Pre-School teachers were greatly appreciated by me. North Carolina here. My kids are all grown now. Blue collar Dad, I had to keep working to pay the bills. My youngest daughter was pretty sharp and her pre-school teacher was amazing! She was basically ready for second grade when she entered first grade. My daughter and I got lucky that we got that one!

Recently started moving into my new home in WV; my family and I stayed in the house for about a week before returning to our house in NY to pack up some more things. We had left food, clothes, some money (not a lot), a couple of cots, and sleeping bags (that are good up to -30C). We returned 2 weeks later to find that our house had been broken into (lock was busted and items were out of place) and not one thing had been stolen or damaged. Apparently it's fairly common for homeless people to break into abandoned houses (which our house had been for nearly a year b4 we bought it) to try and stay fairly warm when it gets very cold. Being from NY it blows my mind that whoever was there didn't take any of our winter clothes, a sleeping bag, or any money when they left. They had even washed a bowl of ours they had eaten out of. WV people, including their criminals are just different.

I’m from Michigan. You should visit here. Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula are absolutely beautiful, with low populations. Not including our Great Lakes, we have thousands of inland lakes. We’re a wonderful place for sportsmen - fishing, hunting, skiing, snowmobiling, off road traveling, etc. The only drawback I find is Detroit - the traffic is horrendous.

Interesting video. As a former Minnesotan for many decades, there are brief periods of brutal cold during the loooong winters (we're a hardy breed who know how to accommodate those conditions!). By contrast, summers can be the other extreme with temps in the 90s and high humidity. MN frequently ranks highly for its healthcare and hospitals, quality of living, education, etc. As for the reference to 'recreation,' given the weather extremes, the abundance of lakes (11,000+) and rivers, lots of activities involve water in some form. Northern MN is indistinguishable from the rugged parts of Canada while southern MN is quite flat with lots of farmland. Currently reside in Southern CA.

Love MN! Also live in CA, just visit family when we can. Big Scandinavian heritage, which leads to interesting things like lots of co-ops and unions. Native American cultural awareness and support is I think better (can’t be perfect) than some more of the red states surrounding. Just a great state full of tough folks often dealing with the harsh climate, and too busy with that to be mean to neighbors. “Minnesota nice” is a real thing. Large Hmong community welcomed in back in the day as well. Lotta good stuff going on in MN.

As for people moving to Texas, it's a WIDE variety of reasons. Many I have spoken to, even some from across the pond(Brits) move here for the spacious living, decent pricing, fair amount of land, courteous people & great business starting opportunities. For example if it were you & millie, you could obtain a Texas DBA for $16 US & start your own business(if you were going to start a small business that is.)

But our cost of living is low. We also have one of the largest ship yards in the country and the second largest refinery in the country. About half of those ships you were so impressed with in the military video were built here. Also, if you want a job you can find one. The 6 coastal counties have more industry that the rest of the state. The gaming industry is growing every year and the supporting businesses for it and the casinos employ people from Louisiana and Alabama. Wine tasting is just a benefit of living in this amazing state. Not every place has been touristy forever. Bodgea Bay is now touristy, but it wasn't always this way-and still is worth a visit. I've done many touristy things in my life and I wouldn't change it. It's really a marvelous thing to ride a cable car, drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, visit Alcatraz, go to Disneyland, see Hollywood for what it really looks like, visit Joshua Tree, etc.. Lake Tahoe and Yosemite are gorgeous and also touristy. I would just say soak everything in. No matter what you do. There is no place in California that is not untouched by tourism. Cheers

California has the best Mexican restaurant in the country--the El Adobe Cafe in San Juan Capistrano. It also has the best green chile burger at Captain Jack's Stronghold in Tule Lake. However, the green chile burger at the Owl Cafe in San Antonio, NM gives it strong competition.

Not only have I hit a deer, been a passenger when we hit a deer, seen deer get hit by other vehicles, but I've had a deer run into the rear side panel of the car. I obviously live in Pennsylvania.
@CaptainFrost32
@CaptainFrost32 2 жыл бұрын
Hitting a deer is a rite of passage in Pennsylvania. When I learned to drive, one of the tips was that if no one else would be impacted [pedestrians, other vehicles], it was better to hit the deer than to swerve away. Lower deductible, less damage to property, and more merciful to the deer. when I was in high school, my mother had a deer that jumped across the road and rammed the car then went up the hill into the woods. She managed to nurse the car to a bar just down the road. She asked to use the phone, and while she recounted the details, some of the patrons quietly left and went after the deer in the woods. [Venison is good eating...] When she finished the call, she found she was alone with the bartender. A few parts from the store, car was back in good order.

@@CaptainFrost32 I was taught the same thing (hit the deer and don't swerve into oncoming traffic, etc.) And yes, as long as the deer we hit wasn't mangled too badly, we'd take it home and butcher it. I'm not a fan of venison (tastes like liver to me) but my husband loves it. My argument always was that if I'm not eating it, I shouldn't have to help butcher it. Never works...

