She definitely does. In other words. This is not an average life of a New Yorker. Most people have roommates because it’s too expensive. Or live in basement apartments. This girl either has a very good job or parents who pay for it. This gives a very wrong impression of NY. NY is a struggle. It could be the job but she said she worked as a consultant and now a content creator. Management consultants make under 100K at start and over 100k with experience. Not enough to afford an apartment with a rooftop (it will cost around 5k, unless it’s a community apartment then around 3k in Brooklyn). Then she said she is a content creator now. I call that overpaid BS creators. You can make money from ads that way and pretty good money but you need a decent following. In my opinion it looks like she gets a lot of help from her family and /or significant who has a much better job.

@@tiffanymichaels2429True. It really is like a really large collection of small neighborhoods. If you're within your neighborhood, you're bound to frequently run into your neighbors, lol. 😅 Actually, it's partially because of the way NYC is mostly structured where you can usually find anything you need within each "neighborhood" so you tend to stay in it most of the time. 🤷🏻♀️ I've actually lived in the Bronx my whole life though. 😆 It's honestly about equally as bad as the rest of NYC. Crime rates just depend on which area of the borough you're in. Doesn't matter which one you're in. The topper is steel and glass. It’s fricking expensive to dig anything in New York City not to mention the work it takes to create a tunnel for the subway. It’s the work unions there as you have to pay the Sandhogs who build the tunnels, the port authority who approve the land, and transportation officials. The oculus was not supposed to happen as the land was earmarked for something else until this project fell into their lap and it got built.

Paying the phenomenal prices for a tiny apartment, watching the same old building slowly fall apart, constantly hearing sirens, ambulances, and loud "music" from neighbors you have never talked to, whether it is night or day, is just amazing. Once you learn to filter out all the people and noise you are living the dream. Just you and the pigeons. I feel sorry for those people that live outside the city where they pay the same price or less for a large house and land that they can call their own in peaceful quiet and cinematic scenery with green trees and bustling nature. Sure it takes them 5 minutes to get to the stores in the same amount of time your taxi takes to get 2 blocks with the knowledge that you still have 30 minutes to get there 8 blocks away, but that is because the city is where the action is and everyone lives here and the streets are always packed with honking cars. Sure they have deer and all matter of birds and other animals, but we have animals too. We have squirrels and pigeons everywhere, that's about all the nature I need. Very few places in the city allows pets, but who needs the smell anyway? A lot of people in the City do not even have cars, you just use the taxi's to get around, or walk. And for those that only work in the city, cars won't necessarily get you to work on time because of the constant traffic. For instance people living in Long Island that work in New York City simply pay the fare and ride the train system into the City, for two hours. Of course , you obviously have another 2 hour ride back home every night, but that beats the three hour traffic jam every day.. I love the city. There is always action. You can walk down the street and see a couple muggings, some tires being stolen off a parked car, maybe a stabbing or two. The last time I watched some old lady getting her purse stolen from her shoulder and she actually looked at me like "Why aren't you helping me?". Obviously she has not lived here long enough. I just could not imagine living in the country where everyone knows everything about their neighbors and are dumb enough to get suckered into helping them do something. They don't realize that people will just expect it again at another time. I can only see it as a unnecessary burden like having to mow your green lawn all the time. Then, you have to fill that big old house with more furniture, larger beds, and wall hangings than you could ever need or would fit in a city dwelling. Yeah, some country folk have swimming pools in their back yard with their patio BBQ and lawn chairs, but we have city pools and a BBQ restaurant a few blocks away we can walk to. Imagine having to clean those? No thanks, I stay safe here with my brown and gray cement sidewalks and buildings, oh, and my pigeons. (Watch your step). >> Obvious satire.

This is absolutely not true. I live in NYC, and yes. Housing is expensive but in terms of things to do, everything is priced on a scale so that people in every income bracket can afford amazing experiences. And the city does free or very inexpensive things all the time to entice locals and tourists alike. One of my favorite things to do is to take out-of-towners around, and we do it without breaking the budget. For example if you want I ❤ NY type souvenirs, go to Chinatown. See the Statue of Liberty? Take the Staten Island ferry - it’s free. And so on. While cost of living here has gone up (as it has everywhere else) and we have the same gripes like everybody, how do you think regular Joe people make out otherwise? We’re not all millionaires. I’ve traveled to cities in Europe and agree that some are super affordable (others less so), and I’d put those on par with NYC in terms of pricing. I would say it’s cheaper for an East Coaster to travel to Europe than it is the West Coast. Went to CA for the first time 2 years ago and had complete sticker shock. We do it up big for both holidays. Also, walking around in the chilly weather is perfect. I hope you come visit us soon!

