I really enjoy watching the round the world bikers, the ones who have been on the road for years, one Dutch and one Ozzie for example, both exceptional ladies doing what they love most. I know I will never do the same, when I was younger I was into sailing, professionally and for fun, only recently have I fallen in love with biking. A great sport, but quite a bit more dangerous than sailing, but hey, you only live once as they say, make the most of it.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

After a month and a half on the road I can imagine you're missing the home fires, even if while being home the quiet and solitude of your own thoughts, on the road, call to you. I'm a single man, so I'm not missing anyone per say, and I've taken a few trips on my motorcycle. My last trip was close to 8000 miles and when I was coming back and about 200 miles from my home base I thought to myself I could stay gone forever. But what I'm reading from you, and I'm imagining now though that for someone like yourself who's spent a large portion of the last several years on the road, everything you see along the way begins to blend together, not be as much a surprise for you, and a routine day in Bisbee calls you back. So --- I think I'd want to take a friend along for companionship in my travels. Maybe a small dog. I don't know Sterling, but you give those of us that have wanderlust a true picture and invoke thoughts of the good and bad realities of life on the road, and truly, I thank you for your videos and your thoughts.....

It's too easy to surrender to the immersive experience of these gorgeous travel documentaries, and that's no doubt the intention, but I'm making a conscious effort to look at every wonderful episode from the filmmaker's perspective, not only to recognize the enormous effort required to set up the shots, but in many cases, to try to reverse engineer how a shot was made. For example: 2:49 - For the great shot of riding out of camp from a perspective that's out in the lake... was a camera on a tripod in the shallow lake edge? Was there a convenient log protruding from the water, but still requiring some wading into the lake? Sterling didn't look soggy as he rode away. Was the drone hovering over the lake? However the movie magic was done, it's appreciated. 9:30 - Great advice. We don't need to spend months on the road to get the experience. A week is great. A long weekend could suffice. Even an overnight motorcycle camping trip is better than no trip.

Sterling, I am following your adventures and most recently the one up here to Vancouver Island BC. Much appreciated as I have toured extensively for 20 years in Europe and understand the work that goes into the soul searching on the journeys. I appreciate this more than words can explain. I Identify with your struggles of staying motivated and positive on an extended trip. It’s easy to get bored. Everything becomes the same and things become a chore. Moderation is good as you said a few days to a week at most. I don’t know how you could do it for 45 days without having a few mental breakdowns and just make a beeline back to the AZ border. I have found that quite often. The planning and anticipation of a trip is far more exciting than the execution….

I mounted a Samsung Tab A7 Lite tablet on the handlebars of my baby GS to use for OSMand GPS navigation, but also with the intention of using it to control the GoPro mounted to the chin of my helmet. I did a couple of hours of research and apparently the tablet only has one Bluetooth and I'm using it for the GPS to intercom audio. In theory I could use WiFi but that's not happening. I decided to go low tech and activate the GoPro manually, without looking at it. That would be much easier if the GoPro Hero 8 audible confirmation beeps were distinct for each operating mode so I could tell from the beeps if I was in Video mode or Time Lapse mode. I'm also designing and 3D printing a folding lens cover that I can install on the GoPro Hero 8 so I can flip it up and make a short video and then flip it down so subsequent videos aren't looking through a lot of bug guts. I can't even imagine the hassles endured to make these gorgeous documentaries with all of the video equipment required. My motorcycle adventure photography equipment list is relatively simple and ultralight, in keeping with my overall philosophy - a GoPro (probably to be replaced with a DJI Osmo Action 3 once my GoPro gets flaky) for on-the-bike video, and my Pixel 6 phone and a small Casio camera with a 25mm lens and 18X optical zoom.

Thanks for another great episode. I watch a lot of motorcycle-travel YT channels, and yours is easily the best in terms of cinematic quality. I have a somewhat unusual approach to riding in dust. I don't. I leave plenty of distance. I'll even pull over and wait a minute or two. This applies to trucks, cars or other bikes. If the dust is that bad, I'm hangin' back. If you follow in the dust behind a group of riders, before long, you're chewing grit. And you can't see. Screw that. I'd rather not go slower and/or wait for a bit, but it beats not being able to see and chewing grit. It's been a while since I did a trip over 2 weeks, but the last time I did a month on the road (and I was moving every day, rarely staying over a day or two), I was pretty tired after 3 weeks. So, unless I take a break and stay a few days in a place more often, I think 2 weeks is probably my sweet spot. I'll try something longer in a couple years, with some aforementioned breaks and see how that goes. Thanks for the video, it was a nice watch, as always.
