The Allies were successfully contained and only achieved a maximum advance of eight kilometers, much less than they originally planned, a simple German counter-check and recovered and lost a useless sacrifice than by a new recount, made after the end of the war (note.- Germany rearms with Hitler), established Allied casualties in 419,654 British and 204,253 French; 623,907 men, 146,431 of whom were reported as dead or missing. And German losses low from 600,000 to 465,000 tanks were not as reliable as they might in principle, as they remained vulnerable to heavy artillery, suffered constant mechanical failures and remained prisoners of the larger obstacles. In fact, only 21 of the 49 tanks available on September 15, 1916 came into combat, and the decision to use them earned him little criticism of General Douglas Haig, whom he was accused of showing the secret weapon too soon to elevate his performance h more acceptable limits.
