Everyone and you have told a lie before under stress, but his intentions are good it's just a cold, hard, money working world we live in and people pressuring him for donation making so *Sales creeps in. Everyone is narcissist, you also and has it in brain, it comes and goes as Ego, Super Ego and ID adjust to reduce it and humble someone. But he does not tick any boxes of having NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) where the brain is disabled of that reduction. So he's not a narcissist.

As is your estimation of whether he is a narcissist; if you knew anything about the psychology you talk about, you'd know narcissists and psychopaths are experts at playing the part, and they will not hesitate to indulge in any behaviour that furthers their cause, for example contrition, apology and playing the victim.

He actually isn't running it as a charity, he's registered as a CIC. It is similar, but he gets hammered with a VAT bill every year. The mistake he's made is not separating the charitable side of the business from the commercial side. He's got it all lumped into one big mess, which makes it look like he's pocketing donations. He still needs to pay his own and staff wages, buy work vans, materials, etc, etc. This is why he has 700k of donations sitting in the business. A CIC isn't supposed to make a profit.
