Yeah that was weird. Orlando did go through a giant boom because of Disney, but he is waaaay off lol. I'm wondering if he's confusing the creation of Bay Lake and Lake Buena Vista with Orlando.

Technically speaking, Disney World is it's own city with it's own residents; It is a self-regulating municipality within a special district and it has it's own government. The Florida Legislature granted unilateral control over the land owned by Disney World. The land it is on 27,000 acres that was purchased from Orlando in 1965.

Not from Rhode Island, but I lived there for some time. Honestly, it's a pretty great state. It's nickname is "the ocean state" and most people live within a short drive to the coast. There's Newport, which is a fantastic small town right on the coast, in fact it's the final resting place of the HMS Endeavor (Captain Cook's ship). Newport has some of the largest mansions in the country, think Great Gatsby style from the gilded age. Providence is the biggest "city" but it feels more like a large town. A huge foodie city, they hold their weight against much larger in population. Some of the best Korean food on the east coast, good authentic Mexican (not texmex), world class seafood, grossly underrated pizza, and much much more. If you're ever traveling through New England, it's worth a full day visit.

So this video was mostly based on stereotypes and his satirical opinions on the states, but I have to say he really, REALLY gave off the wrong vibe with Michigan. There is so much more going on here than a bankruptcy that happened almost a decade ago now. We are the home of the American automobile, cereal, have the most lighthouses, have the second longest coastline other than Alaska, have 2 entirely separate landmasses, the longest suspension bridge in the western hemisphere, have an island that looks like a meteor, the Great Lakes, Sleeping Bear Dunes, waterfalls galore, beautiful autumn leaves, and so much more. Where I live for example, I could feasibly visit 3 Great Lakes in a single day!

This video is a more shallow look at most states. One nice thing about a comment section is we can share a bunch more about our own states that maybe other Americans didn't know about. I currently live in Ossipee, New Hampshire, and on all of the "welcome to Ossipee, New Hampshire" signs it also says "home of the first snow mobile." Historically New Hampshire has always been more proud than reasonable about being first at things, like being the first to sign the declaration of independence, after being the first state to declare independence, because Congress was taking too long to make the decision. More recently New Hampshire invented paintball, and we still do the old-school "outdoor" style the best. "Outdoor" meaning we favor a variety of woods and ply-wood courses, with camo being popular as apposed to colorful team uniforms and inflatable generic shapes for cover; we call that more modern style "speedball" and it's available, but not as popular. We can also be borderline obsessive about freedom in a way where we tend to be socially liberal, and fiscally conservative, which is closer to what the term "liberal" means in the UK, or "Libertarian," in the U.S., although we seldom elect Libertarians, because the candidates themselves are often uncomfortably weird (like stoner/pedo vibes). The state motto is "Live Free or Die;" we have no state sales tax or income tax; there's no legal requirement to wear a seatbelt if you are over 18 years old; that sort of thing.

When I joined the Air Force I took a sight seeing tour of Napa Valley with a friend. She was from Long Island and I was from Connecticut which is right next to NY. We were talking about the beautiful fall foliage we were missing when someone in the seat behind us leaned forward and said “New York doesn’t have trees”…we looked at her and said the state is very large with lots of farms and forests and even NY, NY has Central Park on Manhattan which is huge. We were rolling with laughter. That person actually thought all of NY was high rises. Assumptions should not be made unless you have been there.

I'm from Rhode Island originally. Though it's a small state and there isn't much that draws tourists in, there is something called WaterFire Providence. WaterFire is my favorite thing from my home state. They light small bonfires all down a river that goes around our state's capital city at night. It happens once a week every week for a large portion of the year. There is live music, street food vendors and amazing bars all along the river route. You can also get gondola rides on the river while the fires are lit. It's absolutely beautiful, but not many people know about it if you aren't from Rhode Island.

His one on Michigan does really tick me off. Its just so indicative of someone who has never visited. The truth is Detroit doesn't have anymore urban decay than Los Angeles or New York. YET because of the stereotype of Detroit in the media its constantly repeated. You two should find videos on Detroit. They filed bankruptcy but quickly got out of it and the city is really thriving. Its a shame a lot of the views on Detroit come from the fact that it was one of the largest African American cities in America and much of the bias against it is pure racism from the 1970s that most people dont even realize when they spew it today.

Just fair warning: GTS indicates that driving from Denver to Yellowstone is a 10.5 hour drive. That's close to a full day in the car, if you don't stop. Going to Rocky Mountain NP (which I highly recommend) would pretty much add another day to be able to see anything there. Jackson Hole, WY is less than two hours from the south entrance to Yellowstone, and you can take in views of the Grand Tetons immediately after getting off the plane. Just sayin'.

@@johnalden5821 I agree with John there. Yellowstone is a full day's drive from RM natl park. The highest point in Florida is the peak of Britton Hill, at 345 feet (105 meters). The lowest points, of course, are the ocean shorelines. Kansas, on the other hand, has its highest elevation at 4,039 feet (1,231 meters), and its lowest elevation at 679 feet (207 meters).
