If you visit Knott's Berry Farm, you should try something with boysenberries: jam or pie, or some other dessert. After all, it was a berry farm before it was an amusement park, and was the first place where boysenberries were grown commercially. The berries are delicious, but fragile and perishable, so they don't show up in stores very often. All the more reason to try them when you visit. If I can add a destination: Point Lobos State Natural Reserve near Carmel-by-the-Sea in California. Australian-born landscape artist Francis McComas called it the greatest meeting of land and water in the world."

Here’s the ones I’ve been to: I love Knotts. I used to go there a lot in high school, especially Knotts Scary Farm. They have some great rides and jam. It’s also so close to the beach, Wax Museum and Medieval Times. Oregon coast is beautiful. Heck just driving up 101 from LA to Seattle is a great trip! So beautiful and a lot of cool stuff to see and do. *Did you know the Statue of Liberty is actually in New Jersey? Joshua Tree is great for hiking! It’s so beautiful and the sunsets are gorgeous. I don’t suggest going in the middle of the summer. Went to the Petrified Forrest as a kid and it was pretty cool, but it got boring pretty quickly. We spent about an hour or so there, walking around and taking pictures. White Sands is absolutely breathtaking. You feel like you’re in another world, on another planet. I loved it there. Devils tower is a must see in person. Pictures and videos don’t do it justice. It is a really cool place. We did a lot of road trips as a vacation when I was a kid lol

3-4 days in NYC would be enough to hit some (not even all) of the main tourist traps. But if you really want to get into the best of the city, stay a little longer, ride the subway, and really explore the boroughs. Maybe start at a common place (since you are in a strange city), then explore from there. For instance, take the train to the Bronx zoo, and while you're out there ask a local what's good to eat in the area. There are many awesome restaurants, night spots, museums, shows, etc. that won't be in the hotel visitors guide. Tour the Apollo theater in Harlem, then go across the street to the black hair museum, then while you're in Harlem eat at Amy Ruth's or get some Jamaican beef patties from Golden Krust. Go to Chinatown and haggle with a street vendor. Those things make the difference between visiting NYC and experiencing it. You'll have more organic encounters with real New Yorkers and not just other tourists, and you'll go home with much better stories.

Visitors are not allowed to remove anything (flowers, rocks, etc.) from any national or state park in the U.S. It could result in a fine or arrest. That also includes defacing anything as well. At Hawaii’s Volcanoes National Park, even hitting an endangered Hawaiian bird called a nene because of driving over the speed limit can result in a jail term. They have very strict laws within the park system there. Another great park that doesn’t get many visitors is Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. It has rivers, buffalo, wild horses and beautiful green valleys and nice rolling hills. Really worth a stop especially since Roosevelt was behind the creation of Yellowstone as the first National Park in the U.S. He loved nature and single-handedly was the force behind preserving the incredible nature found in the U.S.

@PerthTowne
@PerthTowne 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what you're interested in. New York has many more museums than those that are wonderful. But New York also has art and music and theater. It has incredible food. It's a great walking city, and a lot of the neighborhoods are really interesting to walk through. There are the parks, the historic sites. Go to a baseball game or basketball game. So no, you can't see New York City in four days, but just pick a few things you want to see, and just do that. As terrific as New York City is, if I only had three or four weeks to spend in the US, I wouldn't spend a week in New York City. And if I had already been to NYC, as Kabir has, I wouldn't spend any time there. I'd go see something new.

When I lived in California, Knott's was my preferred theme park. It was closer to where I lived than Disneyland, it's cheaper, and in my opinion has better rides. Besides the roller coasters, several of the rides and Knotts are also living history exhibits. The Ghost Town and Calico Railroad, which gives you a tour around the park is part history, part live theater. the locomotives and rolling stock are from the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad (and its subsidiaries) and are over a century old. Part way through the ride, a couple of park employees dress like bandits come though the train, pretending to rob it. The Timber Moutain Log Ride is considered to be the original Log Flume ride, while the nearby Calico Mine Ride is pulled by what are known as 'Donkey' engines, small electric locomotives that are used to pull trains inside of mines.

When I was a kid, Knott's was a fun off the tourist track place to go with an old school American Chicken restaurant. I was there about 3 years ago and they had a massive Ford meet there, about 1000 Mustangs showed up! Oregon Coast is really interesting, it feels coastal on one side of the highway and mountain pines on the other. New York City is NOT a long visit, 3 or 4 days tops! Joshua Tree has become a hipster place, lots of Air BnBs and crazy boutique hotels if you don't want to camp. South Dakota isn't the most picturesque, but the Black Hills area is beautiful! Lots of gypsum crystals there as well.

