St Paul is the capital of MN. Minneapolis & St Paul combined is called the Twin Cities. It's a good combination because Minneapolis is the "most eastern city of the west coast" while St Paul is the "most western city of the east coast." Minneapolis has a more modern, event feel while St Paul has a more historical vibe. The coast line thing is because MN has a ridiculous number of lakes. Along with Somali food, the Twin Cities has a high Ukrainian and Hmong population, so we have a good variety of food from their cultures, too. Pockets of Guatemalans, too. It's actually quite impressive how many cultures are represented in the Twin Cities, but that's partly because a few refugee non-profits are headquartered in MN. Also, fun fact: University of Minnesota bred the honeycrisp apple. They have a huge agriculture dept.

I live in Minnesota. Originally from California. This is a very nice place to live if you like nature, art, architecture, and good food. We have the largest fresh water lake in the world, Lake Superior, and over 10,000 lakes this is why we have the most coast along water. If you counted salt water than that would be zero coast line, but fresh water we have the most for certain. Any direction you wander you will run into a lake. It is very green here. Yet we have the harshest winters in America out of all 50 states. We get to -40 degrees F not including wind chill. This is a reason for the sky ways etc. But we have a very efficient snow removal system due to the fact as well. We have the Mall of America, largest mall in America with a theme park and other things. This is worth the visit but if you don't like the cold come in the Fall it's gorgeous here and visit Duluth along with the 2 cities, each have their own flavor. St Paul is about 10 minutes East of Minneapolis and has a beautiful cathedral and tge Capitol building. Stillwater along the St Croix river is a great city to visit as well along with the ILakes of the Isle and Uptown and Lake Nokomis. Also going to a Twins game, baseball, and a Vikings game, American Football, as both have new beautifully built stadiums.

FYI, Minne means water, so many places are named starting with Minne; Minneahaha, Minnetonka, .... Dispite the popular opion that a coastline is between an ocean and land, coastline is defined as any shore between a body of water and land, this includes lakes, rivers, oceans, etc. So with well over 15,000 lakes, two major rivers and an abundance of smaller rivers, creeks, ponds, we have a lot of coastline. And moved back to from where they came some weathered out that first winter or maybe it was like last winter and relatively mild , and then felt the brilliant rebirth and renewal that is spring however short it may be and then the sweltering heat and humidity of summer and by the autumn thought well that was something but it was as bad as some would have me believe only to say to hell with this place once the dead cold of winter set back in .

Minnesotan here - born, raised and still a proud resident. Have been watching your channel for over a year. Thanks for checking out this video on Minneapolis. I live about 10 minutes west of Minneapolis and have spent a good amount of time there over the years. Minnesota and the Twin Cities have a lot to offer, but are not as popular or widely discussed as say, Chicago for example. We have a good range of culture, agriculture and if you like the outdoors...adventure. We have other popular metropolitan cities as well. A couple of examples would be Duluth to the north, and Rochester to the south. Our landscape changes depending on where in the state you are as well. Yes, it can get really cold in the winter months, but the truly intense cold typically only lasts about two weeks sometime between mid December to mid January. The majority of us just hibernate inside with books, tv and movies during that time. If you are not a fan of cold, or used to it, that would not be an ideal time to visit. However, that cold also keeps a lot of creepy crawling critters (snakes, spiders, bugs, etc.) Out of our area. We still have some, yes, but not near the quantity or variety that the south or even middle part of the country have. It's a standing joke that by the middle of winter, we all wonder why we live here, but very few of us actually leave because we love Minnesota. Ironically most who do leave, are older Minnesotans who we call Snow Birds. They move south for the winter months, and return in Spring. So many of those who leave come back again. The largest population of the Twin Cities live in the suburbs surrounding Minneapolis and St. Paul. We have a pretty great state with a variety of things to do and see. I would recommend checking out more videos on Minnesota!

I love this video as a person from Minneapolis. I love watching people visit my city for the first time. Minnesota has a lot of coastline because we’re a state with many, many lakes (well over 10,000).

I live about 15 minutes from Minneapolis. Prince used to perform his music 🎶 inside of 1st Avenue in his early days. The last time I was there was when I saw Liz Fare back in the early 2000s.

The city is now known as " Murder-Apolis". The skywalks are necessary for the insane negative temperatures. Now you don't have to walk outside! Minnesota has a ton to offer and there are a lot of items that I love but there are a ton of items that are awful. We have a great state but you have to know what you need to know and know what you should avoid.

