I am a 77 year old woman . I had a new 1969 Mustang fastback. It had a 302 motor and I paid $2800 for it brand new off the lot. It had a lap seat belt and all my coworkers asked “why would I need a seatbelt, was I going to race it?”. I had it for 20 years and sold it to my brother.

In 1989, I was 18 and my boyfriend drove a Grand National. That car was so bad ass. People would pull up next to us and rev their engines, wanting to race, and talk smack about how fast their cars were. Mitch had a custom license plate frame that read THE BULLSHIT STOPS WHEN THE GREEN LIGHT POPS. Such great memories!

5:04 my brother and I were at a DQ (fast food chain restaurant) near NASA here in Houston and we saw an elderly couple in a Shelby mustang just like the blue one in this video. We approached them and talked to them for a while about the car, long story short they let us take pictures in the car. They were so lovely but didn't say how much it was. They only said it was a pretty penny.

For graduation my mother gave me a 1973 Dodge Challenger. When I stepped on the gas, the front end would lift up. Years later, in 1993, a man pulled up next to me at a stop light and said he'd give me 5 grand on the spot. I also got whistles at the car. After 25 years, it rusted out so bad, I gave it to my ex-husband during our divorce.

I fully rebuilt a 77 Charger for my mom. It was a condition to get my license...not the specific car, just the rebuilding of any car. It was so my parents knew that I wouldn't ever get stuck on the road without the ability to help myself. I finished it in 1994, got my license in 1997 and she ran it into the ground. She finally sold it in 2008 for $14k to someone else that wanted a gorgeous project car...with over 600k miles on the "original" engine. I put it in quotes because with everything I had to fix, it was nearly new once I was done 😂😂😂 Good Times 😂😂😂

My father worked for Chrysler and drove company provided luxury cars. He tired of the land yachts and asked HQ to send him something's with some "Guts!" Being heavy into SCCA Trans-Am racing, they sent him an AAR CUDA' which had not been factory prepped for street use. This car was a goddamn weapon, barley drivable on the street. Sadly, while being held overnight for servicing, someone broke into the lot and stripped that monster down to nothing. but was quickly replaced by a Charger R/T 440...best times ever. I was 10 at the time and was turned into a muscle'Head' by my father. Cornet 500 383, 66' Barracuda, 65 GTO, 69' Barracuda 340 Formula S... About 10 years later I found a 1969 442 and am currently in the process of restoring it. Platinum body, black hood stripes, black vinyl top & interior, 400ci 4 bbl & Muncie 4 speed. It's all original, picked it up for $8k, by the time it's done I'll have between $40-50k into it. I had a 1979 Dark Blue Trans AM with Camel Tan interior. It had a Crap 406 Oldsmobile engine which I promptly got rid of. I replaced it with a Pontiac 455 big block. Balanced and blue printed. Edelbrock intake and a Holley 1100.. Cragar SS mags. 50" wide on the rear and and Blaupunkt stereo. We would pull the hood and add a supercharger and go racing. I grew up in North Charleston SC..that's the part of town where you would roll up the windows and slide down in the seat as you quickly drove through. It was also the Motorhead part of town.. You could see everything from a Yanko Camero to a Superbird. Mustangs, GTOs, Corvettes and Hemi-Cudas.. All lined up at Roberts Drive in or the McDonald's parking lot... The first time I went out racing in a friend's car it took us an hour and a half to get turned into the McDonald's parking lot on Rivers Ave.. There were over 150 cars of all types just looking to go race. We had 2 kinds of races. 1/4 mile of course And 1/2 mile racing top ends on a long looping curve. You start at 50mph and race top ends.. Challengers had the incoming lane.. Top speed... 187mph 1/4 mile 12.4 (heavy car) Dangerous? ABSOLUTELY Fun? Indescribable. Rick Charleston SC

Rear wheel drive cars are better balanced weightwise. This makes them handle better and makes them more rugged. The disadvantage to rear wheel drive cars is that they don't have good fuel efficiency. Back before the 1970's though, gas in the US was really cheap.

Kabir, you're pretty much on point when describing the American "muscle car" (and, yes, the term was/is an American thing). The cars themselves weren't necessarily luxurious or designed to hug curves on a racetrack like a Porsche, but rather they were largely designed for straight-line speed with HUUUGE horsepower numbers under the hood, along with an intimidating, muscular presence (hence the name). LOTS of cool classic rides, to be sure, and I'm guessing one of these cars riding down a main street in London would create quite a scene lol.

Hi Kabir! I grew up in the muscle car era. I mean the period of 1966 to 1975 or so. Most of them weren't the exotic examples shown here. The Plymouth Roadrunner and GTX, the Pontiac GTO, the Dodge Challenger and Charger, Buick 442, Chevy Camaro and SS 396 and even the Cadillac Eldorado, and I almost left out the Firebird. These cars weren't really hi tech, it was more about raw power and mind numbing acceleration, and less about handling, at least on the streets. I had a '66 GTO with a 389 two speed automatic transmission. If you took off and held the pedal to the floor, it didn't shift into second gear until you hit 80+ mph, at which point you had to be careful because the rear wheels could break loose. The Hemi Roadrunner was a killer machine, especially the '69. Although it really wasn't considered a muscle car, my parents bought a '69 Oldsmobile 88 four door. It looked like an ordinary family car, but it had a 455 cubic inch engine and the speedometer was calibrated up to 145 mph. I just had to see if it would really go that fast, so one afternoon I took it out on the freeway, put my foot to the floor and got a little past 135mph before I had to back off. It was still pulling strong but I could no longer feel the road, it felt like it wanted to float around, so I backed off. I had a lot of fun, and I lived through it, in fact I never had an accident.

