The list is missing most of Finnish rock, metal, rap etc. (including 1970s and 80s punk and new wave), and even the songs that are from actual rock bands are the most benign glittery radio friendly pop songs they have. Not really the picture i have of the Finnish music - i guess lists like this are very personal, and this was gathered by someone who likes soft pop more than i do ;-)

He also threw over two metres over the current world record in 1942 during training while serving in the military, he was then in the best shape of his career but... you know.

Finland is full of bands, and every one of them experiences the full evolution of the sound and style a band goes through. What is popular at any point of time is a toss of the dice, something so far obscure can have a breakout hit etc. There are few bands who have a consistent and high following and they are truly cherished here.

This features mostly the radio friendly stuff which does not mean that metal, hard rock, rap, punk would not be played on radio. If you pick e.g Wigwam - Freddie Are You Ready, Jukka Tolonen - Windermere Avenue, Ernos - Myyty Mies, Maarit - Jäätelökesä, Eppu Normaali - Radio, Broadcast - Heartbeat Paradise, Raptori - Oi Beibi, the hearing experience might be bit different.

Would the compilation contain only the most played songs of each year? Already in the 50s, there was rock in Finnish, but that list didn't include Finnish rock from the 50s, although the most famous performers are only from the 70s and 80s. If there had been more than one song per year in that list, there would certainly have been representation of several different genres of music for quite a few years.

Funny little anecdote about Eino Grön (1963 example). This summer during Juhannus (Midsummer celebration) I went with my brother and his wife to a traditional style Juhannus dance concert and guess who was there the artist? That is right, Eino Grön himself! He even chatted with us a few words as he was entering the stage. Really down to earth kind of guy!

Give me any genre and I can probably find a Finnish radio hit that "most" Finns know. Now that you mention it "pop-music" might be a little bit different here than elsewhere, maybe. Song of almost any genre can become famous and a radio hit, maybe in general we just like good, well-made music. And I think we might have a fixation to lyrical hooks, maybe because our language is quite expressive by default.

For a better one, do a video on the finnish eurovision songs along the years. That one is FAR better than this one, even though its not that good it still gives a better idea on finnish music than this. Much of finland is heavy metal, metal, rock, heavy rock and similar styles but almost all of us who love those dont listen to only finnish songs. We have the most heavy metal bands per capita BY FAR, its not even close. There are so many heavy metal bands in finland and so many fans of it that if more than onr band releases an album the whole top chart of music in finland changed for a month with only the new songs, there is nothing that comes close to it❤

At least I have a very diverse music taste. And many who I know from Finland has also quite diverse taste of music, going by feeling and day by day what goes... Looking my Spotify app.... Some of the latest used playlist ; - Soft 90s (Currently from that playlist; Wind Of Change) - Sabaton - NKB - The Songs Of The Distant Earth (Mike Oldfield) - Sunrise Avenue - Bring Back The Time (New Kids On The Block) - Solid Base - Aqua - Dj Bobo (Also there can be found; Meat loaf, Eagles, Nickelback...) ...yes, I was teenager around early 90's in Finland, that might explain some of the choices. 🥸 The compilation video seems to pick songs that had most radio time on that specific year. And it is just a scratch from what really was going on in music on those years. For example 2006 there was a phenomenon called Lordi... ;)

Yeah, u missed Eppu Normaali being still a hit after an decade (actually they still make music I guess, also they were part of our punk/rockwave) and u missed most of our 90's techno wave. Neljä Baritonia singer is known for many projects, and most of the bands (like PMMP there, that wasn't even their first hit, check Rusketusraidat (translates for tanning lines straight to english :D) have split up and Vesala is one of the members of PMMP. Also Apulanta started on 1991 and sold out our Olympic stadium in Helsinki 2 or was it 3 nights in a row just few years ago, still going strong (members changed a lot in some positions tho). I was born 1989 too, I dislike that Kims song too :D Also Jonna singing "Minttu sekä Ville" was later known as Jonna Tervomaa with few hits in early 00's :D Katri Helena has or just going to retire. Also u missed my favorite; glam rock phase w Hanoi Rocks (relations to Mötley Crüe bc Vince Neil drived the car where HR member Razzle was killed.), Negative, also HIM and most of our metal scene like Apocalyptica,Nightwish, Him, Stratovarious aaand also we won Eurovision with Lordi....

Thank you for this entertaining reaction video. I think how Finnish music seems so diverse - well firstly, I guess it is. It's interesting to notice this, and I haven't really thought about it before. But I just wanted to point out, that there will be different undercurrents. And not everyone at the same time will like what's most popular. And that there will be many different kinds of genres (not shown here) that are popular each given year, to different people. Anyway, you seem like a good guy.👌 All the best!😊 PS.
