British army mess tins are crap for cooking this kind of normal food, everything sticks like sh*t to a blanket, they are too thin and completely the wrong shape, they are designed specifically to cook the issued ration packs, originally these were tinned food, you pierce the tins, stick them in water and boil. These days its boil in the bag rations, again stick it in the mess tin, add water and boil...usually with one mess tin acting as a lid over the other one ...then when the foods cooked you brew up with the water. used like this they are pretty good, for anything else they are crap. Using mess tins to cook normal food is like trying to eat soup with a fork instead of a spoon.... you can do it, but its very messy, it takes longer, your food gets cold and its pretty pointless.....just buy a cheap set of camping pans.

I like it, haven't had any problems with it yet, anything that sticks to it can easily be removed with a wire or chain mail pot scrubber but if you use cooking oil the sticking is greatly reduced

I saw a video from a professional chef who puts water in with the bacon. Seems counter intuitive, but it helps nicely brown it and crisps up. I do it all the time now at home. I’m thinking it would be perfect for mess tins.

I'm gonna be honest - That was painful to watch. But I feel the pain as I have been there done that, Spent more time tending the fire only to end up with undercooked burnt food and eggs that will just not part from the pan. I have now 'Seasoned' my larger mess tin specifically for cooking egg based food. Keep up the experimentation, I'm gonna watch your 'Take Two' now.

I really enjoyed watching this, thank you. I recently got an Austrian aluminium mess kit and I'm not looking forward to frying with it. I am used to seasoning cast iron pans, but apparently its a slightly different deal with aluminium. Apparently things just want to stick to it until you've developed a brown "film" of baked on oil on the surface. Impressed by your flint-and-steel skills btw. I have been practising with mine and I can reliably get a spark, but I've not yet managed to get from "spark" to "fire". Thank you for the honest no-BS video.

In Finnland we drink coffee most in the world. This kind coffee we call 'soot pot coffee'you must make this way. Put (7 gr ) full tea spoon coffee per cup and put it boiling water. Take away when boil hard. Same thing do it three times. Then put litle cold water and let stay a moment. Salt is older habit from north.

Looks like a good meal! I might need a night snack now... How are the bugs over there? The midges were out in great numbes when we went camping this weekend, even with bug repellent they took biters where ever they could smell flesh. Nasty things they are. Kinda tempted to buy a thermacell but the refills are damn expensive. The spot we were in had lots of sheep, ponds, marsh and coves... great spot for the bugs to multiply. Think there still are a few down in my lungs after I got a mouthfull. Bugs makes me miss winter! I keep forgetting the cutlery, can't even find my spork now hehe! Had to do a quick carved spachular for the pancakes for breakfast. Take care!

I don't keep the camera on all the time and only record what's worth showing at the time. Every youtuber does this unless they are live streaming it's not realistic or practical to upload straight videos as the video would be hours long and upload time would also be hours. No accidents or anything unforseen occurred so not sure what you are on about.