Murder statistics in Minneapolis 2020 - 84 2021 - 93 2022 - 81 2023 - 72 Minneapolis was called Murderapolis in the 1990s. The rate went from 88 in 1985 to 105 in '86, then steadily increased, peaking at 182 in 1995, which was 35 more than in '94. It is believed that much was gang related, with the drastic increases of the 1980s coinciding with the major city gangs moving in. So we are quite improved since those days. But there is still much more improvement needed.

Stop watching Fox News or just stay in Coon Rapids. Crime has been falling for the last 30 years, just like in every other part of the country. If you aren't a criminal yourself, Minneapolis is very safe.

Honestly, you make it sound like we spend all winter below zero. Yes, we have major polar vortices come through that plummet the temps, but they don't last the entire winter - nor do they usually last more than a few days.

This couple is adorable and they make really fun travel videos all over the world. L3WG, I bet if you watched them in the UK you would find restaurants near you that you would love. Then you could make a couple of food videos in the UK to practice for your US trip.

This is my first time actually seeing Minneapolis and it is beautiful... Definitely an artsy city, but it can not take the name the City of Art when Philadelphia is a national hub of arts (visual and performative), history, food, and culture. Focused just on the visual arts: Philly has more public murals than anywhere in the USA, the largest public arts program, 10+ museums of art (including the famous Philadelphia Art Museum) and has one of the densest collection of street art in the world- where you can find the real LOVE statue (I didnt know Minneapolis had a replica in their statue garden until I saw it here)
@katmumn27 күн бұрын
It’s more than just arts museums in the Twin Cities, there’s the NE Minneapolis arts district and more than 200 theaters between Minneapolis and St. Paul.

He said the city had tons of coast, but they aren't on the ocean. They are on Lake Superior, which is the largest freshwater lake surface level, in the world. Third by volume. ~ St. Paul is another city, close to Minneapolis, so it is known as the twin cities. ~ In winter Minnesota gets a ton of snow.
@susanboop1589Ай бұрын
Minnesota is the land of ten thousand lakes. I think that's what they are referring to when they said shoreline. Also it's extremely cold and snowy in the winter. People have to charge their cars in the garage because it's so cold it kills the car battery.
@SarahManleyАй бұрын
Typically that’s older cars and very rare that it gets so cold that cars don’t start. Much more of a thing from the 1930s-1980s.

We have samosas too, it just depends what country’s cuisine you’re eating, basically every culture has a stuffed meat dish, and the difference is cooking method and seasoning profile. Our galleries aren’t all free, but the ones that are, are usually financed by public money or charitable trusts. Minnesota in general, really prioritizes public recreation. From nature and bike trails, beaches, parks, to art and music. It’s very cold and snowy in the winter, the lakes all freeze over, so in wintertime, there’s ice fishing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, skating, and even portable saunas and winter plunges at the lakes. It’s a really nice area to be outside in. No matter the weather.

I remember going to Minneapolis when the Foshay Tower was the tallest building in the city, but by the time I was in high school the IDS building had been built and we got to go to its observation deck. In the last 50 years, lots more skyscrapers have been built. I have lived in Minnesota most of my life, but I've visited 41 other states, Minnesota is as nice as any of them.

When I was growing up, there was kind of a punk rock vibe to everything, but it's chilled out a lot {or maybe I'm just old and don't notice anymore}. Somali food is my favorite. I'm surprised she didn't talk about all the spices in the xawaash rice.

I live just east of St. Paul; about a 15 minute drive to get into downtown. The Twin Coties area is a great place to live. The winters here aren’t as bad as they are made out to be, in my opinion. I spent the majority of my life in the north east of the USA. If you like winter sports and winter festivals, including a huge ice sculpture festival, then the Twin Cities is the perfect place for you. 😊

I've lived in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul most of my life. I have also lived on the east and west coasts. I love the Twin Cities area. It is big enough to have everything you could want from a city without it being obnoxious. Near wilderness is an easy drive out of town. Arts, music, pro sports, biking, winter and water activities - there is something fun to do any time of year.

The sky bridges between buildings is mostly for the Winter months, because as they said, it gets damn cold there in the Winter. So to keep people out of the cold, walking between buildings, they incorporated those sky bridges into the buildings. Pretty genius idea really, right?
@nancykaminski860027 күн бұрын
Skyways, not sky bridges. I worked in downtown Minneapolis for 8 years and walked miles through the skyways on my lunch hour. Sadly, due to the effects of the pandemic, the downtown offices are almost deserted. When I worked there, the skyway they walked through would have been crowded with people. Now the skyways are pretty dead, as are many of the shops on the skyway level.

Minna-pole-less lmbo comes from the Dakota word mni, meaning 'water', and the Greek word polis, meaning 'city'. Some of our cities/towns are difficult to pronounce.
