4:41 I saved up enough in the early 90's to buy a motorbike. My Mother made me use that as a deposit to buy a house. Now I can buy all the motorcycles and cars I want. Good work Mum.

The reason most people live in the major cities is that's because that's where most of the jobs are.

Kabir, Australia has started to build up. For Melbourne, consider the following suburbs today compared with 2010: Footscray, South Yarra, Box Hill, Doncaster, Coburg, Preston. Not to mention Southbank. These have mini skylines now that never used to be there. Sydney is further in front: Chatswood, St Leonards, Parramatta, Rhodes + many more. The other cities are behind but they have smaller populations.

Water supply is critical in a very dry land. Not many places for big dams. Cities can't grow without water supply nearby. Not logical to build on farm land that's vital for food growing. Urban development and planning for more dense living in areas around train lines is what's needed. And a firm boundary around each city to not keep going further out.

When I was young children stayed home living with the family unit until they married but now we have them leaving home as teenagers and moving into shared homes etc. That has taken up a lot of family homes. Of the 8 homes in my cul de sac, 3 have single people living in them. Combine that with foreign investors and immigration and that's why we are short of housing. Interest rates were 18% in the 80s when I purchased my home. It was years of going without basic needs but paid off in the long run.

1. The approval time for building a house is ridicules. It take upward of 3 month to get a housing approval. Other countries it's more like a week. 2. The government has cut immigration by almost half & made it a priority to let in tradies. Overseas investors have to be stopped. They are the ones that buy homes, in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth & Brisbane & are left vacant. As it's a tax write off. 3. It's crazy to think that a mega-rich person in say China can own a home in Sydney & not even rent it out. This causes a rental crisis, which we are also in the middle of.

6:19 the flip side is that they boom and bust the building industry and cash us in. We work hard and buy a house then they crash the industry and take our houses. There are heaps of trained carpenters and bricklayers but we have moved on because of this predatory behaviour.

The problem is we can't build any kind of home fast enough to meet the insane amount of mass immigration taking place, and not all of that immigration is high quality education, a lot of it is third world refugees who go straight on the dole. The other thing is to build more homes you also have to build the infrastructure to service those homes at a massive cost. We have to reduce demand by reducing immigration to buy us time to build those homes and infrastructure.

Moving further away from the coast increases the need for more expensive infrastructures ie water, power, gas facilities. Plus in WA it’s not too far out from the coastal fringes in certain areas before you hit deserts. The idea of “air conditioning” in these areas would certainly blow out the grid for the entire state of WA. The whole terrain in Australia is certainly different to areas in England. It would be like suggesting that more homes should be built in the Scottish Highlands. Unless you have travelled the outback you do not understand the difficulties. Mass immigration of peoples many without the skills needed in Australia is the problem. 700,000 in one year is utter negligence by this Labor government.

something these videos never point out, many older properties are being subdivided these days, if there's enough space to build a granny flat, you are seeing them more and more. going up sounds good in theory, but red tape and the impact it has on town water and sewage systems comes into play, the city I live has a stormwater system designed around 150yrs back, they have struggled to keep up since I can remember (51yo) and most of it is beneath buildings, so can't just be upgraded (as with drinking water and sewage removal pipes), building tighter together, reduces the amount of water that can soak into the ground and increases flows into the stormwater and rivers, causing more flooding, if there was a simple solution that side of things, all that would be holding back building apartment blocks etc, is politicians from Federal down to local councils, either through not funding the building of government housing or height (and other) restrictions

also our city has to send waste a few hours away, there is no room in the tip here and they can't find a suitable place for a new waste management place locally

You keep saying build high rises, but that solves nothing as the ones built at the moment are all high end luxury condos, they cost more than a hose in the suburbs 🥺

Of course YOU CAN live in Australia. Maybe not in the capital city of each state/territory or own your own home there. People can buy and live in regional cities and country towns..The caption of this video is a lie !

No one is interested in living in apartments, we like our space nd outdoor life. As has been said before te insane amount of immigration is putting extreme pressure on housing and infrastructure. The immigrants are not all trades/professional either but unskilled from 3rd world countries.

We need to reduce immigration for a little while; speed up housing approvals from local governments; at the start you mentioned why not build inland? Too hot and dry inland and too little water.
