Linda Ronstadt stated that the quality of Emmylou's voice was so pure and prayerful it was like she was making a last, desperate plea for her life and, if she could just sing this song, it would save her. I had been listening to Emmylou for decades when I finally got "Desire" and started listening. After a while it dawned on me -- I ran into the bedroom to my lady and said, "Listen to this." I played her a couple of tracks. I asked her who was backing Dylan and she couldn't quite tell. I said, "I think that's Emmylou Harris!" She about fell out of bed (which was quite a trick because she was paralyzed from the neck down). Later I checked the liner notes, and sure enough, it was. As if a Dylan album wasn't good enough by itself.

I have been a longtime fan of Emmylou! I met her backstage in 1982, after winning a contest. Her voice is just so uniquely beautiful! The Trio albums were the best collaboration of all time in my opinion as well. She collaborates with so many artists, and like a butterfly 🦋 on a 🌼, she adds so much more intrinsic beauty to all of these artists performances!! I am a big fan of Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, etc., but conversely am a huge fan of Pink, Rhianna, and more! Emmylou, though, has been one of my longterm fav's since her first album, pieces of the sky-- given to me by an older brother, who is now passed.

Yes, "Tulsa Queen" is also from the Luxury Liner album. It also has always been my favorite of Emmy's and Albert is amazing all over it. It also has the best version of "Pancho & Lefty" aside from Townes Van Zandt's original. It's also the one song she has performed in just about every live performance she has done, and I always expect it and I never tire of hearing it.

"Tulsa Queen" is such a beautiful, haunting song, co-written with Rodney Crowell. It often seems presumptuous to think you know who or what inspired a song, but this might have something to do with her having lost Gram Parsons a few years before.

Have loved Emmylou since I first heard her in the mid-70's. She always had excellent guitarists and other musicians, well-known ones like James Burton and Albert Lee, but also the lesser-known but brilliant Frank Reckard. Only a little of his stuff with Emmylou on KZbin, but worth checking out.

albert lee may have been playing that telecaster equipped with a parson-white b string bender invented and perfected by Clarence white and gene parsons of the byrds which could approximate the sound of a pedal steel in the right hands.....in fact marty stuart now has Clarence's original bstring bender tele that gene (who was a mechanic) created.....marvelous sounds and so cool to hear....

I saw the Hot Band in Manchester- early 1976- at that time James Burton was in the band; some way through the concert, James changed to Dobro, Emory Gordy on bass switched to mandolin and Hank DeVito played the bass for him. Unquestionably this was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. When James Burton found that the Elvis Presley tour had been booked and it clashed with his Emmylou Harris concerts, he asked Albert Lee to take over from him- and then, of course, Elvis died suddenly. Chris Hillman said he just about had to bust Gram Parson's arm to get him to phone Emmylou Harris. Here is Chris Hillman with Emmylou. Herb Pedersen who also features is the harmony vocalist on Emmylou's hit "If I Could Only Win Your Love." The song "Wheels" was a Chris Hillman/Gram Parsons song that Emmylou also recorded. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4TSoWRohMeif5I Here is the original Hot Band with Burton demonstrating why he's the best- he makes it sound easy to be so tasteful- at all times: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eIHCaGmJa7BqfaM It was his 80th birthday last week- he's the last survivor from those greats who defined rock and roll guitar back in the 1950s.

I saw Emmylou in 1979 , when Ricky Skaggs was in the Hot Band . ( At that show Ricky Skaggs pulled double duty , first playing with Emmylou , then playing with Buck White & the Down Home Folks .) But just the idea of James Burton on Reso , and Emory Gordon on Mandolin is boggling .

Gram Parson's roadie, Philip Kaufman, later became a roadie for Emmylou Harris, and much preferred the working conditions. He wrote a real interesting book about it. There's a funny movie out of those stories, called Grand Theft Parsons. It tells the real-life story of Kaufman stealing the corpse of Parsons and driving it cross-country to Joshua Tree Park and burning it, according to a pact he'd made with Parsons before he died. My favorite moment in the film is when Christina Applegate (playing Parsons' ex-wife) witnesses a huge fireball in the night sky. The other passenger in her car, a policeman, says "Holy shit! What was that?" Applegate calmly answers "That would be Gram Parsons.....on fire."

My dad is Glen D. Hardin. He was musical director on Grievous Angel. He met Gram in Vegas when he was playing piano for Elvis. Gram wanted TCB to record with him. Gram was extremely gracious and literally drank an entire bottle of whisky before their first session, from being nervous! 😆 My dad loved Gram. He met Emmylou through Gram. My dad quit Elvis, and went on with Emmylou. It was the saddest day when Gram passed. Kaufman lived on Chandler Blvd at the time. In the San Fernando Valley. We lived close by. Kaufman was a good friend of dad's, too. Sorry the story in the movie is very inaccurate. Hollywood had to put their bs into it. Kaufman needed the money. You know, Kaufman lives here in Nashville and was working as a bartender. He had a bad motorcycle accident few years back, and the mf recovered like a champ. However, his "cock" tattoo was rubbed of during the accident. I could tell stories all night long.

One of my favourite albums by her was " Last Date ". It was a " live" album, but she didn't have Albert, Rodney or Hank on it. Still a crack band, though. It featured a few Gram Parsons' songs as well as songs by Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, the Everly Brothers and even Hank Snow , Buck Owens and Floyd Kramer. Quite a variety of material on a single album. I recommend it highly.
