Here in India we learnt British english but everyone find it hard to understand British accent. Everyone here saw Sherlock Holmes with the subtitles on. American accent feels so natural easy to understand, that usually don't eat up the letters from a word. British accent seems like stylized english even though they came up with the language. Australian accent seems British accent of British accent and introduce some weird noises in between characters of certain words.

In terms of reading and writing, yes it is British English. But in terms of listening and speaking, we're more used to Indian English which is basically English with Indian language accents and pronunciations.

That's interesting because at work we will have phone meetings with different nationalities. Sometimes my Indian co-workers will ask me (an American) "What did X (someone from a non-English speaking country) just say?"
@jackricheie9683

@@jamieholtsclaw2305 Yeah most (english speaking) Indians are used to the american accent. It also has to do with the american substance that we consume. Hollywood popularity just keeps on growing everyday in India and american accents are the ones we are accustomed to listening to. I remember I used to watch so many american movies and tv shows without subtitles (forgot to turn them on cause I didn't even need them to understand) but as soon as I started watching "The King's Speech" or even the Bond movies, I needed the subtitles to understand fully what they were saying.

The British passed on these pronunciations to their colonies as well. As an Indian kid, I have genuinely written "choose day" instead of "Tuesday" when taking down a note for my dad. I simply thought that he wanted to decide when he wanted that task done 😂

American English more properly enunciates what is actually written in writing. I have noticed many people, particularly throughout the EU, have a difficult time understanding Brits in conversation due to the lack of pronouncing certain letters in various words.
@PristinePerceptions
@PristinePerceptions 10 ай бұрын
@@MightyFineMan Agreed. And it also goes the other way around, i.e if a word is pronounced differently, the spelling will change to account for it. For example, 'Initialize' is written with a 'z', because that's how it is pronounced. Similarly 'color' doesn't use the 'u'. Whatever effect the letter 'u' had on the pronunciation, it doesn't exist anymore.

It's an interesting thing that people in conversation are often itching for approval from the person they're speaking to. We'd substitute "...right?" or "...eh?" for "...innit?" where I'm from. In any event, it's unfortunate when people attempt to mock other people's figures of speech, really the whole video was a positively smashing display of logic in regard to pointing that out, and I dare say it's a lesson that I shall endeavor to uphold in any future parleys I might have with citizens of the British empire forthwith, notwithstanding the buggers who would seek to besmirch my honest attempts at repentance. Star normally Exactly, a large minnority of every community in Britain speak with an "RP English accent." For example, even in regions with extreme accents like Liverpool, there is the large community of Chester, where mostly people speak RP, this will also be the case at most universities. This is pretty neutral accent, which is the one that foreign people often Want to learn. Most people don't speak with these stereotypes

@@xIllMadeKnightx Do you mean a “city” in the UK other than London? Maybe it’s a difference in language patterns, but I don’t understand if your point is about a city or a country/region. Either was you sound like you have a lack of awareness because a lot of Americans are of Scottish descent and LICHERALLY hold Highland games events all over the country while somehow allegedly never having never heard of Scotland. Not only that but we also have some cities and States here with the same name as locations in the UK so that doesn’t make sense either. For example, Birmingham. I thought it was common knowledge it’s a city in England that we pronounce differently from the one here. New York. New Hampshire. Why would anyone ever call anything “new” unless they knew there was an old. By your logic, we’ve only heard of Paris as a city in France although we have a famous city named New Orleans.
