andrew ravenrill I don’t understand how this relates to hostility towards other groups that are different from the majority. It’s not even about Islam it’s about something looking visibly foreign. Muslims are just the latest target, I’m not here to beg you to believe a Muslim when you have already written an entire group of people off. Let me remind you the action of a few is not an indicator of the many, it’s not logical for someone else to be held responsible for a crime not of their making. Don’t argue that there is this and that passage which is violent, the idiots that do violence do it regardless of religion. The holy books (Bible, Torah, Quran) are cool like that, you find what your heart is looking for wether that’s war or peace. I suggest you spend some time talking to people of the ‘other’ such as going to your local mosque and ask actual questions. Bring your bacon sandwich if you must, food is food.

The response to this video proves the women shown are right to fear for their livelihood. No one should be judged based on their religion or ancestry, and no one should be grouped together with terrorists or even the extreme followers of the religion because of this small similarity. Not all white Christians are Nazis or are members of the KKK just because those groups are also white and Christian, so I suggest everyone take a step back and put themselves in somebody else's shoes. And for those who share my viewpoint in this time of rising nationalism and racism: stay strong.
@blazednlovinit8 жыл бұрын
Nazis and Islamic terrorism is not really fair comparison Catherine. I challenge you to find a single Nazi who has caused a death in 2016. Nazis are gone, their ideology was defeated by our own ideology in the rest of the west. For the record I condemn the abuse of anybody, but I know why it is happening as well, people don't want to lose their culture, they are angry as they see their culture changing, a culture that has given the world much in the way of science and technology and spawned some of the nicest and most successful countries in the world.
@kategogan4958 жыл бұрын

There are 27 officially Muslim countries around the world; not counting the many more with Muslim majorities or large Muslim minorities that are not nominally Islamic countries. If the UK is not to your liking then please go to one of the 27+ countries that are culturally similar to your way of life. Don't come to the UK, refuse to change your cultural and social practices to those more in line with the ones already here, and then cry racism when people treat your community with suspicion. It's not a race issue either. There are plenty of other immigrant, non-native communities that have adapted, integrated and prospered here, but most Muslims have not. The onus is on you to reach out and integrate and make the difficult but liberalising changes to your culture just as the church has done in recent years.
@argh29454 жыл бұрын
lee sherbourne The thing is this country hasn't been a church going or very religious nation since around the Civil War. I can't find them now, but I remember coming across figures of church attendance in the 19th century. They were a fair bit under 50%. This also reminds me of something I read a while back the title of which I'm having trouble recalling. Anyways, it was a review/summary of Edward Gibbon's 'The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire'. An interesting point made was that Gibbon is very sardonic, and even at times scathing, in this treatment of Christianity in the book. The question asked was 'why and how could this be the case when Gibbon was himself a religious man?'. The answer given was that this was a phenomenon in British society at the time. Having gone through a century of conflicts in the 1600s which were very much religious in nature (Parliamentarians being Protestants for the most part and Royalist being Catholic), and then having gone through the upheavals of the Restoration and the Glorious Revolution, many were in a sense 'done' with religion but needed it nonetheless to provide a guide or framework for their lives. And so they remained religious in that they followed the precepts of Christ but kept out of, and even sneered at and disrespected, issues to do with bishops, priests, and the proselytising and politising of faith. Something Gibbon showcases. The author contended that this is a part of British society that has been enduring for the most part given that Britian has a state church and it's head of state is also the head of this church, and yet it has also been for a while and remains a very religiously tolerant, and even religiously 'unconcerned' so to speak, country. This feature remained for the most part amongst most people even despite the rise of Methodism or the Quakers. I brought this up because I think that might be one way to look at how to have a tolerant society with differing religions. This especially given the nearly exponential growth of the Muslim demographic. I think the model above points to personalising religion as much as possible and de-fanging clerics (imams) and institutions (mosques) as a way to keep it's more mob-like or political aspects at bay. We did it with Christianity, we have to try with Islam as well. Of course if we don't then we might end up having to relearn the lesson Gibbon's forbearers learnt through a century of conflict and upheaval, unfortunately.

