British Airways FIRST CLASS & Concorde Room

I'm flying from London Heathrow (LHR) to Mexico City (MEX) for 12 hours in British Airways First Class on the 787-9.
My journey starts in Terminal 5 going through The First Wing before making my way to the British Airways Concorde Room - an exclusive lounge for First class passengers.
The cabin features the 2015 version of the BA Prime First class seat. There is a newer version of the seat with a door available on some 777s and all of the 787-10s.
I have a look around what the seat has to offer and review the service on board including the two full meal services as this is a 12 hour flight.

Your editing and balanced footage of yourself enjoying the service vs features of the service is excellent. Really enjoyed it - keep it up! Tip: Next time you are in the CCR, try the Espresso Martini or Manhattan. I didn't think the Brits were particularly good at cocktails but both of those are excellent quality and NYC-worthy! Can't go wrong with the LPGS, admittedly. I like BA's new F. Flew LHR-EWR last month and they swapped the 787 for a 772 with "old" F - but it was still a great ride.

I have had the pleasure of enjoying the Concorde Room on a number of occasions. Since I am flying a day flight back to the US, I usually have a hamburger in the dining room with chips and a nice red wine. I especially like that the house pour is Johnnie Walker Blue. It beats all the US carriers by a mile.

That's the thing - if you can get a ticket for £2k or an upgrade from J for £200, or an Avios redemption, then the BA F product is a steal. I've always had great and friendly crew on BA F and it's really made me want to come back even though other airlines offer a better hard product.

@@FlyManYann Can you shed some light on how you got First for £2K? We got a deal like that to South Africa, but that was back in 2019 and I've not seen anything similar for a while. Not that it's held us back, as we did two BA First flights last year on Avios, including (almost a year ago to the day) the same route to Mexico City.

@David F Usually the best way is to start from outside the UK when there's a particularly good deal on. Sometimes error fares. Usually this is easier with business fares around that price and then hope for a good upgrade price in the app or at the airport. This flight was none of the above, I paid 200k Avios return.

As I say, we got a great deal from London to South Africa with BA back in 2019 - before it all went pear-shaped ☹- but I've not seen anything similar since. Hope you enjoyed Mexico City. Nice video. I’ve just flown the same configuration on the same aircraft to and from the US. It’s not quite the latest seat which now has the suite door to match the Club design. Still I agree entirely with your review. The hard product is weak in certain areas but the soft product is good and the service excellent. I only paid £200 more than the business fare and I definitely drank more than that value in LPGS!

This video was shot in Terminal 5 so you'd only be able to access the Galleries First lounge with Emerald status. The lounges you mentioned are in Terminal 3 and with Emerald status it's a great experience for sure. My next video is having a look at some of these lounges!

@@charlesjay8818 Unless things have changed in the last couple of years, First on BA gives access to those lounges without status, if you happen to be flying out of T3. However, most BA flights out of Heathrow go from T5, which is (almost) exclusively BA and certainly has no lounges of other airlines. To be honest, if you have Concorde Lounge access, you probably wouldn't bother with anything else anyway - except, perhaps, the Qatar lounge in T4 😊though, as I recall, that's only available to Qatar passengers 😊

The bus gates are a really un-premium experience, but I'd say that even having to trapse through T5, and onto the transit to the B or C gates, where all long haul flights go from (unless its a bus gate), isn't a first class experience either. Imo BA should provide a car service to your gate from the CCR (which AF and LH do). Could use Jaguars or Range Rovers to be all British (even tho they're indian), but hatever it is it would be a huge step up for the overall experience. It also means that as an F passenger, you don't care whether it's a bus gate, you get driven to the plane in a nice private car either way. I imagine the current lounge design doesnt allow for this though, there would have to be a pick up/drop off area on the ground floor under the lounge, and lifts between it and the lounge above, but BA are planning to refurb all their lounges in the coming year or so, so this would be a great opportunity to plan for a service like this. It'd probably work better if the CCR and F lounge were switched around, but idk how easy that would be to do.

Just booked Heathrow to Atlanta, first class x2 seats. A one-off bucket list thing only, never done 1st class or business before. There was a BA sale on so it looked like the prices were good, that is, until the 'final' price was displayed. 'Taxes/fees/charges was £300 extra per person...and....'BA fees and surcharges' was....£900 extra per person. So, £1200, each, on top of the ticket price. WTF lol. We'll make it up by indulging in the service.

Yep BA surcharges are pretty ridiculous - APD doesn't help but the bulk of the fees are from BA. BA announced they are starting to rotate the champagne selection in First class so you'll get a chance to try something different on your upcoming flight!

The BA LHR lounges are due a complete refurb. They've started replacing furniture over the past few months but let's see how long it takes them to replace toilet facilities with something a bit more modern! I still think when flying West from Europe to the States you're not doing better than BA First. When flying East on the other hand...

