Golden Girls was pretty similar. In the pilot they had a flamboyant Puerto Rican guy but Sofia was so funny that they ditched his character after the first episode. They did have a few episodes with wholesome messages but not many. Most were just meant to be funny. Each character was a lot different than the others and their chemistry is what made it funny.

They actually tried making a British version of this titled Married for Life, it lasted one 7-episode season. You can find clips from it online, though I haven't found a full episode. Only name in the cast I recongize is Rob Bryden, but I'm American so I don't know British TV personalities too well.

I remember an episode where Al noticed his car was nearing a million miles. His car was an early 1970s Dodge Dart. I believe Fox, who aired Married With Children initially, had a partnership with Daimler-Chrysler (Chrysler now aligned with Fiat). Chrysler offered Al to hit the 1,000,000 mile mark, and the Bundys would win a brand new Dodge Viper. It was called "Get Outta Dodge", and it was released in February of 1994.
@KamiNoBaka1 Жыл бұрын
Funny thing is his actual car seen in the show isn't a Dodge at all, it's a Plymouth Duster.
@theultrawarrior7448 Жыл бұрын
I remember every single episode by heart. I remember all falling asleep after staying up so long in his hand accidentally shifted to neutral in the car rolled out of the garage. Hey then said at the end that he was going to come back home until he hits another million, "and then the Viper will be mine! You hear me? Mine, mine, mine!"😅

At the time that "Married: With Children" was made, most American family sitcoms were the type where the father knew best, the mother was wholesome and loving, and the kids occasionally had problems but the family sorted things out by the end of each show. The most typical of these was "The Cosby Show", and "Married: With Children" was originally known as "Not The Cosbys" before it aired. This show was intended to not only be funny, but also to make fun of all those other shows. Also, Ed O'Neill has said that his portrayal of Al Bundy was based on one of his uncles, who was a judge. The way Ed described this uncle was as follows: "My uncle was, like, resigned; life was going to be bad. So it would be, like, he'd get home from work and he'd come in the house and my aunt (his wife) would say, 'Joe, I ran over the dog in the driveway and he's dead,' and Joe would say, 'What's for dinner?' So it was sort of like that."

the rumors that Ed and Amanda didn't get along behind the cameras is not true. the cast got along well and even years later had high praise for each other. Additionally, Amanda has be out as gay since she was a young woman, but played a hetro woman on the show so well, that nearly everyone thought she was just hetro.

Yes, Ed and Amanda did not get along at all. It really came to a head in Season 3, where they would avoid each other as much as possible.. And it actually got much worse later on in the series when Amanda would start directing some of the episodes. Also, there was bad blood with Ed because he was extremely supportive of Amanda when she came out as a lesbian, yet was never invited to her wedding. It was sadly a very ugly relationship, and they pretty much couldn't stand each other, much like Vivian Vance and William Frawley while doing i Love Lucy.
