Akihiko realized his feelings for Haru in the autumn while they were living together right before the CAC concert (but it's mentioned in the manga that even as far back as their concert in the summer, Akihiko was already in love with him, he just wasn't ready to admit those feelings to himself because of how things were with Ugetsu). Akihiko spent the rest of 🍂autumn🍂 and all of ❄️winter❄️ working on himself after the CAC concert in order to be a man that he felt Haru deserved as a partner. Finally, during 🌸Spring🌸 after his violin performance, he confessed his love for Haru which is when they officially began their relationship ❤️❤️

Can we give a round of applause for the symbolic imagery in this anime and movie 🙌 Aki goes from living in a dark, almost dungeon-like, home that feels really cut off from the world, to a warm, bright and airy home where's he can fully take in and appreciate what's around him. Very reflective of his relationship development and growth as a character. We love to see it :)

Ugetsu and Aki's relationship didn't work out because Ugetsu's talent and Aki's envy, they loved each other yet suffocated each other as well. Ugetsu's so good at violin and it started to make Aki envied him and made him thinking he's not good(that's why he ended up not enjoying music as much as before), Ugetsu felt bad but he couldn't give it up because he loved violin sm and he literally made a living with it. I don't really get some people who hate Ugetsu. They literally blame Ugetsu for everything even though what happened wasn't Ugetsu's fault. It's neither Ugetsu nor Akihiko's fault, they just loved each other but they didn't work, that's it.

I don't think they blame only Ugetsu, but you have to admit one thing - it become toxic for both of them. it is true no matter who at fault or who to blame for it, they should have end this cause it harm both of them in the end. but Ugetsu just can't let him go and Aki also can't seem to be able to let go either and always come back only to be hurt AGAIN by this person.

Like what you wrote, their relationship was indeed toxic and I'm happy that they ended it, but you really can't blame neither of them-Ugetsu nor Akihiko for it like what those people do, it's horrible.

@@Lalalin26 I won't pretend to like Ugetsu, cause I don't like him, but I won't say he is evil. he is not evil, but the fact is he did become toxic to his partner Aki is a fact. it's not his fault and it's not Aki fault, but that what they become and this is why Ugetsu needed to end it in a clear cut, but he just didn't and I get why people get angry at this, cause watching one partner showing his other partner how he cheats on him and has sex with other people is frustrating to watch even if you know that it isn't their fault, it is still annoying.

akihiko’s voice had no business being that deep

I loved this part of the story. It talks about a maturer kind of relatonship (not the usual naive or ignorant one of the high schoolers). Two persons love each other and wish to be together, but they arent good for each other (they get frustrated with each other and keep hurting themselves) but they cant leave or end it. They became co-dependent of each other and usually need a third person or a huge crisis to happen to help them terminate it. And this kind of couple are so f****ing real!! Be it because a pregnancy or a choice between them and another life-changing choice (maybe work) and just keeping with it.... Both and neither of Ugetsu and Kaji were at fault. And Haruki was just there, a good "choice" for Kaji, but he loved Ugetsu even if he wasnt good for him. So great how they told all the confusing feelings. And how it ended. Also, Ugetsu was so obsesed with the violin because it was the bond which he shared with Kaji. You shoud read the manga. Not only has a great moment of Uefuyu relationship development (and another kiss) that doesnt appear in the movie (too Kaji-Uge-Haru centric) but when Kaji tells Haru how he was being distant because he was working on bettering himself to become a man worth of Haru (a image worth of a wallpaper)

I loved this movie, it made me so happy to watch~💖💖 Btw am I the only one who loved the connection between Ugetsu and Mafuyu? They're so much alike -- from them both having trouble expressing themselves and using music as a conduit to do so, and also both being natural "geniuses". I also think they kind of look alike lol Ugetsu's expression when Mafuyu first came to the door and when he was watching him play the guitar was so cute 😍 And he even looked kind of happy when Mafuyu came the second time and said he was there to see him. I was a bit sad when Ugetsu said he didn't have any friends, but seeing him sit and tell his personal problems to Mafuyu was such a soft scene 🥺💕 And when he was about to call out to Akihiko after the breakup but Mafuyu popped in his head saying "it'll be ok" I actually started crying 😭 I don't read the manga but i"m hoping we get to see more of them together. It seems like such a pure and brotherly bond 🥰

yeah also - maybe someone already mentioned it in the comments through the YEARS lol, but obvi violin is just a metaphor for their relationship and for Ugetsu himself. that's why they always go "you gonna abandon violin??" or "I love violin, it's true that I'm happy with the drums (band and Haru) right now but that doesn't mean that the love I poured into violin (us) was a lie".

When you look close, this whole movie has so much incredible layers of symbolism. Akihiko has struggled with his relationship to the violin in a literal musical sense , but I think it moreso represents his relationship with Ugetsu, all the incredible love *and* incredible pain. Him focusing more on drums represents him falling out of love with Ugetsu and then falling in love with Haru. But he still plays the violin, and as he teaches in his farewell to Ugetsu, all the love that he has poured into the violin (and Ugetsu) wasn't pointless or false, even if he's moving on now. He can still carry that love with him while leaving the pain behind. And this all ties so beautifully into Sato's song, where he is finally able to move on from the pain of losing Yuki in loving Ue. Acknowledging and embracing the past while still looking forward. Sato releases Yuki, and Aki releases Ugetsu. Now Winter (Mafuyu) finds its Summer (Ritsuka) , and Autumn (Akihiko) finds its Spring (Haruki). Sato confesses to Yama in the Summer, Aki confesses to Haru during the Spring. It's all so genius and beautiful

you understand that when you watch like that - commenting without pausing and not following the subs closely cause you speak to the camera - you miss the key dialogue tho? like, the first thing that Aki says to Ugetsu that time is that "he's leaving" but you didn't realise it till later. same goes for other key stuff I liked your reaction overall and how you (unlike tons of people) are able to actually read the emotions and situations correctly. I mean I met people who described the whole Aki/Ugetsu relationship as "super cute" and were completely oblivious to the toxic side of it till the very last lines of the movie - which is obvious from the get go even from the visuals. I mean this pair is literally stuck in a basement with zero sunlight. Aki didn't even realise that there were fireworks and that fact - that he didn't know and never saw it on that particular holiday - "freaked him out".

Everyone hated on Kaji and when I watched the whole movie I couldn't understand why I agree he had done awful things but when I finished it and people still didn't like I personally just couldn't understand it but thats fine people can have they're opinions and reasonings I am a naturally forgiving person always welcoming the choice to repent for mistakes and some people aren't thats fine.
