Washingtonian here! Leavenworth has always been my favorite place in the world. I feel so spoiled having grown up visiting! Even though I wish the secret would stay with locals, it’s truly wonderful anytime of year. Beautiful in the spring, fun camping and hiking in summer, Octoberfest and wine tasting in the fall, and then Christmas and winter are magical! ❤

We always did that too! ( Sometimes later!) An interesting aside; my late mother-in-law would decorate her tree ONCE, and then after Christmas, she would cover the still decorated tree, top and bottom, in large plastic lawn bags and have her son bring it down to the basement until the next year. The day after Thanksgiving, he would bring the tree back up, take off the bags, and voila! A fully decorated tree that only needed to be plugged in. 😊 Merry Christmas Everyone! 🎅

A big part of Christmas lights on a lot of these houses is that it makes the house look like it’s made of light. Like a giant toy. I can understand thinking things look overdone or just too much, but it might just be an American thing.

I've always put my tree up the day after Thanksgiving and the other decorations that same weekend. Then take everything down on New Year's day. I agree with Millie, however, that you should decorate whenever you feel like it!

Americans LOVE our LIGHTS . Tree goes up when u want but most people I know put it up Thanksgiving or day after. I live alone and haven’t liked Thanksgiving since I was a kid so I do Christmas decorations before it. Love Solvang, California stopped there twice when I was a kid with my parents and it was so magical. There’s never to many lights (only time it bothers me is strobe lights-migraine suffer). Live in Missouri and Brandon at Christmas is wonderful.

In the US, the tree traditionally goes up after Thanksgiving. However, I like to put mine up in mid November. I tell people I am capable of being merry, while also being thankful! It seems that millennials, and younger are pushing the traditions, and decorating early. St. Augustine, FL is my favorite Christmas town. It’s the oldest town in the US, and is adorable. It is northern Florida, so it gets chilly, but it’s still very comfortable to walk around. My husband and I are back in Texas, but lived in St. Augustine for a few years. Nights of Lights are so fun!

i have no objections to people getting an early start on putting up decorations and lights but would prefer they do not turn them on (except to test that they work of course) prior to Thanksgiving night. the reason is that the season loses its meaning when it goes on and on for 3, 4, 5 months.

@@marksmith4892Most of the Christmas celebrations, such as feasting, gift giving, and carolling are all based upon the Roman pagan holiday of Saturnalia.

@marksmith4892 10 ай бұрын
@@davidcosta2244 thanks for the partial lies-by-omission history lesson there dave but the truth is christianity subsumed the holiday and turned it into a celebration of the birth of christ in the same way that christianity has taken numerous elements of society and turned them inside out from evil to good. john wesley for example took bar room songs, turned them into hymns. But in any event all i meant by my comment is that the whole christmas season is a period of reflection and renewal and if you're spending half the dang year reflecting and renewing then there's no longer a point of having such a period in the first place. you seriously gonna dispute that??

@@marksmith4892 I think that the lights, and display lighting should be up to whoever put it up. Holidays are wonderful for many, but really difficult for others. If seeing the lights helps to uplift someone, or bring a smile to a child’s face, then I’m all for it. I light my tree mid November. That is also when my entryway is decorated. So, my little outdoor tree goes up, along with my wreath, poinsettias, and holiday doormat. I wait to turn the house lights on, until Thanksgiving evening. It’s early for plenty of people, but I love it.

My tree and decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving. I prefer to do it earlier before it gets too cold and/or snows. I've had years where there was bad weather and decorating was brutal. This year it was like 60 degrees when I did it and that made it so much easier. I also began putting my stuff up earlier when my previous dog got sick. He *loved* when the Christmas tree was up because he'd like to lay under it, so when he got sick I put it up earlier so he was able to enjoy his last time under it before he passed less than 2 weeks before Christmas. I'm so glad I did that so he could have that moment. So from now on I put everything up the day after Thanksgiving and take them down about a week into the New Year.

As for when to put the tree up, many of us do it Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday in November, so that Friday through Sunday, a lot of people have started and finished with all of their decorations, not just the tree. A lot of people leave them up until New Year's Day, while some take theirs down a couple of days after Christmas. I tried to get mine up at that time this year, but scheduling and an ear ache didn't allow, so I had to wait a little over a week. I'm like Millie when it comes to the tree (and decorations) making me happy. It took some people to get used to it, but I leave my tree (not the outside lights) up until at least January 12th. The reason is because my mom absolutely loved holidays and birthdays, especially Christmas, and when she passed away twenty years ago, I went into a major depression, and still have my bad days. I had a hard time during our first Christmas without her and dreaded putting up the tree because she wasn't here, but I also wanted to continue on. When I finished decorating the tree, I felt better and each time I'd look at it, I felt less depressed. This is why I keep it up for so long, because it still brings me peace and happiness going into the new year, and on my birthday, January 10th.

I figured by now ou would understand that it's America so we're going to do everything to the fullest extent we possibly can and if that means more lights well ok. Does it make people smile? That's what matters. Most everyone I know does not start decorating for Christmas until the day after Thanksgiving. There are some exceptions to that rule because again, it's America! Do your own thing! In the architecture of that last town is more Bavarian Alps or Swiss chalets. They do share woodwork on the outside like the Tudor houses.

The gilded age was during the 1920s I think. It was characterized by absolute opulence with crazy amounts of gold and silver and a Roman style revival. It was a time of great industrial change as everything was starting to be mechanized. Basically the rich got richer and the poor became poorer. The Vanderbilts were railroad magnates in the north that built a huge railroad empire and they created a massive mansion with several hundred acres of land in the middle of the forest. It is a masterpiece of gilded age architecture and it’s all quite practical as the home has a fairly small footprint for a mansion yet is surrounded by some of the best gardens and forest of the northeast.

We in America have had phenomenal Christmases for generations. So ours may seemed advanced looks and lightning. I see how it may be a bit much. Not seeing how have changed to beautiful decorating with lesser lights to more over time. Good video guys.✨️🌟

My tree goes up right after Halloween. The lights make me happy so I don’t really care about anyone else’s opinion. My turkey taste just as good with the tree up. 😊
