They both had a white residue which is water content used to bulk out the bacon. The very best bacon is dry cured. Dry cured NAKED bacon is nitrates free as well 👍

Personally, I've not been able to enjoy HP sauce since they changed the recipe after Heinz bought it. There are guides online about how to make it in the old style (used to be mostly apple and onion based before Heinz made it tomato based) so I may try making a home-made HP one day. Great video guys

I would have titled this high cost vs low cost as putting the word quality gives the impression that Aldi's equivalent is not good, and personally, i find most Aldi products to be good quality for money. Great video, though, Keith. You can't beat a bacon buttie 👍

I always get the HP and the Kerry Gold. They will last, as you say. And the Kerry Gold is grass-fed and much better for you. I like to get bacon and sausages from good butchers. The main variable then is the bread. Occasionally splurge on the bread or just use one you like. And there's the proverbial uncle.

1. Toast the cheap Aldi bread slightly, it helps with the slight stale taste. 2. Get HP Sauce instead of Aldi Bramwells it will last you ages and is worth paying more for because of the taste is superior and a good brown sauce can make or break a bacon sandwich Do those 2 things and it will still be cheap (you are just paying slightly more for the HP Brown Sauce but sometimes in life you get what you pay for and it's worth it). If you want thicker bacon just use 2 of the Aldi bacon rashers.. much cheaper as you get 10 rashers in a packet as opposed to just 7 from the butcher... no difference! But much cheaper cost

Ive no doubt the expensive bacon will be the best, but even a cheap bacon sandwhich is always awesome. I always have heinze ketchup on a basic bacon butty, but would now add cheese and cherry tomatoes instead.

Butchers bacon has no added water where supermarket stuff has added water the actual weight of the bacon cooked after the water has being removed after cooking will be 100g or less on a 200g or more weight pack.

I buy everthing from lidl, brown sauce and butter from lidle I thought was OK. But that bacon from the butcher looked delicious. I will be buying some bacon from the butcher next shop.

Good experiment Keith, on the whole no matter what you buy you get what you pay for, but is everything worth it? I never buy cheap bread as it always tastes dry or stale, the bread is worth the extra but not the amount you paid you can get an excellent loaf for much less. I always use HP brown sauce, worth it, I would compromise a little on the bacon as once again you can get good bacon from a super market which will be just as good if not better than a butchers. The butter to me is the icing on the cake, I will never compromise on this. On another note, my wife buys Sainsburys breakfast wheat cereal that tastes exactly like Weetabix but at about half the price.

I had a home made BLT lunchtime, Warbourtons thick toastie bread, co-op smoked back bacon done to a crisp in the air fryer, lettuce, toms and mayo, yum yum, middle of the road I’d say but very very tasty. I get bacon from aldi its a double pack its usually on the bottom shelf in a vaccum pack and the bacon is thick and lovely it cost 4 lound odd but it is a double back and its the essential range iuse that aldi brown sauce and tiger bread and butter love fran ❤xxxx

I only buy my bacon from the butcher or farmshop admittedly the price is higher but these days I’d rather go without than buy bacon that’s see through and pumped with salt. As for the bread I would prefer the sourdough but not at £4 and it’s HP sauce for me. To be honest my tastebuds recoiled in fear at the thought of the salty bacon 🥓

I wouldn't buy cheap bread the texture isnt nice i usually only have wholemeal bread which has to be warburtons or warburtons wholemeal danish or if i do have white bread very rarely then it has to be warburtons danish its lovely and light and yummy kerrygold grass fed cows butter is the best butter to have but thats my preference

I wouldn't of paid extra for the bacon you got from the butchers as it was just mass produced imported bacon no different to what you get in a supermarket. If i was going for high quality bacon i would buy a dry cured bacon preferably produced in the UK. There used to be somewhere near me that reared their own pigs and made amazing bacon and sold it mail order unfortunately they could not find anybody to take over the company when they retired so it had to shut down a few years ago. There is another local farm that produces exceptional bacon on a small scale but they cannot keep up with demand so there is often a long waiting list to buy their meat. If i was going cheap i would buy a pack of cooking bacon as there is nearly always plenty of rashers in those as well as thicker bits for steaks or cooking with and it usually works out at least half the price of even the cheapest rashers. For bread i usually make my own but sometimes buy the odd loaf, i quite like the Lidl low GI bread but it could be anything that grabs my eye. Rarely have sauce usually just salted butter and a bit of coarsely ground black pepper but do sometimes like a bit of chilli jam instead of the pepper. I would of been quite happy to eat both of the bacon sandwiches you made though. Don't think i have ever turned one down.

I think if your local butcher's charge a reasonable price, more people would use them, I'm all for supporting local businesses, but £4.00 odd for a loaf of bread is a piss take you could have got a freshly baked loaf at the supermarket for a fraction of the price, sorry I wouldn't have paid that price for a loaf bread yet again, if they reduced their prices, more people would use them, I love hp sauce with my bacon butty, take care.
