British Army Presence in Fallingbostel Remembered 12.08.14

The British Army leaves Fallingbostel in Germany next year and a former soldier wants to preserve the memory of a presence that dates back to the Second World War. Kev Greenhalgh served for twenty years in the north German town, where he also pursued his hobby as an amateur archaeologist. Much of what he dug up relates to World War Two and now he has assembled it all in a museum close to the site of a camp that once held British prisoners of war.

i was stationed at fallingbostel from 1956 to 1959 in the 7 royal tank regiment and ha. ve many good memories of my time spent their,i wonder if the present blocks are still the same,close to the camp was an area known as the dustbowl where we used to practice tank driving.i often think to people i became very good friends with brian thacker and Jock Farrish great characters Early 1959 we amalgamated with the 4 royal tank and moved to honhe garrison being demobbed in august 1959

I dont think the dustbowl is still there but the blocks looked like they had never been renivated. Im sure the exact same as they were when you were there.

I was there with my family in 1962...my father was a sergeant in the 5th Royal Tank Regiment.. I remember the married quarters were pretty new....I was 10 years old at the time

I was there in 2 RTR in 86 when "Pup" Greehalgh was running the PRI store if I remeber correctly. Got me an Officers No1 Dress uniform for my wedding. Good to see him again
