This fixture is potentially one of the best in MLS. Both cities claim to be the "spiritual home" of soccer in the United States. Sporting KC is one of the league's original clubs, and Kansas City has hosted the national team many times. Saint Louis's history with the game dates back over a hundred years. Italian and German immigrants brought the game there in the early 20th century. The American 1930 team (finished 3rd in WC) and the 1950 team (defeated England in an upset so dramatic, London bookies refused to take bets on it), were largely composed of Sunday league players from Saint Louis.

@@TheCrazyCloon I agree with you. But claims are often a matter of perspective, aren't they? Kansas City's claim is not based in root origin history, but rather in MLS history and in the recent history of its connection to men's and women's international matches. My personal history with the sport predates MLS. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. From where I sit, Saint Louis has always been the game's home in America.

The first recorded soccer match to take place in St. Louis was during 1872. In 1907, the St. Louis Soccer League was one of two professional leagues in the U.S. When the North American Soccer League began play in 1968, one of the charter teams was the St. Louis Stars. I saw the Stars play against the New York Cosmos with Pele at Busch Stadium II in 1977. The Stars won 2-0, which was made up almost entirely of St. Louis players. The team moved to Anaheim after the 1977 season. The NASL operated 1968-1984. St. Louis City SC currently is in 3rd place in the Western Conference with a record of 7-1-4 for 22 points, 3 points behind conference leader Los Angeles FC.

As a fan of MLS in general but supporter of Charlotte FC, St. Louis City has one of the best atmospheres in the league. It’s in the top five with Portland, LAFC, Charlotte and Nashville in my opinion.

I should check out Nashville since it's now the closest to me, but I will have a hard time forgiving them for low attendance during that competition that kept our boys from going to the Olympics a few cycles back when Caleb Porter was coaching.

You previously commented on Roman Bürki, and his skill. You were saying how you wanted him on your team. My thought when I head you were, "NO YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM!!! HE'S OURS!!!" FYI..Klauss is still out injured. As far as atmosphere goes even in the sections outside the "Supporters" section that is setup as standing only, a lot of the other sections stand almost the whole match! Bürki got my vote for Man of the Match, overall fan vote went to Indiana Vassilev. Bürki is Swiss.

the STL City goalkeeper, Roman Burki, is a Switzerland international and has played for their national team before. He was also a multi-year starter at Dortment in the bundesliga and turned down a contract from Byron Munich to come to St. Louis City and be one of their first ever signings as a team. He came over hear many months before the team even got on the field due to his excitement and played in our third division with the St. Louis B team last year to stay in form until St. Louis City SC got on the field in MLS.

Blom (#6 for STLCSC) is amazing. He's just getting back from COVID followed by a groin pull. His work rate is off the charts. I would hate to see him leave but I wouldn't be surprised to see some European teams coming for him. Love watching that guy. We knew we had something when we first signed him because suddenly our social media was full of South Africans singing his praise and now I see why. As far as us landing Burki, that was the steal of the year. To be able to land someone of that quality for the salary we're paying him was awesome. He couldn't stayed in Europe and made more money, but he wanted to play and be a part of building something.

This week MLS was streaming their MLS 360 coverage for free, which they don’t always do, and I think that livestream is still available to rewatch. They probably used that as an excuse to take their time with the highlights. MLS 360 is a panel of football analysts/commentators that jump around from game to game. Or they’ll put 4 games on the screen at once. They are basically trying to cover all the games at the same time.

This battle for the pride of the state of Missouri is gonna be must see tv every time now. What St. Louis City have done is incredible. If they look like they are playing like they always were, it’s cause they have nothing to lose. They were picked to finish 27th in. League of 29 teams this season in their inaugural campaign. If they win MLS cup it’d be probably close to 2015 Leicester City stuff.

Klauss was off of the list of confirmed players out for the SKC match. I expected him to get some time in the 2nd half of the match. I'd expect some time for him this week especially since Vancouver won a big game against Seattle and we need our best out.
