You're correct: Bob Bradley was the manager of the U.S. men's national team at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He coached at the NCAA (college) level with Princeton, making the semifinals in 1993. Bradley later went on to coach Egypt from 2011-13. He wasn't able to lead them to the World Cup, but got them into the final round of qualifiers in CAF. I was in the stands for this game. It was a particularly hot day and I remember not being able to sit in my normal seats in the North End because the stadium was super-packed. It took me 15 minutes to get into the stadium and LAFC scored their first goal by the time I got in. I haven't experienced a crowd like that in a while. It was like a Cup Final but with a great percentage of people that automatically hate you for no reason at all. Because--surprise, surprise--at the heart of the LAFC fandom is a dark heart full or hate, hypocrisy, and betrayal. They all deserve each other. But, yeah, at the end of the match, I felt physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. What a great match.

Bro, you keep rollin' out the hits. I watched this game live, and I used to live in LA. I was back in Connecticut by the time this game happened, but I watched it live. Zlatan landed late on a Thursday night in LA. He had 2 light training sessions on Friday. Saturday was the game. It was LAFC's first year in the league. The game is at LA Galaxy's stadium. LA Galaxy went down early and badly. By the 70th minute, everyone was calling for Zlatan... the whole stadium. He goes in right around 70 minutes... and then made MLS history. I had NEVER seen a crowd go bat-shit like that on TV. Maybe when Rooney had the last second long pass assist to win at home for DC United... but that wasn't as big. This is already considered pretty much by everyone as the best goal of all time in MLS.

I don't think soccer will displace basketball any time soon. It might overtake baseball, though. Much as I love the Padres and MLB baseball, the audience for that sport is admittedly much older. Baseball fans are aging, and there aren't as many new fans coming in to replace them. The NBA and MLS both seem to have much younger fanbases, so they'll both continue to grow for the foreseeable future.

Around 20 years ago, I read a comment by a British football commentator (don't remember who) who said that world football was praying that America would accept & adopt the game as its own, but also feared that happening because it probably meant America would come to dominate the sport as it has so many other international sports. With the team that just defeated Mexico in the final of the CONCACAF Nations League, we may be on the cusp of that happening. And what better timing with the 2026 World Cup coming to North America and the final to be played in the United States.

Some known MLS Rivalries: California Classico = San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy (The original long standing California rivalry. Northern Cal vs Southern Cal. It's a rivalry in every US sport. LA dodgers vs SF Giants, Rams vs 49ers, etc) SuperClassico = LA Galaxy vs Chivas USA (the original LA derby. Chivas folded due mismangement & misconduct reborn as LAFC) El Traffico= LA Galaxy vs. LAFC (name is a reference to the horrible LA traffic. New but really it's the exact same fanbases as the superclassico. LAFC is just reborn as a much better LA brand than Chivas USA could be.) Cascadia Cup = Seattle Sounders vs. Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Portland Timbers (I think named for the Cascadia mountain range that is near the teams. Don't know how it works but i'm guessing who ever wins the most gets to hold the trophy for a year.) There are other rivalries but honestly I don't pay that much attention to them. Sidenote: in the US certain cities have historical rivalries. Like San Francisco vs Los Angeles, New York vs Boston, New York Vs Philadelphia, Washington DC vs Dallas. Atlanta vs New Orleans, Chicago vs St. Louis. So if a new team pops up in one of these towns they will automatically have a rival. And if you're a New York or LA team everybody will hate you anyways. lol.

I mean, here in Kansas City, we played soccer & basketball (as well as football & baseball) in school, but not hockey, & for the most part, we just don't care about NHL. We haven't had an NBA team in 40 years, but NBA is still followed here, because basketball is still played - competitively - at the local colleges, but there's no hockey in sight.

@JKTritt3 жыл бұрын
@@kabirconsiders - hard to tell on ratings, NBA and NHL have more games per season and more nationally televised games. MLS is mostly regionally televised with a handful of nationally shown matches. If you support an MLS team, but live outside their television market, you’re blacked out. With the new broadcast deal, New England Revolution fans in Connecticut and western Massachusetts can no longer see the games on TV. So, they contracted themselves into fewer viewers. As for revenue, I’d bet that MLS is lagging far behind. For reasons listed above the rights deals are probably cheaper, plus all the other big leagues have international airing rights deals that MLS isn’t in the running for yet. I doubt that SkySports would be willing to air MLS matches in England, except as a rare novelty. The same applies to anywhere in Europe, and those would be the target markets for the big money.

I can't wait for the day that LA Galaxy is gonna be back on top of the league They hold the record for most MLS Cup with 5 and the last they won it was in 2014 and after that they just felt off even though a few times they landed in the playoffs but couldn't quite just make it to the championship. That is just like saying Real Madrid suddenly fell off the map after winning multiple UEFA Champions League.
