One newspaper called it "payback time", but the British public was positive after Buckingham Palace announced on Saturday that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan would no longer be working royals - losing their "Royal Highness" titles and paying back public money spent on the refurbishment of their home.

To the UK Treasury as it was taken from what is called the Sovereign Grant which is paid out of Crown Estate revenues the profits of which then go to the UK Treasury (aka the taxpayer). It was £300 Mn last year.

The Crown Estates profits have been given to the Treasury to offset any costs for Civil Government.
