Alcohol doesn't change who you are. Alcohol lowers your inhibitions. So if you behave badly when drunk but are fine when sober, it means that you are actually that poor person but are so inhibited when sober that you don't show it. Sensible people with sensible attitudes who have had a good upbringing don't behave completely out of character, no matter how drunk they are. They may misbehave slightly or do something embarrassing that they wouldn't otherwise do, they may make a bad decision, but it never ends in a complete breakdown.
