In 48 Thanksgivings I've had pumpkin pie, pecan pie and the mud pie. I've also had corn bread, but that texture looked way off. Was that made with corn kernels? Cranberry jelly is usually available but it's not something I eat. Same with yams but not that combination. Everything else was new to me.

It's normally called corn cakes in the southern us. Recipes vary, but when i make it, i add creamed corn and yellow cake mix to corn bread mix. Makes it sweeter with corn bits.

🍗As an American, I can say that there is a wide variety of different foods in kitchens across America. I recognized only a couple of things on your table. However, most staples on just about everyone's table are Turkey w/Dressing (YUM), Mashed Potatoes w/Gravy, Green Bean Casserole (bcuz somebody needed to put something green on the table 😂), Candied Yams or Sweet Potato casserole, some kind of Fruit Salad (could be most anything w/jello, fruit, and maybe nuts, mixed in cool whip) that no one eats. Top it off w/Cranberry Sauce (small amount to compliment turkey & dressing), Deviled Eggs and Dinner Rolls (or some kind of bread). All this is followed by all kinds of cakes, pies, whatever your family faves are...but traditionally always has pumpkin pie w/whipped cream or sweet potato pie (for all the southerners). Yes, it's usually mostly traditional staples w/side dishes and individual recipes handed down from that particular family. Kudos to Sairs for the attempt! 👍🏼 Must have taken her all day!😎 Future note: U should have drained the can of yams, and looked like way too much soup w/green beans. It should be baked and more like a casserole, then topped w/french fried onions. Tasty! Thanksgiving is a great excuse to visit w/family & friends where everyone tries to come home no matter where you're living. We cook for days, make an enormous amount of food (embarrassing really) and we finally sit down together, give thanks for our bounty, and pack the feed bags on! 🤣 U know it's good because there is suddenly total silence while we stuff our faces, release our waist bands, and catch up, laughing, listening and carrying on the family holiday traditions. All this usually starts with the traditional Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV and football games in the background as we nod off into the 1st round of our food comas. After which we wake, have dessert and coffee.....and start all over again with round #2! Good thing it's only once a year, but it's a beautiful thing! 💝 And to the Morsia Family...u have an open invitation and are welcome at my table any time! ✈🤗🍗🍰💖🙋🏼‍♀️

My grandmother used to make a diced carrot and diced turnips mash type of dish, we still make it to this day for most holidays. I live in Vermont, so we use a lot of root vegetables throughout the winter. Our dessert today was a grapenut (type of cereal) custard (also an old fashioned type of dish). Homemade cranberry, orange and ginger relish.

American here! My guess is most of the “salads” came from the Midwest…those grannies love their jello. Banana dish was vintage. Not sure if the casserole dish was supposed to be green bean casserole…? But if it was, you gotta add the fried onions to get the full effect.

OMG I’ve been living in America for 24 years come this week Thursday and I’ve been to many different Thanksgiving dinners and thankfully none of them have ever included any of those jelly dishes. There has been pumpkin pie, pecan pie (my favourite), pumpkin trifle, apple pie, sweet potatoes with mini marshmallows baked on top, green bean casserole (with Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup), cranberry sauce and I’ve had cornbread before, but never with Thanksgiving dinner to my recollection. Some people make lasagna and macaroni cheese for the Thanksgiving feast along with the traditional turkey and ham. It was fun to see all of those retro meals and I can’t believe how much trouble you went to for dishes that are just going to end up in the bin!!

Sweet potato is cooked and then mashed, mixed with brown sugar then miniature marshmallows or pecans with brown sugar( or rice cereal) layered on top and baked for about 45 minutes. Corn bread has many variations just like turkey dressing/stuffing.

I'm American and I HAVE heard of all of these except the banana ham thing. Most of them DO NOT make it to the dinner table! lol. My hubby does love green bean casserole and pumpkin pie is a staple Thanksgiving dish! I make my own cranberry sauce with fresh cranberries and orange zest. It's way better than the canned and I also make my own yams - just roast in the oven and eat with butter and honey.

The pumpkin pie, cornbread, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, and Mississippi mud pie were the only things I recognized although the pecan tarts are probably similar to pecan pie. Green bean casserole is typically baked as others have mentioned. Not sure what the yam recipe was but sweet potato casserole is delicious. I'm with you on the canned cranberry sauce - not appetizing at all! Fresh/homemade cranberry sauce is much better! Thanks for being a good sport!
