My hometown girl, Celine is so much more than Titanic. She's got such a big catalog of French and English songs and the show you see in New York is not the same as the one you'll see in Paris. The first show I saw, I was dragged there by friends...seriously Céline Dion? I was in for a surprise, she's a real entertainer, a real singer and way better live. She took singing lessons most of her life that's why she kept her voice in good shape. She often likes to sing covers during her show, Prince, Michael Jackson, Adele, AC/DC, the Beatles, jazz classic, Sinatra, Elvis, Jacques Brel, name it she can do it. Some people find her cheesy bc she's a bit over the top but that's completely her, she's a big heart and she gives herself massively. She fits Vegas like Elvis did. Love her ❤
@8rr725 Жыл бұрын
The only idiots who find her cheesy are the ones who don't like it when people react to their emotions the way she does. Especially in the US because most people here have to act tough and macho all the time and also have had horrible taste in music for decades. Mariah can't sing anymore, but all she has to do is a million runs and everybody loves her.
@tonyd33452 жыл бұрын
In 1990 a friend told me that Céline would never be as big or as great a singer as another artist who began her career around that time- Mariah. As good as she is, Mariah only dreams of being able to do this. You go Céline!

And in 1990’s Celine was and still bigger than Mariah
@briankocheraabcdt4628 Жыл бұрын
Folks you're comparing apples and oranges. Besides it's not a contest. Each, Céline and Mariah bring something different to the table. If you want to get technical about it, while Céline has a three octave range, Mariah has a five octave range meaning she has a four octave range her whistle register makes up the fifth.
@KingKull1971 Жыл бұрын
@@briankocheraabcdt4628Mariah can only sing pop. Celine sings all genres. Opera, Country, Blues, Reggae, RnB, Gospel, Celtic (if you count "My Heart Will Go On") You need to listen more.
@sebulbathx10 ай бұрын
@@briankocheraabcdt4628 The never ending story about octave range. I mean it don't really matter but more in how you use your voice and how it sounds. But also range don't tell anything about technique in general beside you can sing notes. I think as artists the comparison is fair since they are in the same music categories. But anyway it's a matter of what you like.

It is nice when someone who knows what they are talking about rates Celine Dion. When she is on, we are talking about one of the GOAT's...I know, she can be polarizing, sometimes cheesey song selection/production, but you are a zombie if you don't get chills when she cranks it to 11 on good material. No she's not Billie Holliday, but for Vegas, big production blues with great players and an amazing voice, hell yeah.

Fil: You absolutely have to watch this live performance with Céline and Ginette Reno. Prepare to end on the floor and to look for a tissue ! There are shorter versions on yt with 4:55 only with Ginette, also found an HD version with 8:55, also was covered on the Dereck Reacts channel. Ginette Reno was 62 when she sang this. This was part of a Celine Dion show for the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. As part of her show, she did several duets with several important Quebec singers, probably none more important than Jean-Pierre Ferland and Ginette. Jean-Pierre wrote the song. It was Ginette's song. This is Ginette's song. (That's why everything shifted in her court, as you say.) Jean-Pierre also sings, but he's what is called in French a chansonnier, meaning the texts of his songs are more important than his vocal abilities (which have indeed been affected by age). PS - What you're seeing from Celine isn't sadness. It's emotion. Ginette was young Celine's idol..... Powerful pipes !!! Ginette was a few times on Johnny Carson but had lots of trouble with english and had always been far from skinny --over the years her weight fluctuated lots--- She also had children and so crossed out an international career where she would have been HUGE without a doubt. That woman is also terrifically funny, speaks pretty much all the time without a filter, she's all emotion. She also did a few movies, one with Paul Sorvino who was stunned as you will be with her voice and bought a ton of her records. This song can have a lot of different interpretation, someone's passing, how life can change two people and then separate them, etc but you don't need to understand a single word !!!! Please do an analysis of Ginette !!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3alY3ZvjN1jg9k&start_radio=1

Very happy to see a Celine analysis video Fil. I'm obviously a bit biased, as she is my ATF female vocalist. But you mentioned the vocal fry...she's definitely not known for it, she's more what I refer to as the "songbird" type voice. I don't know if it was a conscious decision on her & Rene's part, but the 2013 album Loved Me Back to Life contained a few songs with a significant amount of fry. Water & a Flame, Didn't Know Love & Breakaway. (Not to mention an amazing cover of the classic Seventeen from Janice Ian, produced by Babyface) It definitely seemed like a concerted effort to produce a different sound for her. I would love to see you put her on the "machine", and let's see the pitch control. Thanks again for all you do Fil. Many hours of enjoyment for your fans.