Many of these cars are a piece of cake to restore as there are companies that make just about any part you would ever need for a restoration. As a matter of fact you can now build a new vintage Mustang or a 1957 Chevrolet as a complete new chassis and body are available as well as complete interiors. Yes, Kabir classic car restoration is very easy in the US, especially if you choose a model that was very popular when new because then it makes sense for companies to produce parts for it today.

There's others you should check out. The 2019 + Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. 650 HP 650 torque it's freaking fast sounds amazing. The Corvette C7 ZR1 with 755 hp 755 torque. It has a chip in it the allows you to go only to 214 mph. If it wasn't governed it would go much faster. The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Zo6 is a super car. 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. It has a 5.5 liter flat plain crank , naturally aspirated engine, with a 8 speed dual clutch transmission. 670 hp mid engine design like European design. It competes with Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porche. It's 3.6 inches wider than the Stingray version of the C8. The Z06 sounds like a Ferrari. It's also governed to about 190 mph. Plus you can add features and basically design it how ever you want. If you go for the LT3 Z07 package you're loaded up with carbon fiber inside and out. I could be here describing everything or you can look up the video reviews of all these cars. It's better for the experts to tell you than me to write it. The C8 also comes in right hand drive.

The movie Blade, he drove a 1968 Dodge Charger. Muscle cars weren't so much made for top speed as they were mostly for the 1/4 mile track. The main difference between a muscle car and a super car is the aerodynamics and the gearing. you could have 2 cars with the same horsepower and torque, have low gearing in one, and high gearing in the other, the low gearing will get up to speed faster, the higher gearing will make a higher top speed. Both are exhilarating in their own right, but personally I would prefer the muscle car.

The biggest advantage in a front wheel drive car is the lower cost for the manufacturer, which of course can be passed on to the consumer. As far as handling a front wheel drive vehicle is just swapping oversteer for understeer. Oversteer (rear wheel drive vehicles) is easier to correct for since when it occurs you tend not to also lose steering as with a front wheel drive vehicle. On smaller, lighter cars front wheel drive can increase traction since that is a function of friction and weight. On small economy cars the weight of the engine above the wheels that are powered can be beneficial. That small advantage becomes less of a factor as the vehicle weight increases.

With special tires and a spoiler that puts over a thousand pounds of d I wnward force the car grips the road and corners very well making it great on high speed turns. It's scary fast and the last Viper made, the best of the series. You can still get a mew 2024 Mustang with a 480 hp engine for about $50,000.

In a nutshell Kabir, a "muscle car" (in America) is a car that not only talks the talk and walks the walk, but it makes sure it looks "killer" while doing it. Plain and simple.😉My personal favorite was the 1968-70 Plymouth GTX with a 440ci engine 6-pack carburetor, automatic 3-speed slapstick B&M racing transmission, add G60 tires in the rear w/deep-dish Crager mag wheels, chrome sidepipes and baby blue color with a black hardtop. My HS buddy had this very car. Second choice would've been the AMC/AMX. Yeah, I'm particular. They left out so many iconic cars: Chevy Corvetter, Chevelle SS, Camaro SS, AMC/Javelin, etc..

Basically the AC Cobra was considered a Ford since it had a Ford 427 engine but was not sold by Ford, it was sold by Carrol Shelby out of California. You can tell if you have an original by the VIN number saying CSX for 'Carrol Shelby Experimental'. But since your a Brit you should know that the bodies were originally made in England and imported by Shelby. YES, it's a British car. Look it up.

A muscle car tends to be a HUGE engine US car, with all the power to the rear wheels. They drink gas like nothing else; which is the reason why they're just not a thing in the UK. Take a look at the average MPG on a muscle car. It's HELLA expensive to run. Muscle cars were kinda "of an era" too. Technology got faster and faster and faster by the end of the 60's, then as the 70's happened, safety came into the mix, so newer models of cars were a little slower. Remember that this era had no seatbelts. They're so much fun to drive in games like Gran Turismo and Forza. A bigger point, about the Fast & Furious movies. They have a general national rivalry. They have the US muscle cars, which are all physical, heavy, solid and fast in a straight line, and the Japanese cars, which are much lighter, CPU aided, with sensors EVERYWHERE, constantly giving you the optimal setup. These are vulnerable to EMS attack (an electromagnetic shock that overloads their car's CPU. This is the very peak of racing car technology, versus the old school brute force BEAST of a car. If you haven't already, check out a documentary on the Group B Rally from the early to mid 80's. It gave us the Audi Quattro, among others. It was a few years where the innovation of 4WD suddenly gave the cars MUCH more traction, making them FAR faster than spectators expected. Spectators standing ON THE TRACK, with a big ass rally car THUNDERING towards them. Watch it from the drivers perspective. It's insane. It's no wonder it didn't last long.
