Right so last Xmas my partner rang her council to get a permit for a van at the local tip, we got a permit hired a van and it took me a good couple of hours to fill it, got to the tip to be told the van was to big in height and I couldn't go in so we tried another tip who take large vans and because she was half a mile out the catchment zone they wouldn't let us in. Tried the private waste site who by the time we messed about with councils had all closed. I had to pay for the van for another day and empty it all back in her garden. I'm well against fly tipping but I'll be honest that day I was so very easily tempted to drop the lot in a lay by somewhere. Make it easier again for people to go to the tip and this will stop

So many people here don't get it, local councils collect council tax, the majority goes to county unless a London Borough, large metropolitan or unitary authority. Local authority is a collection authority and county/unitary etc. Is a disposal authority, the regulator is the Environment Agency. Local authorities have some powers and can take action when business tries to dispose of commercial waste at domestic civic amenity sites or in domestic collections as the tax payer should not be subsidising a business it pays for its own waste collections and disposal. The Environment Agency used to be spot on and we're on top of regulation and would come down hard on transgression, now they are a waste of space and even when presented with all the evidence, video, photos, observation logs, documentation and s.9 statements they do not act, they are not fit for purpose. Give LA's there budgets and powers and these problems would be sorted.

It's also now closed on Wednesdays and only open between 10-4 on a Sunday. Before these "improvements" anyone could rock up on demand, it was open seven days a week, things were fine. There was no need to change it.

Council-run household rubbish centres have become almost impossible to access to dispose of household waste, with so many restrictions on what waste they will take, even restricting the number of visits households can make within a given period. What should households do with everything that falls short of the rules? The local council is of no help. Hence, householders call a local collection services and they fly-tip the rubbish. It's a vicious circle! at some point the councils need to take a stand on this, with education and providing trusted services for household disposals. if the UK councils (local government) cant deal with problem waste then it should become a government issue. it about ownership of the problem and where does that fall! if we cant deal with the waste, then we shouldn't be allowing the production and sales of those items that ultimately become the problems for waste disposal services.

He either goes behind my back to get his 'right-hand men' to burn the rubbish on site or if not flammable rubbish then his JCB driver will sort it out, Dig a huge hole where the raised floor is supposed to be, and then backfill with mud. The safety and health officer who came to 'assess risks' on site is a waste of time, doing 'tick the box' job. I as a site manager incidentally am a migrant worker. It is either shut my mouth or I stop supporting your work permit. The system with the Coventry Council, NHBC, HSE what else are pieces of joke. The Queen even gave him an MBE to my former boss for 'contributing to Coventry. He claims to be a reputable builder in Coventry. NUTS! Anyway, I was bullied by him and also bullied and harassed by his fellow 'right-hand men', physical assault included. It was so severe that my mental health went downhill exponentially and ended up in a mental health facility for 9 months to receive treatment. The doctor did a very good job using electro-convulsion 20 times before I realised suicide was a shame to my family and my community. The doctor must have done a very good job of convincing me not to go back to work, I am sure he has researched the company I have worked for more than 20 years. One ward round day, he told every junior doctor ward manager nurse in the room that 'the gentleman has been bullied too severely and for far too long' The day he discharged me from the hospital he said to me 'You have built enough for Coventry, It is time to take care of yourself which you have neglected for far too long'. The problem is that non of the councils provide commercial waste solutions, even for a small fee would be the solution. This forces tradespeople to pay exorbitant prices to dispose of their waste, costs that are then passed on to their clients. This lack of affordable waste management options is unfair and needs to be addressed.
@nickhill22236 ай бұрын
This problem is not going to go away. With Landfill's rapidly filling up, and other ways of getting rid of waste few and far between, the cost of legitimate disposal is not cheap, hence why, there is a lucrative trade in illegal dumping. Anyone shouting for Council's to make the Tips a free for all, are you then happy to subsidise Businesses disposing of their waste, e.g. Property Developers who may produce hundreds of tonnes of waste, some of it more expensive to get rid of, through increased Council Tax? I'm not!

