My favorites are the women that bring their babies to the zoo and the chimps or orangutans notice it’s a baby and run to get theirs and bring it back to do show and tell

I worked at the Philadelphia Zoo for a couple of years. Watching kids with the animals was a fun way to spend the lunch hour.

I dated a Zookeeper once. She...was....WILD! I feel like the type of animals you want to take care of usually says a lot about your personality. She mainly looked after all of the birds.

When I was a kid, I had a bunch shirts with holes in them, because of baby goats in petting zoos. When I was a kid, we would go to, Lion Country Safari in Northern Palm Beach County, Fla. It is a campground, Zoo, with a drive-through zoo as well. At night you could hear the lions roar. My parents would tell me, "it's time for you to go in the camper and go to bed, or the lions will get you." I remember one time, we saw an elephant sit on the hood (bonnet) of a small, red, sports car.

It's wild to me that so many of the parents keep laughing when the animals lunge at the glass like, oh, it's playing! No, that's a predator seeing your annoying little kid as prey, Karen.

Grew up an hour away from the St. Louis Zoo. Think it may be one of the last zoos you can visit for free. Been there many times in my life. However my favorite zoo will always be the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. The encounters are amazing! My neice and nephews got to experience time with kangaroos, sloths, and lemurs. Vacation destination for us, but always a must visit. They even had a series about them called The Little Zoo that could. Talked about rebuilding after hurricanes. Chuckie the alligator was left behind when they evacuated the first time. Chuckie did his own thing and became a celebrity.

As much as I love seeing animals and the Zoo, I have a love/hate relationship with the whole concept of zoos. Dimitri Martin has a joke that says, "There's a fine line between having a pet, and having a hostage of another species." I feel that way with people who own birds and clip their wings....just seems cruel to me.

I was at the zoo as a youngster and saw a chain linked fence that had a gap at the gate wide enough to stick your arm through and touch the zebra right on the other side. So I stepped up on the curb and grabbed hold of a sign attached to the fence and stuck my arm through and pet the zebra. The zebra instantly turned around and bit my forearm hard. I couldn't yank away. I finally broke free and stepped down off the curb and checked for blood. I heard the zebra laugh at me so I looked up and noticed the words on the sign i was clinging to. DO NOT PET THE ZEBRA. lol and a smaller sign that said "I BITE" lol well now i know that you dont pet zebras and zebras bite and they also laugh at you after they bite you. lol

Zoos allowing people to get that close to camels are f-cking insane after one killed two men in Tennessee last year, one in Russia earlier this year and chewed off it's owners head in Rajasthan in February.
