You dont realize how massive these eagles are until you see one close up. Definitely suggest going somewhere you can see one in person.

Very true. Have seen them flying, and up in branches plenty in northern Wisconsin. But one day, while driving, saw one standing on the side of the road like 10 feet from me. Was shocked at how massive it was. I mean, just so much more robust, thicker than you'd expect. Best word I can think of is, it just seemed brawny.

@danielhoehne801 Exactly, I see why they weigh about 40 lbs, it's just that big of a damn bird lol That's awesome tho I know there's a ton of them up there too. I live about 2 miles or so from the Mississippi River and see them year round.

Roosevelt had a mid Atlantic accent. Not many folks still have that accent but it was common among rich folks and early movie actors.

its also a way people talked on recordings back then because speaking regularly was harder to hear clearly over radio so they put on a kind of stage accent to be more intelligible.

I was born just 3 months after Franklin Roosevelt, who had the same accent, died and I grew up in Maryland (definitely "Mid-Atlantic") and I never heard anyone except film clips of FDR and his cousin/wife Eleanor with this accent so I don't think it can really be called "mid-Atlantic". The closest other than the Roosevelts may have been Katherine Hepburn who was from Connecticut. As I posted before reading this, I've always heard it referred to as a "Hudson Valley" accent and that makes more sense to me (Connecticut isn't that far). Though my family and most people I knew were comfortably middle class, I did know some "rich folks" from Maryland's "horse country" and also from the Eastern Shore (the spit of land encompassing Delaware and part of Maryland on the east side of Chesapeake Bay) and they didn't speak this way either.

Hey Luka, big fan of your vids and have been for a long time. I work at an animal rehabilitation center. We usually get animals like horses, small eagles, small falcons, racoons, possums, skunks, anything that needs help pretty much. So, one day 13-14 years ago we got 2 small bald eagles. We help them grow and live with minimal human contact (in our giant bird aviary, its prob 5 miles long both ways so 25 miles total if your calculating its area) , released them a year and half later, the female is doing very very very well. So, I’m happy and I’m glad you did a vid on my fav bird

I used to watch a duo of eagles on a 24/7 web cam in Decorah Iowa. It was fascinating. The nest was damaged in a storm a few years ago, but they are back now. It's fun to watch the momma lay her eggs, then sit of them for weeks, even when she is covered with snow. The papa brings her food and sometimes sits on the eggs to give her a break. Once they hatch they stay in the nest for about 6 weeks and the cycle starts again to rebuild the nest.

I have seen a bald eagle in the wild in Northern Minnesota and Southern Louisiana. They love the Louisiana swamps and Minnesota is the land of 10,000 lakes. The coolest thing about them is they mate for life. When they have eggs or juveniles one will sit on them while the other one hunts. Then they will trade off.

I live in a city that’s near several lakes and mountains. We have a very large park in the north part of town, and on a couple of occasions, we’ve had bald eagles build their nests there. We also have a lot of red tailed hawks in the area.

My sister and her husband used to have a house on a lake. It was cool sitting in the dining area off the kitchen watching one or two of them take fish from the lake. Fish are their primary food preference but, they will take smaller birds and ground animals like, rabbits too. Another really cool bird to watch fishing is the osprey. Eagles will only take fish near the surface of the water so they don;'t have to go into the water. Ospreys hover over fish until they spot one they want then, they dive, feet first, into the water to get it. They can go to a depth of nearly a meter. The really cool part is when they emerge from the water and take flight.

Roosevelt was from a wealthy family. They probably adopted the Mid-Atlantic accent, which was invented to distinguish the wealthy from the common folk. It was also adopted by Hollywood so that actors would have a universal accent that didn't reflect any particular region of the States. That's why all the old stars sounded half British/half American, i.e. Mid-Atlantic.

I live just 40 miles north of Chicago. We have the occasional bald eagle here. They are truly majestic. In the winter you, well we, can drive over to the Mississippi River, about 3.5 hours away and observe lots of bald eagles. Really cool. But there are also bald eagles that hang out here as well along the Fox River and the many lakes here in Lake County, Illinois.

