We have a HUGE problem with carjacking in Chicago, now. I've never heard of bait cars, but with all the armed criminals, they must be dangerous for the police. A lot of the carjackers seem to be young kids, some too young to drive legally (as if that mattered to them). Sometimes they steal the cars with kids inside. They're absolutely fearless, and totally amoral.

8:08 It is a felony in the US. Most of these seem to be in Canada but I'm sure it is about the same. There are bait cars in the US but they don't hit them hard if they don't have anything prior. If they have other convictions & stolen a few cars before, they probably hit them really hard. That is generally why they set up bait cars & if there is a spike of stolen cars in certain areas. 9:59 I don't think this is the same couple. I think it is the same car.

Just multiple young couples, or groups... similar accents and they are wearing similar baggy clothes. The last clip identified that as a BC (British Columbia) film - so likely all filmed in and around Vancouver BC. "Integrated Municipal Provincial Auto Crime Team - BC's Auto Crime Police"... so, clearly, they have an issue and a plan for dealing with it.

Wasn't in a bait car, but yesterday in my home state of Alabama, a 13 year old boy took the fuzz on quite the chase, apparently hitting speeds as high as 100mph (and potentially even more) before the eventual and surely sudden stop provided by some well placed spike strips. Not sure whose car he chose to take on his joyride, but talk about a ballsy teenager.

The best part of these is them trying to think of a good story to tell the cops on why they took the car. But they don't know everything including their conversation is being recorded. And usually how they are able to escape is thet theyt usually leave one of the doors open so the police can't lock them in.

In smaller towns in the 90s, people could just go into a store, leaving their car running or their keys up on the dashboard and nothing would happen. Because of the guy who jumped out and ran from the moving vehicle, they had to make sure the doors would lock, trapping them inside. No, these are different clips. That's why there were cuts between and it didn't say they were all the same people. People have gone to McDonalds before in a stolen vehicle. A lady who worked at a McDonalds had her red 4Runner stolen and low and behold, her red 4Runner was in the drive-thru.

As far as how long they will be in jail/prison, it depends on their criminal record. But if you watch the show Bait Car that use to air in the states on TruTV, the cops would add some valuable stuff inside the car so they could bump up the charges to where they will stay years in prison instead of a few months.

I woke up at 3am in the morning to like 5 cops on my block lights going. Some dude had stolen an SUV probably from the apartments down the road, and in a chase with the cops, had decided to "park" it into my neighbors bushes almost smashing into his house. What the idiot didn't realize is we have a gated breezeway at the end of our cul de sac and if you happen to hop the fence, which you can't unless you're like super tall or have a ladder, and run in thinking you're going to get away, not only do the gates lock both inside and out, but he trapped himself because it's gated for like a solid mile. I always wondered if it was a bait car or if the guy had just stolen it and gotten really unlucky.
