This version of Kashmir is incredible. The whole concert was incredible. Wish I could have been there. Such an amazing band. I’m almost 63 & a grandmother. Led Zeppelin is my all time favorite band & I love Robert Plant’s voice! I just discovered this site & will be watching others. Thank you for your respect for Zeppelin. For a band who got together 50 years ago, their music is still strong, even with the youth of today. I love to jam to the old Zeppelin tunes as I’m driving along & there have been many times a teen I’d pass would nod to the music & give me the thumb’s up! Led Zeppelin is my all-time favorite band. I was too young to see them originally, and I would honestly have given a kidney to be at this concert. Thanks for mentioning how great the whole show was, because it really is so tight, and they also seemed to be having so much fun! I am so glad to have this DVD. Robert did an amazing job with the vocals, but I suspect he realized he couldn't do that night after night, so that's why he was opposed to a tour. As much as I wanted to see them, I have to respect him for that. As for Jimmy, yes he did have some rough performances over the years, for various reasons, but man he could bring it too, he is the riff master. And I can always, always tell it's him on the guitar whenever I hear him, no question. One of the best things about Led Zeppelin was, even though all 4 of the parts were amazing, the whole was still greater than the sum of the parts, because they were just so fantastic together.

In my opinion Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd are two of the best bands ever. Even later on in life they are still just as impressive if not more so than their younger selves. Thanks for reviewing this amazing band and of course legendary guitarist. Jimmy is the man.

Always been fascinated by Jimmy's red Les Paul Standard with the B-Bender. That's a LOT of routing if it's a les paul. ;) I've probably heard more live Zeppelin footage than any other band -- Jimmy worked a GREAT deal on his live tone for this show. When someone like him has time to prepare, production is going to be otherworldly. And his tone has never been better, imo.

One of my favorite Live video's by Zep is "Achilles Last Stand" from the Knebworth 79 show. After 2 and half years of hiatus after Robert lost his young son. It is magical, and shows how great they were. There is a point where Robert and Jimmy glance at each other and there is a giddy smile/shrug as it's going so well. Had John Bonham not died I think they would have taken the world over again!

Hi Phil. I was happy to see that you did an analysis on this 2007 Show titled Celebration Day. Zeppelin reunited for this first Full Length Concert in nearly 3 decades in Memory of Atlantic Records Founder Ahmet Ertegun who passed away in 2006. The Band spent considerable time in rehearsal to insure that they put a Great Show. John Bonham's son Jason rose to the occasion by Capturing his Dad's power and phenomenal Drumming abilities. A world record 20 million people inquired for a chance to hold a ticket to this event, which is the back story as you now have Led Zeppelin’s Celebration Day. If you look online, there is footage of Zeppelin in Rehearsal playing to an empty Venue. Quite interesting to see how they prepared for the Big Show. Unfortunately, Robert Plant has made it very clear that he has no desire to ever reunite for a Zeppelin concert tour. He stays busy actively pursuing his solo career.

Probably the best Zep have ever been. Robert Plant was simply amazing. The way he held the note at the end of the "arab" section is remarkable. Jimmy on top form and JPJ and Jason absolutely perfect. Watching the DVD blew me away.

When I saw Celebration Day I was also expecting some old guys collecting more pension funds. Their first song seemed to confirm it a little bit because Robert Plant's voice was a little rusty. But after that it became really good and I ended up getting emotional watching it. Here were some guys who knew of their previous "reunion" disasters who were now determined to uphold their standards. You could see a lot of practice had been going into it and they even got John Bonhams son Jason. I can live with this being their last gig.

My daughter gave this CD to me for Christmas gift and we all watched it Christmas Day! I saw Zeppelin in 1977 in Chicago and was absolutely Godsmacked at how awesome this show was! Hi, Phil! Melodie again. I can tell by the twinkle in your eyes & the smile on your face that you are a Led Zeppelin fan! Especially, when Jimmy Page is doing what he does best, play those guitars! My all time most fave band & each one brings it every time, as far as I’m concerned. I agree with a previous comment that JPJ didn’t get the recognition deserved, but he is so talented & brought his uniqueness to the group. John Bonham was so skilled at his drums that Led Zeppelin ceased to exist the day he died. Luckily, John Bonham passed his DNA on to his son Jason, & it was Jason’s life’s dream from a little tyke to play with Zeppelin. Of course, Robert & Jimmy got most of the recognition being front men & exceptional at both their crafts. You are so right, that once you’ve got it you don’t lose it! Robert Plant can still sing as well if not better in a different, more matured way. Still, nothing can top his youthful sound either. And, Jimmy Page. Need I say more? White hair & all, he is an icon to other guitarists who’ve strived to be as good as him! The four members of the band had a special chemistry & I think that is the most important thing aside from talent I don’t like to think of them as aging, but after all, they are only human. Extraordinary, humans, but mortal just the same. It happens to the best of us. At least, I hope they stay around as long as they can & give us more music if it’s what they want to do. I think since 2007 LZ had performed as good if not better since Song Remains at Madison Square. They are fully focused, invested and passionate about it. Jimmy is definitely on track and Roberts vocals are the best I've heard in years. This is why LZ is LZ.

