Kool Aid is nothing like when I was younger. Moms were master flavor mixers when I was little. If I buy it now I always use more Kool Aid for more flavor and then more sugar. I swear the packs have less in them now than in the 90's.

Another brand makes the same hard cough drop type candies called “Toxic Waste” and I actually like them a bit better because they have the sour powder built into the middle of the candy so they stay sour pretty much the whole time instead of just turning sweet when the powder coating is gone like with Warheads 👍. They have the same flavors as Warheads but also make a tropical flavored pack as well! I’m not too crazy about them though 😆

Yeah, the whole point of Warheads is to impress the other kids in your third-grade class by proving that you have the stamina or willpower or whatever to keep the thing in your mouth. Before Warheads came along (in the early nineties, IIRC), we had Atomic fireballs, which served much the same purpose.

One time, in my years of lower intelligence, my friend and I did our own warhead challenge. I fit 21 in my mouth and kept them in until all the sour was gone and ate them. He went for 22 and had to spit them out after 20 seconds. I won, but I couldn't properly taste food for at least a week, so in the end, he was the real winner

The "muddy buddies" are similar to what we call "puppy chow." It's extremely common, especially in the Midwest in the US, it is homemade though. The home made is one million times better. I tried that before and it didn't compare.

FYI, I worked at Frito-Lay for years. Lay’s chips (crisps) are your Walker’s. They even use the same symbol on the bag. So we don’t even have a Prawn chip. Seeing boxes like this is so weird, because the US has so many snacks, so many brands, so many flavors. We've got huge national brands, but also regional ones. Areas as small as individual states or a multi county area might have their own small soda brand or potato chips. With the big national or multinational brands, there are certain long running staples, successful permanent flavors, but also often an endless array of limited time ones. We've got generics that are often just as good as the big brands, in many supermarkets. We've got chain exclusives, where Wal-Mart or Dollar General or 7-11 might get an exclusive flavor. With so much available, its always fascinating to me what people decide to drop in a box to represent America .

Please look up a proper conversion chart for kool aid and use sugar. That one packet is for just under 2 liters of water. Also use 1 cup or 240 mL (according to google) of sugar. Basically mix all that into a pitcher then pour some into a glass. A lot of Brits for whatever reason read quart as cup if they aren't familiar with imperial measurements.

After we find our perfect blend she would add ice to it. I drank mine warm. Fun fact in the military they drink their drinks at the temperatures that they are in. Warm outside drink warm, it uses less body energy to cool it down or warm it up.

Charleston Chew is actually a product of Tootsie Roll Industries. Also the reason Hersey's chocolate has that "interesting" flavor is because the milk chocolate is made with actual milk whereas European milk chocolate is made with powdered milk. The process of combining the milk and chocolate brings the milk to a high enough temperature to start to sour, giving it it's unique flavor. Hersey's actually supplied the chocolate used by MOST American chocolate confections including the chocolate used by Mars and M&Ms.

Your reaction to the warhead brought back middle school memories. I took a huge bag to school and my 3rd period teach was the science teacher/basketball coach/County EMT (popular cool guy). He had a rule of we could eat in his class if we hide it if another teacher came in and we gave him some. So I put a habd full on his desk and the class was extra quit to watch the show. Needless to say he chocked nearly to dead. After he could breath he wanted to know how gave them to him. The hold class turned to me. I make muddy buddies on my own. Made with Chex cereal, then melt together in the microwave chocolate chips, peanut butter, margarine or butter, then add vanilla to it and mix together. Microwave a tiny bit longer if mixture isn't smooth. Mix in a bowl with rubber spatula with cereal until coated. add powdered sugar about 1/2 cup at a time, seal bowl with a lid and shake for a little while, add more until the powdered sugar is well coated around the cereal. Serve and eat when finished coating with the powered sugar. I can give measurements if you'd like, or I'm sure the recipe is online.

When my son was about 9 we went to Magic Mountain and he bought a fairly big bag of lemon Warheads. He ate them throughout the and woke up the next morning with a sore on his tongue! They rebranded Warheads probably 10-15 years ago and re-categorized those as the "extreme" level candy when they rolled out a half dozen new Warheads candies. In my day, those were it. Everyone loved them. We'd go to Haunted Trails (a little double mini golf course, go kart, laser tag, warehouse sized level arcade with a couple little rides local place) and try and get tickets, these were always a primo item to get when you cash out on the nice items (framed posters, basketballs, waterguns etc) and needed to fill a random bag of candy. Same with Skate West (a roller rink with a nice arcade that for some reason was THE place to hang out for 2 years in middle school). I remember once I hit a gigantic jackpot and literally sat there for 10 minutes waiting for the tickets to pour out. Those upright light align games where there isn't a trick or computerized system to them. Just nailed it. It was a second Halloween with what I walked out with. I could eat probably 2-3 times as many as most before I finally have to stop because of the acid in my mouth and not the sour. I eat em blankfaced. I like them, but I wish then either doubled/tripled the sour (adding granulated sour sugar instead of just citric powder might work) and/or made them into gumball sized smooth boiled fruit sweets because that's my favorite part of them to begin with.

Oh man, Charleston Chews were my favorite before I had to give up candy due to diabetes. They have a box version which is just a lot of bite-sized pieces. It's vanilla nougat, but the way, not toffee. It has a strawberry version as well.

A lot of people will buy Warheads and then rinse them off to get to the sweet part which is lame; it clearly says "EXTREMELY SOUR" right on the package and it's the entire point of the candy! As a kid I ate so many it killed two layers of skin inside my cheek.

The muddy buddy is actually based of the Chex breakfast cereal. I'm sure it was some clever person's recipe that Chez began adding it's recipe to their boxes. Kind of like their response to rice Krispy treats. I've never had them homemade, but I really like the bagged kind. They even have a few other flavors.

You can make Muddy Buddies. The crunchy part is Chex cereal (if you don't have it by that name, I'm sure you have them.) I like Rice Chex. They are little squares which look to have been woven. Then you stir in peanut butter and melted chocolate. Drop them by small spoonfuls into a paper bag with powdered sugar in it. (I think it's called something else there. Basically it's sugar that has been spun into a powder.) Once your candy is covered, place it out on a sheet of wax baking paper. Try to separate the pieces with a couple of forks or gloved hands. I'm sure you can find an actual recipe online.

I love Boston Baked Beans, when I can find them, that is. Chili Cheese Fritos are another favorite of mine. I don't really like sour candy, but my daughter & grandkids do. I wouldn't even attempt a Warhead, so I gotta give you props for that!

Also, what you call the Mars Bar, is called the Milky Way in the US, what you call the Milky Way is called the Three Musketeers bar in the US, all are made by the M&M-Mars company.

The Muddy Buddies are so good! They're also called "Puppy Chow". When my husband first came to the US, he couldn't get enough of them! For the Fritos, something I picked up in Texas was Frith Pie. You put Fritos in a pie plate, ground meat/veggie meat on top, then top it off with cheddar cheese and jalapeños. It's really good, but something that you can eat only like once a year because it's a lot of food. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that Corn Nuts have a nice smell 😂 Swedish Fish is a good movie snack if you opt out of popcorn! With the Warheads... that's everyone's reaction when they eat them. But we still do, knowing the consequences. When I was in middle school, we would have contests to see how long you would hold a warhead on the "sour portion your tongue.