Abayah is not mandatory nor is it enforced on women in Saudi Arabia. At least not now. You’re encouraged to dress more respectfully in order to adhere with the customs of the country, just like in every other country. You’re not forced to wear the hijab or abayah by law, you’re literally encouraged to dress more modestly. A non-muslim is not going to die if they do that. As an Asian American, I empathize with this. I grew up during the Vietnam War, kids called me "communist". It cut very deeply, I can remember a black man in a parking lot yelling to me, "go back to Vietnam". For years, I was angry about this, but times changed and frankly I rarely even think about appearing Asian, however much I am aware of my past. At the work place where people are desperate to make an earning these racist people abuse the situation even further, then people in uk ask why do Muslims not integrate? But how can we integrate when we do not get treated equally, like we are nothing some kind of animals or play things if you like. 100% of Muslims I know go through this mental and emotional torture. But of course I’m going to say as an open minded Muslim due to my religion I know that not all British white people are racist, some of the best people I know are British white people but what I’m trying to say is that let’s stop pretending that the British are oppressed when it’s not the case. it’s the British Muslims and Muslims all over the world that are being oppressed and murdered in the masses. Salaam (peace to you) good people all over the world Muslim or non Muslim
@argh29455 жыл бұрын
A lot of it has to do with the complete lack of integration from the Muslim community when compared to other 'non-native' communities. Most immigrant communities have adapted their social norms and values to suit British society. Most Muslim communities, on the other hand, have not. The onus is on the Muslim community to liberalise it's social and cultural norms not the other way round - i.e. for Islamic cultural norms to ever become a normalised part of British society. The best example of this liberalising would be the treatment of women; less forced marriages, less burqas and niqabs, no FGM. Also the treatment of homosexuals needs to change drastically. This is something that's an issue all over Western Europe at the moment. Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany among many more are having issues with Muslim communities in their countries. These are some of the most liberal and tolerant countries to have ever existed. These are also countries that have had immigrants settle and integrate successfully from non Muslim countries. As you can see this is not a peculiarly British form of 'racism', this is a peculiarly Islamic form of incompatibility.

I just returned from England - I was shocked to see parts of London and its Boroughs completely taken over by Muslims. My Yorkshire towns are being completely Islamified - Muslims population growth is 4x than the general non muslim population. COMPLETLEY SHOCKING - no integration and muslims do not like English values. Muslims have turned English towns into their parents home lands. !!! Now England has more muslims than the Scottish population. I am dismayed and shocked !!!

Why does the BBC not practice what it preaches. The BBC is full of Religious phobia. Look at how it attacks the Catholic church at every opportunity in fact every Christian church It has been inciting religious hatred for many years now. How can an organisation that is publicly funded get away with such prejudice. Be such a force for bad.

"60% increase in hate crimes" Yeah it went from 55 to 80, which given the size of the population is minuscule.
@rezachoudhury8237 жыл бұрын
In this current climate, it's unsurprising that Muslim hate has increased. But this is kinda exaggerated. This is coming from a Muslim who has lived in many places across the UK. And being worried about self identity is something that has always been the case, that has to be our responsibility as Muslims to learn to live with ourselves in any society peacefully.

Thanks, we try. We've bent over backwards a lot. We provide them with platforms and forums to voice their opinions (this documentary is but one example), we've also passed laws to prevent discrimination. We don't generally have any integration issues with most other immigrant communities, but this one. The same reality is being faced right by other European countries such as Sweden, Germany and France and so the same conversation are being had there too.

For example, why don't you make a video about Coptic Christians in Egypt? They are some of the closest descendants of the Ancient Egyptians and have been brutally attacked, killed in mass and have had their churches arsoned and bombed by Muslims. It's really hard to take "Islamophobia" serious when so much injustice goes on in the Muslim world at the hand of Muslims.

It's a country that pretty much allows you to dress or express yourself however you want... I've had similar "attacks" in my country, and it was just because I dressed differently, and my clothes were unusual. UK is not Islamophobic. Extremists exist in every religion. They take things out of context to further their own agendas. The many different mainstream news organisations give an unfair amount of coverage to those extremists who claim to represent Islam. I would implore you and anyone who is reading this reply to read the holy Quran, which is the last Testament sent down by God (Allah) to His last Messenger Muhammed (PBUH).

If a gang boss can't stop his gang-propaganda, and even doesn't give a try to be as low key as he could, he would disturb other's life or interrupt what others believe in just to make sure he can recruit new guys in his gang, sometimes he would kill those who don't join his gang or share the different believe about gang like he does. I think the police would try the best they could to send this guy into jail.

I am against intolerance and any kind of hostility towards Muslim women (or men), let alone violence. The people who do this are animals and no better than the Islamic fundamentalists they purport to hate . But unfortunately women's dress is a real problem. It separates them from the rest of society, and makes a barrier between them and other people. Hijab means one thing and one thing only to non-Muslims - misogyny. I appreciate the reasons women wear it, but a cultural thing, not religious.
@imogenhatch2765 жыл бұрын
But if let's say we're all forced to wear it (we're not) by our husbands and fathers how will shouting and terrorising the lady help her? That doesn't make sense. We're just easy targets for cowardly racists