Great report - thank you! Despite pricing at the top-end, BA really lets itself down with some of the items you called-out - toilets in Concorde Room and onboard, First passengers being put on a bus etc. Personally, I'm also not a fan of the 'casual' service onboard. For these reasons and many others, I'd rate BA well down the list of airlines' first class products and miles behind the 'best in class'. I do agree it's much better than its Business product though, which I now avoid at all costs. Singapore Airlines offered the best breakfast I've experienced onboard, closely followed by JAL and Etihad.

Great video, really enjoyed it! On Air France in First, you get escorted to the plane in your own private car. That is a nice touch, surprised BA does not do that in London for First Class passengers. Having to take the bus must have been a disappointment.

I think people's expectations of BA First is a little unfair sometimes, considering that it's significantly less than other airlines first class. They aren't necessarily trying to compete with the likes of Air France, ANA, Emirates etc. They usually focus on a good soft product onboard accompanied with a decent selection of routes. You can find return first class flights with BA to the US for 4k or less, which is quite a lot less than first on other airlines.

That's a very fair point. I managed to price up a return ticket to SFO in BA First the other day for about £2k (which is definitely at the very bottom end of the scale), but even £4k is way below the £10k or so you'd be paying with the other carriers you mentioned!

Great video don't know if you'll see this comment but I have the opportunity to fly 1st class LHR to EWR so shorter flight then this one but your video is one of the first that I have seen that has a interior seat vs window seat for 1st class. Did you feel like that reduced the premium experience not being able to look out the windows? I could take an earlier flight but that would reduce the time I would have to experience the Concorde lounge significantly as I am flying in from Dublin in the early-ish AM.

Glad you enjoyed the video! I usually always fly in the window seat because I love looking outside but honestly, I didn't miss it much on this flight. You'll have plenty to keep you busy like the dining, drinks and IFE, it shouldn't be an issue at all. Also, on the 787, they tend to force dim the windows anyway so you wouldn't get much of a view. Have a great time in the Concorde lounge and enjoy the flight!

The First Wing is closed until the 9th April because of the strike action. If you're connecting you wouldn't be using this anyway as the flight connections track would keep you airside so you can make your way straight to the lounge. (Assuming your flights are all under one reservation).

I thought BA First was pretty good, but then I flew Qatar Business and then Singapore Suites. I doubt anything can compare to the suites, but I agree with you, at the right price, BA First is still a very decent option. Flying it DFW - SIN via LHR soon, cost was a third of Singapore or any of the middle east airlines, so something of a no-brainer.

That's the thing, comparing BA First and Singapore Suites (even though they're both first class) isn't really fair since BA is usually a fraction of the price. BA is introducing a new First class seat on their A380s and the rumour is it might have a separate seat and bed like SQ Suites so I'm curious to see how that affects the price (if it's true!).

I haven't reviewed the BA A380 on video but if you're flying in First then I'd definitely go with BA. The A380 has an older seat than the one in this video (with a pop out IFE screen) but it has more space and you'll get the same service. If you're flying in business I'd go with American to avoid the old school BA business seat (which is what is on the BA A380). For business class I'd say: BA Club Suite (new) > American Business > BA Club World (old).

So this isn't the 1st class suit with privacy doors, but still, BA 1st class is very nice. Middle Eastern airline are so nice but too gawdy & bright. I took BA 1st class suites r/t to turkey & was stuffed with food, smiles, comfort & respect.

The lounges in LHR are a disgrace, the lower tier lounge is a joke, showers fill of mould and leak, the upper tier lounge is busy as hell and rude staff. Qantas first lounge in Singapore is great. BA should aim for something like that.

There's a reason people call BA first class the world's best business class - and I'm not even sure that's true anymore! I find the meal service in Qatar business class to be better than BA first. I will have a Qsuite video coming out soon where you can see the difference!

@@FlyManYann BA used to be the worlds best airline at one point, they need to get back there. Their ground service is non existent and needs huge improvement to be considered one of the best again

Nothing can make up for BA’s rotten customer service .They sold me a first class return to Dubai and then proceeded to tell me there was no first class on the way back and tried to put me on Belgian Airways. I am a regular traveller with emirates First and frankly British Airways, is like economy compared to Emirates first. The planes on Emirates are better. The service is better, and they understand how to deliver a premium offering. PA has abandoned me three times in the last eight months and flying business class with them to European destinations is a waste of money. They are quite simply the worst airline in the sky.

Definitely no comparison between BA and EK First class, I know which I'd pick any day of the week! But when flying West from London, this will probably be your best bet in my opinion.

I personally fly BA over EK. EK business is in a 2-3-2 layout (the same as BA WT+) and they charge more than BA First. So it’s a no brainier to take BA First over EK. That being said the BA A350 does not have First. Only the Club Suite which is regularly deployed from LHR to DXB.

the food would not be to my taste , don't do salmon or bass certainly no red meat , hate champagne so looks like a waste of money for me, but thats just my opinion

Definitely doesn't meet the standards of Middle Eastern and Asian carriers but when you compare the price it's a good offering.
