Not nice to hear for those with so called rotted minds😢

Hoarding is a side-effect of trauma, and not an underlying mental condition. In the U.S. it is a diagnosed disorder and there are people who specialize in treating it and other obsessive compulsive / anxiety driven disorders. Glad to know England has done the same. The saddest thing is many get help with getting the hoard cleaned out, but not with the underlying issue.

I think the approach makes it far, far worse. Once the person admits to not having quality of life in their home, make it absolute. EVERYTHING GOES...except!! You may pick out your very most favorite things..ONLY. Only a couple items from each room, other than useful furniture of course! Same outcome, but with the focus redirected to favorite happy things, rather than sad partings...just my thoughts

Unfortunately, hoarding recovery doesn't work like that. Definitely needs therapeutic help though.

@Lili-xq9sn yes, agree for long term..but I'm looking at ineffectual 'couple days' help' on the scene, and no noticeable progress, when these people need a safe space! Therapy can continue, but the mess will never change, without extra hands around, you know?

Unfortunately, they have to be in charge of it. They have to want to change and have to want ongoing therapy. That couple of days can get the ball rolling or help keep them from being booted from their home because they are stuck in their mire.