Many cities have fire escapes (the metal stairs outside) and our place in Boston had one and once we locked ourselves out and we had a friend, who was limber, hop up onto it and go into our bedroom window ,which we knew we had left unlocked, thank goodness. haha.

Well I guess you could call it a stairwell, But it's one that you do not want to have to use. These are known in the US as fire escapes. If the building has a fire you use these stairs to get out of the building, They're usually right outside your window so you pull the window up go out and run down the stairs to get away from the fire burning in the building.😎

Stairs you see outside building is fire escape. Many TV and movie scenes filmed on them.

New York is magical the weeks before Christmas. See a musical and a play on Broadway! I’ve also been there many times in the summer. I am excited for you!

@L3WG every major city has them. They are called emergency fire escapes. In case of building fire and not being able to access the main stairs.

That beautiful winter cityscape of NY covered in a pristine blanket of white snow? Likely lasts for a few hours until it's mostly grey slop. Timing is everything.

The outside stairs are a fire escape. So you can avoid the fire to get away from a fire to safety

11:46 "Is It Only News York That Does This Stairwell On The Outside Of The Buildings Or Other Places As Well?" Well, Lewis, those exterior stairwells are actually fire escapes and there's numerous buildings across the US that have these as they're required by law

The best time of the year in NYC is fall. September can still be pretty hot but October and into November are my favorites. Take it from someone who has 20+ winters here.

Every city that I have been to has fire escapes on the outside of buildings built before the fire codes required indoor stairwells to be fire rated. Any building over three stories that has been grandfathered in is required to have a fire escape. As new buildings replace old ones you will see them less and less.

Lewis, I can TOTALLY see you in New York at Christmas! You would have a great time. ❤

The stairs on the outside are fire escape stairs/ladder. The bottom ladder is on springs and pull up out of reach.

If you go to New York in the winter, you have to see FAO Schwartz, department store. Or, the Rockettes.

Those "outside staircases" are fire escapes. They're there so people can climb out their windows & grt down to the ground in case of fire.

Having family that lived for 40 years in a loft apartment in Tribeca, in obviously great jobs; their routine was more of waking up early, one biked to work and one took the subway, work work work, gym, work at home, then time for anything more fun/cultural much later on. They also cooked most meals. It's just normal life in a very busy place, but where you might have an accidentally magic moment. :)

The stairwells outside the buildings, are fire escapes. The last floor does not have stairs from outside. The last flight of stairs, is spring loaded and only works if you come from above it. This keeps unwanted visitors from climbing up it.

Also, NYC can be overwhelming in size and feel rather like running around a beehive (depending on area and time of day). The good news is it's actually pretty easy to navigate because everything is numbered and if lost, you only have to go to the end of the block to see which direction you're going! Walking NYC is a great way to get extra steps in lol

When I was young I worked in Downtown New Orleans. I saw the same people every day , day in and day out, because we had the same schedules. No matter how big the city people do have routines.

I think the 4 billion is for the whole mall. Between the sines is window, it's probably also made with steel. And it looked like it was probably 5 stories high (but only 2 or 3 for stores.)

Those are fire escapes on the front side of the apartment buildings and some buildings have them on the backside too , i remember as a kid me and my friends would climb outside of our window to go on them and just sit there joke around while listening to music from our boombox , growing up i seen people that would bring out their grills and bbq some food on them and just chill with friends on a hot summer day
@George-bv3dx5 ай бұрын
Fire escapes are primarily in the rear in old law tenements. Generally if there's 2 apts per floor. Front fire escapes in old law tenements indicates 4 apts per floor. If you are operating at a building with front fire escapes and there's none in the rear you have to make that radio transmission. It may mean the roof fireman might have to make a roof rope rescue.

The 4 billion dollar building is a mall and goes very deep below ground and you can get the subway there too.

I would just avoid going to NYC in the hot summer. It gets about 5-10 degrees F warmer than the forecast states on those jam packed streets with all of the traffic and congestion. You should do a walking tour if you go!

ActionKid has some good walking videos of NYC at Christmas time. The live streams are long but the regular videos are not. He shows a good overview of the city during the holidays.