It is illegal to remove wood and artifacts from the petrified forest, but there are a few legal places to purchase small pieces. But the real fun thing that has grown around it is a curse of the Petrified Forest where ppl that stole pieces of the petrified wood would then be seemingly cursed with bad luck. Over decades the park receives packages containing the pieces of stolen wood, sometimes accompanied by letters apologizing for the theft and detailing the misfortune following it.

It's not just the petrified wood. It's illegal to take anything from National and State parks. There is a shipwreck in a National park that was carrying copper ingots. It's illegal to remove them as well. It's the same with some of the rare plant life as well.

I visited NYC for five days in 2016. I got a fairly good look at Manhattan by picking certain neighborhoods to explore each day, I didn't specifically go to any tourist destinations besides MoMa and Central Park. Fondest day was wandering lower Manhattan and just stumbling across things like the Statue of Liberty and Brooklyn bridge by accident. Also loved upper Manhattan, specifically Morningside Park and the area around it. Got stuck in a blizzard and extended stay by 2 days, train tracks were inaccessible so I took a local Queens bus into Manhattan and went to the Met (don't miss the Met can't believe I almost did). Coming back to the airport I took the subway to Kew Gardens and absolutely fell in love with Kew Gardens. Would love to revisit NYC and just spent time in Queens and the Bronx. Wish I could just move there.

I would recommend tossing it in the back of your mind that if you can work the timing right when you come to the states, to try and check out one of the state fairs. Some states have larger fairs then others. Along with several other states Minnesota has a large state fair. Here in Mn its around 10 days long at the end of August and is referred to as 'The Great Mn Get Together.' You can do the fair in a half a day or an entire day depending on how much you want to see, do and try. Nearly all the food is fried and much of it is on a stick and 'loved' by many. State Fairs can be a big todo that afford you the opportunity to meet people from all that state. Many people attend them religiously every year because they enjoy them so much. If you manage it, bring a good pair of walking shoes and shorts that stretch as there will be a lot of different foods you'll want to try!

Knotts is close to me. They just started the Boysenberry festival (Walter Knott created the first boysenberries and name it for his friend Rudolph Boysen, so it’s definitely a thing at Knotts). The park started out as an entertaining waiting area for patrons of Cordelia Knott’s tea room/chicken restaurant, it all started with the “Ghost Town” area, which is probably one of the best zones during Scary Farm! Cedar Fair owns it now so if you were doing a US tour you might want to consider how many Cedar Fair parks you would be visiting because a pass that includes all of them might work for you.

And compared to Disneyland and California Adventure admission wise, Knott's is probably still cheaper to get into both the coaster 🎢 park and Hurricane Harbor water park . Medieval Times is right down the street from Knott's. Lassen Volcanic National Park in northeastern California is lesser known than Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Redwood National Parks but the scenery surrounded by the eastern Sierra Nevadas is just beautiful , well from what I've seen on the National Park Service's website. I'm sure it's just as beautiful in person. If you come to California for any length of time, schedule a tour at one of the 21 California mission churches. They wee established across the state in the 18th century by Spanish friars(priests) and stretch from San Diego ( Missions San Diego San Luis de Rey de Francia, named for one the King Louis of France) and to just north of San Francisco in San Rafael and Solidad . They're actually two outside of L.A , Mission San Fernando and San Gabriel. The Mission district in. San Francisco is called such due to two missions being there, Mission San Francisco di Assisi( St. Francis of Assisi which was damaged during the 1989 Alta Loma earthquake. And Mission Delores). All of the Missions are on the state's and nations lists of historic places. Fourth grade students have to learn about the Missions since they are part of state elementary school curriculum.

NYC can take a long time if you hit the museums and whatnot. Also, the Oregon coast is severely underrated as a place to visit. It’s a great drive with small towns, great beaches, cool weather in the summer, great seafood, huge sand dunes, tide pools, gorges, and exotic carnivorous plant life. It’s laid back and under appreciated at times especially compared to California beaches which are admittedly warmer.

Big Bend in Texas is quite beautiful, I hear. I've never been there, but I've seen lots of stuff about it. My favorite tourist spot is Lexington, KY. Keeneland Racecourse, the breeding farms, Kentucky Horse Park-- the racing geek in me can't get enough of the place. Then it's Saratoga Springs, NY--the track, the National Museum of Racing & Hall of Fame (I had to be dragged out), the Revolutionary War monuments (Benedict Arnold's leg is worth noting) and the city itself are all marvellous.

If you ever do make it to the Oregon coast, I would recommend holing up for a day or two in Newport. Besides the typical coastal tourist attractions, it is a working fishing town with a busy commercial bay. Plus the Oregon Coast Aquarium - fantastic - and the Hatfield Marine Science Laboratory, a government facility for exploring the Pacific. Take the guided bay tour to get filled in on the history of the area.