The best one I've had is one time a couple deer were in the road up ahead so me and another car slowed down well ahead of time. Well, lil' Miss behind wasn't having any of that and ripped around us on the shoulder, got spooked when she saw the deer, and drove straight down into the ditch. It was glorious. We stopped. Made sure she was still alive. Laughed heartily. And, then, left - because fuck her.

I am an Oregonian and I agree our state is wonderful, I don't think we don't have issues though. But I think our issues are common ones that other states deal with like homelessness and poverty (our housing is booming, my home has gone up $150,000 since we bought it 5 years ago). But I think one issue that Oregonian (but it also includes those from Washington as well) is we have a thing call the "Seattle Freeze" which generally means we don't make new friends easily. I mean we are friendly towards strangers and such, but making deep meaningful connections is HARD here. Essentially we have small town distrust of strangers in city settings. Researchers blame our weather (its similar to England's from what I've been told, I've only been to mainland Europe) because of the more rain and more cloud coverage than other states we basically use our time to get to point A to B instead of standing on the sidewalk gabbing, and we just rely on introversion and our small social circles. But not everyone is like this. Just enough for this to be named and have official research done on it.

California may have air polluton in some places but we also has Yosemite and the Redwoods and the Pacific Coast Highway and some of the best coastine in the country! Also we do a lot to try to combat the air pollution. The reason gas is over about $2 more per gallon in CA then elsewhere in the US is because here additives are required by law to be added to the gas to reduce emissions.

Hey there! I’ve moved to Delaware from Pennsylvania. Our property and school taxes are very low here and there’s no sales tax. We have some really nice beaches and state parks. We’re also known for birding and birders…not to mention the horseshoe crab sanctuaries. Coming from a metropolitan area, it does seem a little slow here, but it’s nice when you get used to it. We have only three counties here: New Castle, Kent, and Sussex (sound familiar?). I’m in Sussex and it’s commonly referred to as Slower, Lower Delaware.

As someone who lives in Pennsylvania the deer 🦌 to car ratio is about 2 to 1 for every two cars 1 has hit a deer. It’s terrible. I was hit by a deer. He tried to jump over my car. Did a couple thousand dollars in damage. Shook it off and went on his way.
@CaptainFrost32
@CaptainFrost32 2 жыл бұрын
Did you brake or hit the gas? I used to drive a Chevy Impala. When you slam the brakes, the front end lowers and the risk of the antlers and body mass of the deer is more likely to smash through the windshield. If the only thing being hit is the deer, hitting the gas puts inertia in your favor. I hit one and the deer busted one headlight and flew over my hood and roof, then tumbled to the ground out of the lane of traffic. I brought the car under control, pulled off the road with the engine running. No flashlight, only the shake-and-break chem sticks left from Halloween. Before I reached the deer, a station wagon with hunters pulled over and heard my tale. The deer was better than anything they had scoped all day, and they claimed it with their tags. A local patrol car showed up, assessed the situation, let them clean up instead of him. The deer had no bone breaks, just a heart attack.

I'm older and have always lived in Pennsylvania, I've had a deer jump off an embankment into my back tire, two deer jump over my car at 1 o'clock in the afternoon, and have had several that stood still ON the road while I drove by. When I was a teen, I a hit a pony while driving on a back road in the middle of the night (just ended up pushing it along from the back of it before I got stopped--it was okay). The most recent thing I hit (just bumped) was a black bear. I live near and drive on a major trucking route and see frequent "deer smears"--so disturbing, but at least they don't suffer. I'm guessing "treats their elders the worst" is neglect, or stealing their money, or maybe the number of old people who die alone in their homes and aren't discovered until two years later. Yeah, I'd be curious to know, too, how they came up with that statistic....

Plus we are home to NIH and all the bio-medical jobs that feed off that agency. Scientists and doctors make a lot of money.

Pennsylvania between Allentown and Lancaster to be specific Kinzer PA have been here for 2 years. I own a house in the city of Allentown PA but spend most of my time in my 32ft camper at a campground in Kinzer. I love trains and Strausburg railroad is 10 minutes from my camper. Lots of steam trains it also has the USAs only Thomas the tank engine that is a real running steam locomotive and pulls its own train. But beautiful country side. Especially in the fall. Downfall with most of PA is pot holes. Pot hole and potholes. And road work. I was a professional traffic controller for 15 years they roads suck. Lol but down in Kinzer (Lancaster County) there's horse poop. Amish horse poop all over the roads and parking lots. Great when it rains and its becomes runny. But i love it here. And history. Philadelphia's only about an hour drive from atown and Kinzer. I love history and just driving any direction both places for like 15 20minutes you'll see (and can drive through) covered bridges and barns from the 17 and 1800s. Lots and lots of american history in eastern pa.
