Change These Windows Settings Right Now
Changing these settings will stop windows 11 from downloading & installing drivers. Microsoft are known for not keeping the drivers updated, which can cause major problems, especially graphics drivers.
Type gpedit in search to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
Browse the following path:
Computer Configuration / Administrative Templates / Windows Components / Windows Update / Manage updates offered from Windows Update
On the right side, double-click the
Do not include drivers with Windows Update policy.
Select the Enabled option.
Click Apply.
Click OK.
Registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
Right-click the Windows (folder) key, select New, and click on Key.
Name the key WindowsUpdate and press Enter
Right-click the created key, select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Name the key ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate and press Enter.
Double-click the newly created DWORD and set the value from 0 to 1.
Click OK.
Registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft \Windows\DriverSearching
Double-click DriverUpdateWizardWuSearchEnabled and set the value data as 0. Click OK.
Restart PC

this sounds like a good idea for pc's with latest hardware that still has driver support from manufactures.. but when end of support this should be turned back on as windows can actually add better drivers after manufactures end their driver support

​@@Britec09see, now they almost done with 24h2, and has announcing the NPU in order to gain the most out of latest windows 11 update or latest windows 11 build let say. Still remember their plan that said they want to try to reduce the carbon emissions with windows 11, while for now most of PC or Laptop that maybe just 3 or 4 years old that just came out around 2021 or 2020 will suffered with the latest windows build. Does that means we need to buy a new devices? Just for the NPU that they said required for the latest windows 11 build? Is that called as reducing e waste?, is that called reducing carbon emissions?. So let's take a look to straight fact BRIAN, 69-70% market share are huge number, most os user still on 10. While 26% market share of Windows 11 is just basically a proof that there's something wrong with 11, if it's not really that bad, why does half of windows user in this entire planet resist to move on, why there is still alot of complaints about windows 11? Now they try to selling a brand new PC with the new NPU thing in order to just to gain the requirements of latest windows 11. I mean wow, minority Mate. But I'm still on Majority side.

So I think integrating this AI COPILOT stuff is just too much, why they just don't simply makes an apps or single program that we can download it or not. Why, it's even makes more sense if they just let's say makes an single app or program rather than forcing the preview builds on my taskbar and adding code and registry to the update, it's forced, it's not user choices, same with the edge, majority of people had freedom with their own things, it's also forced.

This is good to know. Windows update mucks up the graphic driver on my Dell G5 Ryzen 9 laptop. Then i have to go to AMD Adrenaline site to get things working right again. Thanks a lot Sir.

Hi Brian, thanks for the video. These are very useful tips. Yes, this can be problematic sometimes. Even with the correct drivers installed, you can get the wrong driver or drivers via Windows Update. Then, I have to reinstall them, which is not fun. Hmm, interesting Brian now I usually download drivers from the manufacturers if I suspect they need updating but that means a fair bit of work to find out what new drivers there are so is there any software that we can use to find this out automatically? Just one more thing I use my laptop most of all and it has inbuilt Intel graphics for example and finding out what the latest drive can be quite time-consuming and the software I mentioned would be more helpful to do just this.

Wish I'd done this a couple months ago. Not long ago WU arbitrarily updated my AMD drivers without asking, enabling an iGPU that I wasn't even aware I had (7800X3D). Chrome subsequently caused major problems with a flash drive I was using on a daily basis for backup when it started trying to use this iGPU. Eventually the drive stopped working altogether. Did the same thing to a second flash drive. Of course the cause of the problem wasn't initially obvious. Took a long time to figure out what the cause was. Glad I was running that 'portable' on a flash drive - no idea what it would have done to my OS SSD.

Good Idea Brian but i mostly have old hardware, that microsoft has saved me on many an occasion with their generic drivers. Manufacturers should support older hardware more. Even if to provide a paid app for updating, as per third parties etc. Thanks Mate.

The manufacturers do support their hardware, up to a certain point. The drivers are there on the Web site under Support.

@@anon-kq3md from my experience over the years with 64 bit systems. This happens with wifi cards or graphics cards, which can be swapped out. Or try the last or original driver from the wifi or GPUs manufacture site. ... This is why its a good idea to make copies of the drivers. ...If you install Linux Mint you would not have any of these problems, until 64 bit systems go away completely that is. ....This is actually happening with 32 bit systems.

Microsoft keeps welding on these new "features" and, just as fast, Windows users break out the angle grinder to grind them off again. It seems as though no one appreciates all the "additional functionality" and instead want a simple, stable, secure system upon which the user can build out the functionality that they want.

No but microsoft does do a good job of continually reinstalling the wrong graphics driver over top the correct one. that's why i shut that crap off an update the drivers myself.
