To be fair, in response for not using the word “biscuit” to refer to something “twice baked” American English just used a different word to describe those things, with the word “cookie” It was never about how well the noun it was describing fit the Italian/Latin etymology, it was just what sounded right
@Xanderj8910 ай бұрын
The endless debate between the “words are meant to define/communicate, but their concept exists beyond the word so the meaning being variable is always a factor” folk and the “words *are* their definitions and any new or variable definition needs a new word entirely” folk Etymology being a tool each group will use to justify precedent, whether they think that history shows flexibility is clearly needed or that a specific chain of events must be observed.

The word has also been used to describe hardtack, i.e. the dry cracker that sailors used to eat that's literally as hard as a brick and tastes like one too.

They used canned biscuits for the American version. Not a true biscuit in the South.
@THENAMEISQUICKMAN10 ай бұрын
Doesn't matter. The English example is straight out a premade package, the American version has to play by the same rule.

@patrickwilson70510 ай бұрын
They’re not really the same. Chicken fried steak generally doesn’t use breadcrumbs, isn’t pounded as thin as a schnitzel,and almost universally comes with white gravy on top.
