The Kentucky All State Choir is comprised of high school students selected from across the state to rehearse and perform during the Kentucky Music Educators Association conference held annually. This particular video was taken at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Louisville, Kentucky where the students are staying for the conference. The choir members come out onto their hotel balconies (all 18 hotel floors), unrehearsed and undirected, and sing the anthem around 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. in the evening. It's a tradition that dates back to at least the early 1990s. Kentucky is known for its incredible musicians, race horses, Bourbon, and, of course, KFC. It is my home state, and I'm incredibly proud of the students that do this each year. Welcome to America! I hope you'll come to Kentucky soon.

It’s an event held every year in Kentucky. High school choir’s… most floors are singing. Everyone singing. The choir you hear. Is all the kids singing together standing outside their rooms.

My daughter was part of this when she was in high school. She was in the Kentucky All State Orchestra-she is a bassoon player. Every year, the very best high school musicians and singers are chosen to go to a kind of musical boot camp. On the last day, there is a concert, and it is just amazing. The very first year that this performance happened, it was very organic. Just a bunch of the kids out in the hallway started singing, and it has blossomed from there. There are two hotels in downtown Louisville where all the kids are housed. The one with all of the musicians is quite noisy. There are mini concerts in the elevators! These kids are SO talented.

This is the All State choir in Kentucky and all of the people there are high school students who had to audition to get in so they’re the best in their state. I believe every state has an All State choir, concert band, and orchestra and their work culminates to a few days of rehearsal together and then a performance.

Kentucky is not a “dry” state. They actually have drive through alcohol sales stores. This was in Louisville, Kentucky for annual state High School Chorus competition. They were not at the bottom but on every floor singing from the balcony.

Not a competition. It is the Kentucky Music Educators All State Choir. It is more of a convention or a musical boot camp for the students. The very best high school singers and musicians audition each year to earn a place in the choir, orchestra and concert band. My daughter played bassoon and made All State Band and Orchestra all four years of high school. She was only the second student in the history of her school to make it in as a freshman. The choir stays at this hotel-The Hyatt Regency, and the musicians are housed in the Galt House. It is four days of nothing but music in both of these locations. Kentucky has a LOT musical talent.

I live near Downtown Louisville next door to the Ky Derby, Churchill Downs. Only certain counties are dry. Louisville isnt dry. The KY State Choir IMHO is the best in the US. I was part of this in the 1990s. How as teenager's can they sound this great with no direction is amazing. Being an American is a beautiful thing. Good luck in Florida. This is an annual event in Probably Lexington Kentucky. These are top-rated high school choirs which compete for honors state wide. The highest rated gather in Lexington and are accomodated in this great hotel.

I was delivering a catering order to a hotel guest and was getting ready to leave. It was an amazing thing to see. Every single floor had people singing. Makes you proud for them and are Co Country

I have heard that this particular hotel is a destination for many music groups and they all do a performance because the acoustics are out of this world. I don't know this to be 100% gospel truth, but this is what I have heard.

in dry states, it's usually the county that regulates alcohol. It's easy to find county maps for those states to find out the laws in that particular county

It's bourbon not whisky. If you do come to Kentucky, you need to do the Bourbon Trail. Some counties are still dry, some are moist.😉

No matter where the National Anthem is sung it bring tears to my eyes. Sometimes I just all out bawl. My heart breaks for those who don't understand the Anthem. Kyntucky as in the majority of the US leaves it up to the counties to decide by votes whether the county is dry or not. If a county is dry the next one over is not. I live in Tennessee, the home of Jack Daniels, but have many relatives in KY. Have gone hunting for liquor in KY a few times to escape the huge family reunion there.

Kentucky is not a dry state. There are some dry countries and towns but there's always a wet county nearby lol. I'd like to put in a suggestion for visiting Northern Kentucky if you make it up this far. Beautiful area and on the Ohio and Indiana border so you can knock out 3 states within an hour. The Greater Cincinnati area has some great breweries and bourbon distilleries in Northern KY, and it's got a great river culture. And if you make it up I'd love to say "Hey, Y'all" 😊