You can get bits of petrified wood, you just can't take it from inside the Petrified Forest National Park boundaries. The park only covers a small portion of the area. The park probably does not get more visitors because it is in a semi-remote area, about an hour east of Flagstaff AZ on the I-40.

If you take in the Oregon coast you should probably do the Washington coast as well for contrast and you also get to drive in a actual rain forest (over 200+ inches a year) and see some of the biggest trees like Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir.

I've wanted to go to Knotts Berry Farm ever since I first learned about it. In addition to rides they're known for their food, like fried chicken and of course berry pie! Unfortunately for me, living on the east coast my whole life, Knotts Berry Farm and most of the places mentioned in this video, are all very, very far away.

A very interesting place to visit, is Itasca State Park in Minnesota. The tall pines are awe inspiring themselves, buy also Itasca, not only known as the coldest spot in the USA (go in Summer😉) but you with also find the start of the Mississippi River. A small trickle of water that you can wade through, makes it hard to imagine that you are standing in this mighty river!

Knott's Berry Farm has a lot of balls calling itself America's first theme park, as it was founded in 1920. At least half a dozen theme parks from Ohio to Connecticut that were founded in the 19th Century. Lake Compounce Connecticut is the oldest running founded in 1848. Then there's Coney Island, Cedar Point, Dorney Park, Idlewild Park, and up to Kennywood Park in 1899. And that's just off the top of my head.

Devil’s Tower is right between Mt. Rushmore and Yellowstone. You could easily see all of them in 3-4 days. You could squeeze in the badlands and Deadwood, South Dakota, to boot. When you pass through Cody, Wyoming, check out the Buffalo Bill museum. I was up there a couple years ago and it blew my mind.

If you love the white sands, I'd also recommend some less-popular beaches in the Florida panhandle (especially Destin and Pensacola Beach). The sand there is from the same gypsum crystal, but also by the ocean. Also, I'd put Glacier National Park in Montana on the list for sure! In my opinion, the most stunning views in the 48 contiguous states.

You can’t take the petrified wood from the park but there’s a lot of petrified wood across the United States. Alaska has some beautiful glaciers across the state and they are amazing. Just driving through Alaska you can see bears and moose.

Ever thought about the Kansas City Metro area? Kansas side offers amazing Mexican food or so south to Overland Park Leawood area for posh areas. Jead west in KS and see the Konza prairie and the Flint Hills. The Missouri side has great restaurants, amusement parks, museums and so much to do! Oh and the Saturday River Market in the morning. And its only 5 hr drive to St Louis where you can find the Arch and City Museum MO also has Branson if you want that experience. 😆 Can't wait to see where you end up in the US

White Sands is really cool - been there myself. One thing to be aware of is that the park occasionally shuts down due to activities at the nearby Holloman Air Force Base (it's adjacent to the White Sands Missile Range; in fact, the Trinity test site - the first nuclear bomb test in 1945 - is about 60 miles away). The park website will usually have information about any scheduled closures two weeks in advance, though they occasionally get less notice than that.

There has been a plan to expand Manhattan because there isn't any more space left to build anything. the plan proposal would fill in all the way into governors' island and completely surround it making part of Manhattan. now its just concepts but governors island would be no more if it goes through.

Perish the thought! I was privileged to go to work at Governor's Island for a week back in the 90's when I was government contractor. You couldn't just go there as a tourist. Just the Coast Guard and their families were there, or others who worked there for specific services to the CG.

I have seen most of these, and been around the lower 48 quite a bit. I still think you should consider on one of your trips to the states, to fly into Denver, Colorado, and work your way west driving through the Rockies, deserts, and to the west coast and California. I can meet you here in Colorado and get you situated and set-up. We’ll give you a great breakfast, and point you west. Having family all over the US, we can make sure you are taken care of throughout your journey. We can even accompany you as well for parts of the trip (in our own vehicles even). I drive from here southwest of Denver to LA in about 17 hours with the kids. That is hauling a$$, and trying to make it in one day to the family there. But there are tons of beautiful places to see or camp along the way. See billions of stars, etc. it’s all good. One old rugger to a younger one. Offer is open for anytime. Peace be with you!

Three to four days in New York would allow you to scratch the surface. You will need to prioritize what you would want to see or do. A trip to the zoo or certain museums could take most of day. Would you want to catch a sporting event? How many places would you want to try the food? The one thing I can guarantee if you come here for a very short stay you will want to return it for a longer time

Just saw this and found one of the destinations is really close to where I / my family lives. White Sands National Monument is an awesome place to visit, but it gets very hot being a desert and all. Lol. That said, due to the water table being at the surface level, the best time to visit is after a rainstorm when it pools water in between the sand dunes to look like the ocean. If you pass through, be sure to stop by a Caliches ice cream shop!!

White Sands is very white. If you go there bring very good sunglasses or the glare of the sand will give you a headache on a sunny day.
