Dusty was a rare talent who could sing the deepest soul to the lightest pop and everything in between. She was taken too soon, but thank you Fil for doing this and educating your subscribers about her and keeping her memory alive.

i was at the RAH that night and the crowd went absolutely wild throughout the show, standing applause after each song, it was one of the highlights of my life being there as I had followed her since 1963 and was fortunate to meet her several times. Best singer ever.

I was a teenager in the 60's and I always loved her song " You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". The way she belted that song out was incredible; what a strong voice she had...WOW..!! It had a superb arrangement and she nailed it.!

All right, she had a very distinctive voice and furry phrasing. But by 1979 she'd entered a mannerist version of herself. Look at Dusty's poor effort at "Lose Again" in that concert: wouldn't put a stitch in Linda Ronstadt's panties.

Thank you so much for responding with this awesome review of the one & only....Dusty. Fan comments reflect the greatness of her talent & profound impact on so many: Discovering Dusty Springfield is like discovering Plutonium. No words to express her supremacy. An immense, astonishing & timeless talent. No one comes near her before or since. Sit in the dark and listen/watch her sing most anything... and you may find the earth stops turning for a couple of minutes. She paints a masterpiece with her voice. Beautiful, spine-tingling....absolutely sublime. She goes someplace in herself and pulls out pure unadulterated soul. She still nails you to the floor whenever you hear her sing...whatever you hear her sing. Pure vocal soul genius. Classic elegance...Sheer class. A stunning, brilliant interpreter of song with a spectacular voice, utterly without pretense. She was an immense talent. She had an astonishing voice. And it doesn’t date. Mesmerizing perfection…. Spellbinding, jaw dropping sophistication. Only truly known on recordings that most of her fans never heard. Spine tingling…. Her voice cuts right through you. Sultry & smokey, breathy & dripping with emotion, deep longing & smoldering vulnerability. She slays you with her voice. News of her death sent a chill down the spines of anyone who had been touched by her music. She's showing the Angels how it's done now.

This is one of the best and most beautiful descriptions of the magic of Dusty's voice that I've ever read. No singer has ever touched my soul the way she has. I've listened to almost all of the best female vocalists, but Dusty will "always" be my favorite- hands down. She had that rare gift to be able to bring tears to your eyes and melt your heart with how she used her emotions. This oh so special woman had it all and gave it all. We are so blessed.

Great Dusty piece and BRAVO for your continued good work. Dusty holds a position beyond Icon, if you're of a certain age she's in your DNA and when she passed it was the shared sense of someone in your family having been lost. Crazy, I know. Easily the Greatest Female Vocalist the UK ever produced. And by the way Dusty did more to aggressively promote black female singers than anyone AND refused to play to segregated audiences in South Africa...

I love Dusty and her catalog of music. Because of this review, I also respect her for so many other reasons. It is a good feeling to know that Dusty was a great citizen on this planet. I’ve always been proud of the fact that the Beatles demanded integrated audiences be allowed in their American shows. I didn’t know Dusty did this as well. Thank you Fil for this information on one my my childhood idols.

Being the Son of a preacher man, l always identified with this song lol. I was the bad boy rock n roll rebel preachers son in town with hair down past my shoulders that went on the road at 18 with my rock group. My dad was so cool though .. he knew l could sing and play and write and do it well...he knew music was in my blood and told me to follow my passion. He supported me always, talking of me with pride to anyone who questioned what l was doing This song takes me back in time. Thanks Fil!😎🎼🎵🎶

This is the song I am most familiar with of Dusty Springfield's. Powerful voice, great stage presence considering she wasn't getting anything back from the audience, so true ! And definitely did not know about the history of her career in music or her personal matters, both with her sexual identity and health. I cannot imagine the courage that took for her to come out in those days! Thankfully society and cultural attitudes have changed now but in some places still have a ways to go... R.I.P....Dusty.....Thanks Fil !!....✌❤🤘

Never seen her this loose, kidding around! Trying to loosen THEM up probably. Her VOICE is so striking, so emotive, just the best. I watched a bio here on YT that said many music people believed she was the best female singer Britain ever put out. I Agree. And she was a bit ahead of her time, with female singers being mostly pop, not more hard stuff. Such a perfectionist, so the songs sure sound great. I'm a huge fan, been so since around 1967 when I was in high school. Now I've got her discs out and going to start listening again. You WOULD know how good she is, which is so cool. THANKS, your my fave reaction person, and your a professional, too, which helps. Sorry for long post, just a big fan. Lost her too soon.

Oh, Fil- THANK YOU!!! You recognized Dusty not only as an amazing singer, but also for her contributions to equality in re: race, sexual orientation, etc. Dusty is one of my very favorite artists (if not my favorite, period). When I was around 11 years old, my parents took in a college student and gave him room & board in exchange for keeping an eye on us kids. He had "Stay Awhile/ I Only Want To Be With You" & played that album constantly. Initially, being into the Beatles, Monkees, etc. I didn't get it at all, but Dusty just grew on me, and before long, I was asking Jim if I could play his Dusty album. When Jim graduated from college a few years later, he gave me the album- I was SO touched by that, and I still have it! Thanks again for recognizing an ICON! ROCK!

Thanks for another great analysis. When I was a kid, we had radio on in our house A LOT. I only knew a lot of music by sound, never seeing the performance. When this song came out, I thought she was a black singer. What a surprise for me when I saw her on a TV show! 😂😂 memories! Dusty became one of my parents favorite artists. Was so blessed. I loved a lot of my parents music. Later, my parents returned the complement. They enjoyed a lot of my favorite performers. My mother might have even loved Boy George MORE than I did. Music was a huge part of family life. We didn't go on many vacations. We went instead to see live music preformed. I have seen so many MUSIC GREATS ! ❤👧 luv Harmony Portland Oregon U.S.A. .

"She could hold a note for days." Indeed! Fil brings out a great point as to how well Dusty could control her voice even as she got older. This is a really cool thing about certain female vocalists whose voices just grew into even more wonderful instrunents with the passage of time. It is as if they looked Father Time in the eyes and said "Ok, watch this then!" They just seemed to have taken it in stride and explored different aspects of their gift. Talent in all its manifestations. Can you imagine the great sounds singers like Karen Carpenter or Patsy Kline would have conjured up had they lived?

Not only in near perfect control to my ear the quality of Dusty's voice is akin to a fine, reed instrument. It's unique quality truly sets her apart - like, the early recordings in the 1960s are incredibly special. A genuine singer with emotion and pitch perfect in each perfectly delivered note and phrase, so glad we have her legacy of recordings and performances.

She could belt it out as needed. I wish she'd recorded more music.

You are a great reaction poster. And, I love Dusty, so so so talented. Her voice is deeper here, more powerful, but I really love her softer vocals, like on "the look of love". But, she was incredible, period. Thanks p.s. LOVE the history you give, very enlightening.
