A fleet of British Army and Royal Air Force helicopters, including the new upgraded Apache model, will be taking on an important role in the next step of Nato's largest exercise since the Cold War.
Nine new Apache AH-64E attack helicopters will be making their first appearance on exercise, along with four Army Wildcats and two RAF Chinooks in Finland and Estonia for Exercises Swift Response and Arrow respectively.
"It really is about trying to scale up, to show what we're capable of projecting and delivering into Eastern Europe as part of what we offer to defence," said 4 Regiment Army Air Corps Battlegroup Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Dave Lambert.

I took part in Operation Lionheart which I believe was the largest Nato exercise during the Cold War, it was.... an interesting experience, I'm sure those that go on this one will remember it for a lifetime. My life kind of took me another way and indeed I left the UK for quite some time but I often used what I experienced during it while managing people.

Apologies but have read some negative comments about this deployment. While we are a small island nation we are really well connected across the globe. Our military training in another European, Sovereign Nation is a sign of commitment and solidarity. Do I agree, personally with all the politics, not necessarily. Am I willing to watch another country bullied/invaded….definitely not. Apologies but rant over.

@robstafford8306 The problem is your fellow countrymen and media, not you. Your countrymen go out of their way to degrade, belittle, and diminish their allies and their achievements, quality, etc. This, in turn, breeds hate in response. Any negative comments you're seeing here is a direct result of that pig-headed attitude.

And at same time then ,last month Norway Finland and Sweden , the latter 2 having joined Nato now , had almost 20 000 troops in an Arctic exercise in Lappland ,that being a couple or few hundred miles from Murmansk . and now at this point in Steadfast Defender , Poland and Lithuania with about 20, 000 troops exercising, training to defend the Suwalki Gap in NE Poland ,&the Brits in with this at same time