This is largely due to a "Don't care attitude", exhibited by most people, including those who just chuck their rubbish on the floor, not even putting it in a bin. I learnt when i was about 4 that you do Not throw it on the flor, if you make litter when you are out and about, you put it in a bin. If you cannot find a bin, you take it home and put it in the bin there. Later i learnt about the "My little bit won't hurt, so i'll add my little bit to it". But this doesn't work either, because it readily gets out of hand. If a town is kept tidy, you can embarass people to not do it. But to cure it you have really got to come down very hard on the perpetrators.£50,000 fines and/or prison time.

It does 9mpg, what builder is using this thing as a work vehicle?!?!?! Then wanting to charge people for certain types of waste is absolutely ridiculous. as someone with over 10 years legitimate experience in this industry I can tell you for a fact the issue is that it's so expensive to dispose of rubbish. The govt should be spending however many millions it requires to cover the cost of disposal so that normal people can dispose of stuff for free. Instead for example it's £50 to throw away a fridge officially, it's no wonder they get dumped on street corners then the compressor gets cut out for scrap. I know people making mega money doing illegal waste disposal and it will never ever change.

@electrickal15 ай бұрын
It is absolutely incredible that the councils couldn't see this coming. Around 45 years ago the fly tipping problem was solved overnight by the creation of civic recycling centers, these were the ideal places, locally positioned and paid for by general taxation. However, in the past few years the bean counters in the councils who are all too young to be aware of the past problems have changed the way recycling is carried out, everyone but blind fools knew we would go back to the bad old days where junk refused entry at the civic sites would not be hauled home, rather disposed off in an innocent farmers field somewhere. So until the idiots who are very unfortunately paid their salaries from public funds stand aside and allow common sense to prevail, this problem and many others will get massively worse. My advice to everyone who is refused entry is to dump their junk somewhere, because these clowns are too arrogant to listen, they need to see that we the tax paying public own these facilities and we need to be able to use them when we want.

Fly tipping is definitely a wide spread issue. I live fairly close to the local council recycling centre (aka the tip) and there have been a number of incidents of what I would characterize as small business / sole traders dumping commercial waste. I'm talking about the likes of builders who don't want to pay to dispose of waste. No doubt already having factored in charges for their clients but wanting to make an extra bit of money on top. However when it comes to household large items like old sofas and white goods then the council will often collect those from the house holder. It's a service that my local council provides but would assume that other councils do similar. You ring them up and arrange a collection. I've done it when I needed to get rid of a sofa and it was free. They may charge under certain conditions but it's going to be cheaper than using some shady business. And at least you know that it will be correctly disposed of.

that would then be passed onto the rest of us, with the increase in licensing fees for 2025 and new legislation meaning waste centres can no longer operate open air sites its now very likely that the price of a standard skip in 2025 will be atleast £550 according to waste operators, maybe if the EA did not charge ridiculous licensing fees then companies would offer their services cheaper

You have countries that offer free bulk removal. Those places don't have a fly tipping problem. Shocker isn't it? It's a classic case of passing down the buck here. As long as it's cheaper and more convenient to either call a dodgy removal company, or just dump it yourself, people will dump themselves. The solution is simple, make the legal, proper way to get rid of stuff more convenient and cheaper than the dodgy companies.

Hydrogen Sulphide was the first thing that came to mind when the citizens of Spital mentioned a 'eggy' smell. People have died ,suffocated from the effects of HS2. From Wiki.. Hydrogen sulfide is toxic to humans and most other animals by inhibiting cellular respiration in a manner similar to hydrogen cyanide. When it is inhaled or its salts are ingested in high amounts,[clarification needed] damage to organs occurs rapidly with symptoms ranging from breathing difficulties to convulsions and death. Despite this, the human body produces small amounts of this sulfide and its mineral salts, and uses it as a signalling molecule.
