As a retired firefighter in the USA, I will add this. In the USA, every labor day, Firefighters across the US and Canada go to the streets to ask for money to donate to the fight for muscular dystrophy. It's called "Fill the Boot". A firefighters boot is held out so money can be deposited in it to be counted and turned in later. During my career of 33 years, I can tell you that the people who look like they need every cent that they have, always empty their pockets, car consoles, or any other place they collect money, and throw it in the boot. And any car that is definitely a car of the upper class, keeps their window closed and look straight ahead to avoid eye contact! And then drive away without offering up a cent. Everyday people take care of their own.
@rhiahlMT Жыл бұрын
I did a lot of charity work with animals. Our local shelter etc., we typically saw the opposite. It's those that are better off that donate and those in the lower income class not so much. But, I understand that. I don't want anyone donating if they cannot do it. I'll donate to most kids charities also. I'm retired, fixed income so I'm more careful these days. I will always give to the local kid's charities and we have some good ones here.

Craziest thing is that Oliver Anthony is the first person to achieve such a feat with no promotion or previous work. This song, borne of a bout with depression (Anthony's own words), is a once-in-a-lifetime anthem for not just us here in America, but around the world who are going through the same thing we are.

It truly amazes me how few people understand just how much taxes they actually pay. No disrespect intended. It's not just income tax or sales tax. The cost of every single good you purchase has a multiplier effect of taxes upon it BEFORE you make a purchase. Meaning that the govt takes a piece of the pie at EVERY stage of production and transport of every item/component that goes into a finished product as it passes hands. Even the simplest of product to produce (for example a box of cheap wooden matches). Each step along the way from timber rights being purchased to the company that cuts down trees, transportation to get the trees to a sawmill company, etc. Each step along the way govt gets their taxes. Inevitably the taxes affect the final cost of the goods as each company has to operate at a profit. So yeah, the cost you pay for ANYTHING has its final cost impacted by taxes & it is represented in the price sticker you have to pay at the checkout register at Walmart. People & companies not need to pay more in taxes AND rich ppl do NOT need to give up their earnings to solve the problems of the poor, needy or those children that cannot get a good education. What needs to happen in the USA? WE THE PEOPLE have to hold our GOVT ACCOUNTABLE for the extreme amount of money they TAKE from us & how it is spent. The waste & misuse & corruption of those dollars is beyond our comprehension as well as to the extent of it. Term limits and the ending of all PAC contributions & lobbying is needed to regain any semblance of accountability of politicians to their constituents.
@weldonbailey100529 күн бұрын
The Dem Party had over a billion dollars in contributions to Kamala Harris campaign for election as President. They spent all of that plus went into debt with their spending. Let that sink in for a minute. Luckily, the majority voted and spoke with a resounding rejection of the leftist woke socialist Dem agenda. There is HOPE for 2025 with a new administration that will restart efforts to truly drain the swamp in Washington DC and hold accountable the govt bureaucracy & the swamp creatures festering both sides of the political aisle. They need prayers & support of all Americans in this quest & we ALL need to hold them accountable in getting this work done for the good of ALL citizens...party allegiances be damned.

The rich have been stealing from the lower and middle class in America for decades. Ever since the decline of the labor movement. No more pensions, expensive medical care, laying off tons of workers even though they are making a profit because their already-rich shareholders want even more of a return, it never ends. The greedy always want more. They are sick. "For the love of money is the root of all evil..." But the worst thing about it is the lies that some people believe and keep electing the same people. The lies that immigrants, or poor people, are the reason they are doing worse. When in reality it is the laws and loopholes that the billionaires pay lobbyists to bribe politicians to enact. When a large corporation loses too much money the government gives them taxpayer money but when the taxpayers lose too much money we are on our own. Tax the billionaires, regulate corporations, go to single payer healthcare, and give us back our money and our quality of life. On one side you have Jeff Bezos wanting to build rocket ships and on the other side you have hundreds of millions of hard-working Americans who want nothing more than a decent life.

BTW, I'm from America and I share all the same feelings as the others who've reacted to it. And, as said elsewhere, Richmond is a city in Virginia, just south of Washington, D.C. ... the source of political power in the States ... where the White House (and the President lives) and Congress are located, as well as where ALL politicians make/pass laws that "Control" the rest of the country to a great extent. It's conserved :"The Seat Of Power", as London is to the U.K.

Which one of y’all wanna give ‘em the run down on Oliver? Let’s see, before this video came out, he’d never properly recorded anything ever, outside of his using a crappy phone. He never had an intention to “be a singer” in the way one who does, usually seeks fame and fortune. He was frustrated, 30 days sober from alcohol and just frustrated with the state of things here in America, and in the greater world at large. A man who was his friend and also worked on a channel for KZbin out of Virginia, showcases local Virginian/Appalachian musicians. He approached Anthony wanting to showcase him as well, and feeling like there was something special about Oliver. Made this video in his backyard, put it out, and no kidding, the views were in the millions within days. Oliver, whose real name is Chris (Oliver was his grandpas name so he uses it in honor of him) said he hoped maybe a few thousand would hear his song. He and we could never envision his stratospheric rise, in 5 days. He’s been on Joe rogan since and that was his introduction to the world . He’s married with children and a pregnant wife. About three days after it came out, he did a show at a farmers market, where just the week before 10-20 people came to see him. After the song, thousands came out, he put on a free show.he’s turned down every record/hollyweird offer. It wasnt about the money, but thanks to that initial friend with the Virginia channel, he made bank. It was such a moment being in the zeitgeist watching this all go down. The world watched. The world cried. And here we are.

Beesleys, Timestamp 3:48-3:55, THAT'S the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution. If ever you come here, you need to get accustomed to it because REAL free speech becomes extremely heated and contentious sometimes. When we say there is free speech in America, we mean it, and we'll enforce it at the end of a gun barrel if necessary. He's just an impoverished peon from backwoods nowhere USA with a voice but if the Government went after him and people like him, that Government will be confronted with an army over 100MM strong with better firearms and more ammunition than our military has. If they didn't, you wouldn't have people like this speaking truth to power. And this is why we say, the 2nd Amendment defends the 1st Amendment.

Ooohwee Mrs Beesleys fired up and I like it. I'm guessing Mr. Beesley loses any and every argument.

I genuinely love your optimism, and yes, there are many problems we could ameliorate, but rich people simply dumping money at social issues -- whether voluntarily or through taxation -- is not the cure-all that we all like to think.

Please check out his videos introducing himself to the world. Also, “I want to home” was released a couple of weeks after this song. It perfectly explains why he turned down millions. I’ve enjoyed watching people from around the world react to this video. Mr. Anthony (his grandfather’s name) has also just released a list of concerts he’ll be giving around the US AND around the world. I’m going to catch the one in Buford, GA😊👍