The bald eagle was adopted as the national symbol of the United States (in terms of heraldry, it's the supporter of the national arms) as the native version of the eagle of Republican Rome. Benjamin Franklin didn't think the bald eagle was good enough---he thought of them as little more than scavengers---and instead proposed the turkey, as being truly a native symbol of America. Mind, he was talking about the wild turkey, not the domestically-raised version.

First, I lived in Indianapolis for 45 years and have been to the Eagle's Nest restaurant many times. It's a high dollar rotating restaurant on top of one of the tallest buildings in the city. Very cool place to have dinner at night. Now I live in southwest Florida, and there are really tall poles all along the interstate. They were installed so that Bald Eagles could use them to build their nests at the top. Almost every pole has a huge nest on the top. I'm 6'1", and I could easily lay down in one of these nests. You can see eagles all the time around any of the barrier islands off the coast. They seem to eat a lot of iguanas down here. Probably just an easy meal for them, and the iguanas are invasive, so it's a win/win.

Bald Eagles are opportunists, so they’ll both hunt and also scavenge. It’s one of the reasons why their numbers were able to recover so well, compared to other eagles like the Golden Eagle, whom will only eat prey they have hunted. I see Bald Eagles a lot near lakes around breeding season (live in the SW). Though when it comes to soaring majestically, I think very few can beat the California Condor. Absolutely ugly birds, but their flight is so smooth and beautiful.

Theodore Roosevelt and the entire Roosevelt family (including cousin Franklin) had an aristocratic Hudson Valley accent because, well, they were a wealthy, aristocratic family who lived in the Hudson Valley north of New York City (Hyde Park, NY in fact). I've often wondered if this accent still exists. Franklin Roosevelt is really the last full-blown example of this I've heard.

Many American actors were taught to speak back in the 30’s/40’s with a British Accent. It was mainly the upperclass. It was called a mid-Atlantic accent.I guess they thought it sounded more dignified. It was somewhat a British and American accent.I don’t know why or how they did it. If you ever watch an old black and white movie from that time you will hear the actors speak with a that accent.

@@Kim-427I've watched countless movies from the 1930s and '40s. Many of the better actors in early talkies started their careers in theater. I think they hired diction coaches for actors making the transition from silent films. The UK did have a film industry back then, but many British actors chose to work in Hollywood (more money?)

Bald eagles will hunt anything its eye catches, they are strong enough and big enough to carry away animals that equal their own body size, like rabbits and such. They eat mostly fish but also water fowl and small mammals. We have many here in southwest florida and when you see one standing on the ground you will be surprised by how big they really are. I had one take a nice bass i was trying to catch one day, the fish would hit the lure but wouldnt take it. It did that for a couple casts until finally out of no where the flash of the huge wings came and boom, just like that the fish was gone. I was so mad i quit fishing for the day, i had been after that fish for quite sometime from my dock and thought that was gonna be the day.

There are two popular eagle nest cams in Florida. The growth of the birds from hatchlings to fledglings is astonishing. There is a baby in the nest at SW Florida Eagle Cam, and I believe there are eggs at NE Florida eagle cam. There is always a lot of drama, and last year was hard on the parents. It can be upsetting at times. There are Eagle cams in Minnesota and California and Washington, D.C., to name a few.

No, because they are a native species, their population isn’t a problem. Remember, he said that before Europeans arrived, there were around 500k in the USA. They are a key part of the ecosystem, and having their numbers be where they are now is actually beneficial to other species.

Alaska was the Bald Eagle's last holdout for survival. At one point, they were considered a nuisance and were hunted almost to extinction. Alaska still hosts more Bald Eagles than people, but since it's now protected, their numbers are slowly growing again. Different states' Department of Natural Resources often tracks down their nests and set up live webcams so the public can watch a breeding pair raise their young. I live in rural Minnesota, and especially in winter, we can sometimes see them on the roadside feasting on a deer that's been hit by a truck. And I say truck, because most of the people here drive pickups or SUVs. Roosevelt was from New York, but his accent was oddly more prevalent in the Mid-Atlantic (Maryland down to parts of North Carolina), and in the early 1900s, a lot of people purposely adopted a similar accent - if you watch any movies from that era, a lot of the actors sound similar, but they were trained to speak like that because it sounded more "posh."
