (4) giant elm and pine trees everywhere--kind of a calling card of the front-range of the rockies, as they grow so well in that climate, (5) lots of Mexican food places. So we're left with asking this question: What city is big enough have that many streets, has that clear of a sky and is that bright on a clear day, is up against the mountains, and is close enough to the southern border to have many Mexican food places (meaning it has a high population of Latinos from Mexico)? Let's go with the largest city in the Rocky Mountain region: Denver! To narrow down to a part or suburb of Denver, you'd actually would probably need to know that numbered streets in the Denver metro area go east/west (if you're in Denver, the mountains are to the west) and the numbers increase from 1st street in the core of the city north into the northern suburbs up into the 140s and 150s. The mountains north of town are a little less prominent than those like in Lakewood for instance. Unless you were able to see a city name on a building or bus or cop car or something like that, it would be tough. Of course, Tennyson street gave it away for me because, well, I live in the area (though I've never had a reason to go to 80th and Tennyson), and fortunately in the Denver metro, they've mostly kept the name of the streets continuous throughout the region, and Tennyson is a main street that is very familiar to people in the area. So yeah, everything looked familiar to me, and I was sure when it first came up that it was somewhere in the Rockies, and then all the other clues narrowed it down for me, so maybe my analysis was hindered by being familiar with how places look, but hopefully my inductive reasoning will help you in the future nonetheless.

to be fair, I never would've thought a neighborhood in north dakota would have those kinds of trees. I thought it was a south eastern state at first and louisiana crossed my mind too. the more developed part of town definitely looked like north/midwest tho. that one was very odd. impressive run tho!

Blue and Red route markers are Interstate highway markers. White route markers are US highway markers. You need to zoom in further to see US highway markers. These markers are somewhat random (I.e. for the most part, you won’t find like a I-95 marker near a I-96 marker)
