Right? I was definitely taught about the Barbary pirates, as well as our wars against the Natives, the Trail of Tears, etc... These people went to some shitty schools.

Never heard of the Barbary wars till I watched the orginal video when it first came out. Either I some how missed it or we just didn't cover it.

The Barbary Wars were really interesting and wish Americans knew more about it. It was one of the most important wars in US history and modern naval history.

Did someone forget the whiskey rebellion. It wasn’t a war per se just a minor military action that caused a slight ruckus. Basically a bunch of farmers got mad over a slightly higher tax on corn. This just happened as George Washington was seated as the first president. Basically the farmers were going to riot in the north east about the tax and were about to get together to do so. Washington heard about this and ask a company of soldiers to simply march from one fort to another in front of the farmers. The plan worked and the farmers gave up immediately with no resistance. They simply returned to their usual routine. The corn was being used for whisky making hence the name whiskey rebellion.

Most don't know that the first US vs Korea War was in the 1870s ... we lost that one too.

The War of 1812 is never talked about. It was basically the Second American Revolutionary War. Nobody won and the Natives lost.

Florida got its statehood in 1845 right in the middle of the Seminole Indian wars. In 1843 the city of Orlando was created but as the tiny town of Jernigan which changed names to Orlando in 1857 in honor of fallen soldier Orlando Reeves although records don’t have an Orlando reeves anywhere on any roster. The other theory is it came from a Shakespeare play which the city has several different streets named after but that is a bust too. So we really don’t have any clue where the name Orlando actually comes from. All I know is Orlando’s history is a long and complex one with fires, settlements, fights with racism, Disney, and major law trials. It’s crazy that it still survives yet surprises many.

I really object to way the narrator always refers to the Barbary pirates as Muslims. We got it the first time. He doesn't refer to the Europeans or Americans as Christians even once.
