And he had the nerve to glorifie his own State, describing a California that existed 30 years ago Instead of the shit hole it is today where a countless number of Homeless people shoot- up while out in the open and they shit up and down the streets. Its so bad that they have a phone number for people to call when a pooper scooper is needed to cleanup human feces. Not from Rhode Island, but I lived there for some time. Honestly, it's a pretty great state. It's nickname is "the ocean state" and most people live within a short drive to the coast. There's Newport, which is a fantastic small town right on the coast, in fact it's the final resting place of the HMS Endeavor (Captain Cook's ship). Newport has some of the largest mansions in the country, think Great Gatsby style from the gilded age. Providence is the biggest "city" but it feels more like a large town. A huge foodie city, they hold their weight against much larger in population. Some of the best Korean food on the east coast, good authentic Mexican (not texmex), world class seafood, grossly underrated pizza, and much much more. If you're ever traveling through New England, it's worth a full day visit.

Going to Rocky Mountain NP (which I highly recommend) would pretty much add another day to be able to see anything there. Jackson Hole, WY is less than two hours from the south entrance to Yellowstone, and you can take in views of the Grand Tetons immediately after getting off the plane. Just sayin'.

@@johnalden5821 I agree with John there. Yellowstone is a full day's drive from RM natl park. But having 2 weeks would allow a few days in RM natl park, a week in Yellowstone/Jackson Hole, then a few days in Glacier NP. Another long drive away from Yellowstone. The easiest (most expensive flight) if to fly to Jackson Hole. But you may regret not seeing the other two.

Few facts about RI from someone from there: 1. Until 2020, we had the longest name out of any state, “The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.” The last part was gotten rid of due to plantations now having a meaning tied to slavery, but in the English used by its founder, it just meant village or town and the founder was actually not a big fan of permanent slavery (he tolerated POW’s being used as slaves for up to 10 years but disliked every other form, especially enslaving children) 2. Relating to 1, Rhode Island is the name of an island in Narragansett Bay, which is a bay that the state is situated around. Rhode Island is called Aquidneck Island (or just Aquidneck) by the locals and has about 70,000 people living on it. Providence Plantations was supposed to refer to the rest of the state, since the state was originally a union between Providence Plantations and Rhode Island. 3. The founder of the state is Roger Williams, and he is well-liked for being a 400-year-old colonist. He’s mainly liked because he was devoted to not taking Native land through anything but purchase from whatever tribe happened to live there (a main reason to RI being small) and because he was a powerful advocate for separating church and state. 4. As said above, Williams was heavy on separating church and state. When he founded RI, he and his followers decided that religion was something that would be personal and therefore not a part of the government beyond the church itself. This happened in 1636, making Rhode Island the first place in modern times across the whole planet to have a secular government and was also the motivation for the Founding Fathers creating the 1st Amendment of the Constitution, which guarantees freedom of religion, conscience, and separation of church and state, among many other privileges, for all Americans. 5. There are a lot of historical sites here, such as the resting place for the HMS Endeavor (Captain Cook’s ship that he used when sailing to Australia and New Zealand) and HMS Gaspee (more of just an RI thing, but we burnt it down in an event leading up to the revolution and still hold mock burnings and parades for it in June), as well as the oldest Jewish Synagogue in North America.

This video is a more shallow look at most states. One nice thing about a comment section is we can share a bunch more about our own states that maybe other Americans didn't know about. I currently live in Ossipee, New Hampshire, and on all of the "welcome to Ossipee, New Hampshire" signs it also says "home of the first snow mobile." Historically New Hampshire has always been more proud than reasonable about being first at things, like being the first to sign the declaration of independence, after being the first state to declare independence, because Congress was taking too long to make the decision. More recently New Hampshire invented paintball, and we still do the old-school "outdoor" style the best. "Outdoor" meaning we favor a variety of woods and ply-wood courses, with camo being popular as apposed to colorful team uniforms and inflatable generic shapes for cover; we call that more modern style "speedball" and it's available, but not as popular. We can also be borderline obsessive about freedom in a way where we tend to be socially liberal, and fiscally conservative, which is closer to what the term "liberal" means in the UK, or "Libertarian," in the U.S., although we seldom elect Libertarians, because the candidates themselves are often uncomfortably weird (like stoner/pedo vibes). The state motto is "Live Free or Die;" we have no state sales tax or income tax; there's no legal requirement to wear a seatbelt if you are over 18 years old; that sort of thing.

In defense of Rhode island, it has beautiful beaches and great seafood like in Port Judith. In Newport, the "summer cottages" of the Golden Age line the beach and the Tennis Hall of Fame is there, too. Vermont is still a beautiful, rural wonderland but very forward thinking. Many towns, schools, businesses have their own solar arrays, and organic farming is growing exponentially. Great farm to table restaurants all over the state, with an extensive fine art and craft culture, great music venues, especially in summer, again statewide but all while maintaining that quaint New England vibe. Plus skiing, snowboarding, all manner of snow sports in winter. Should add Vermont to your list. I lived there for nearly 30 years and do miss it's cozy kind of beauty, ablaze with color during autumn "foliage season" and even the deep, muddy ruts of "mud season".