I think that this live version is better than the original studio version. The energy level comes through like static electricity. The whole concert is great. I wish that Jason's drums were mixed a little louder in the recording especially in this song. John Paul Jones once again shows he's an irreplaceable part of the group on bass and keyboards. Jimmy and Robert don't seem to have lost a step. All the songs were as tight as I've heard them. Great concert video.

Everyone always talks about Jimmy and Robert, however, very little is ever said about JPJ and his musical contribution to the overall sound. This song wouldn't have nearly the aura and atmosphere that it has were it not for JPJ. If he was to suddenly stop playing, there would be a huge hole in the sound.

Another Recommendation here! This reminded me of Yes in their Hall of Fame induction performance. After all these years, they were still absolutely flawless. Jon's vocals were incredible for a 70+ year old man. Didn't sound a day over 20. It was sad to see Chris Squire not on stage, but Geddy was a welcome addition. That said, I showed that video to my mother, who was the one who introduced me to them, and it made her so happy and nostalgic that she cried. And then I cried lol. It was a beautiful moment. Music is just beautiful!

This performance was from 2007. Zep released the DVD "Celebration Day" in 2012. The delay was because the other three guys were hoping Plant would agree to a reunion tour, but he said, "no", and it stayed 'no'. People who were there said they fixed a lot of mistakes for the DVD. Robert admitted in a press conference for the DVD launch that sometimes when he went for a high note, his voice went south. That was fixed in studio.

To me, it's like cooking. With a good dish, what makes it what it is, is various ingredients. If you take an essential ingredient out, it won't be the same. You will know it. With the many of best bands, it is not the same when certain members are not there. There is a feel, a bond and a chemistry. It's a combination of things that make a band what it is. The Led Zeppelin reunion was still awesome, but without John Bonham, I don't know if the surviving members would like to carry on with that band. Great video. Cheers!

This "one off" show was Zeppelin at their best as far as I'm concerned. I would've loved to have seen a new CD and tour come from this but Robert has the issue about it. It's also sad that Robert has said that "People can't seem to move on" from what they achieved because it was so game changing. I don't think you move on. You add to it. Some creative people especially John Lennon want to erase it from memory because it wasn't perfect, or what they wanted. Or what it could have been. And they feel stuck. So they pretend it doesn't exist. Others don't. I saw John Paul Jones live with King Crimson some years back. And he did When the Levee Breaks on steel guitar. No vocals. It was wonderful. The audience loved it. As I'm sure you know. Music is an art form which allows you to do something creatively when you are young. Then do a bunch of other things, as well as age. Then when you are faced with playing that old song again, you can bring those experiences and fresh ideas to it. You can't do that with say painting. As Joni Mitchell says, "No one ever said to Van Gogh, paint a Starry Night again, man." Joni Mitchell is someone to look into. Robert is looking at the whole thing from the perspective of a person in the band. I have been a fan since Led Zeppelin I at the age of 9, and I never got to see Led Zeppelin live, and I'm not unique. Think of all the Led Zeppelin fans there are in the world only a tiny fraction of those people got a chance to see them live, when they were going strong. A concert would be announced, the tickets would go on sale, 10 minutes they would be in the hands of scalpers, who could ask any price. Why bother to stand in line for something you have no chance in getting if you aren't there camped out 2 nights before? And even at the time stadium rock had it's share of detractors.

Live aid was rushed they had no time to rehearse where as the celebration tour with Jason they rehearsed a whole bunch. Plus the drumming in live aid was really off nothing agsinst Phil Collins but it wasn’t even close

It was good to spotlight this performance. This is a haunting song that has to be sung and played just right. The Zep got it right on this one. Maybe with age came some restraint from the overuse of chemicals which enabled them to get their act together and show that they still have it and more importantly, care about it. It seems to me that in recent years even the mild, "fair weather" LZ fans have come around to recognize and appreciate such LZ songs as Kashmir, Achilles, Since I've been loving you, maybe When the Levee breaks, No Quarter. And at the same time maybe sort of eased off a bit on such LZ classics as Stairway, RnR, Dazed & Heartbreaker. I prefer to get off of the beaten path myself as much as possible. Led Zep newbies should check out tracks such as The Rover, Out on the Tiles, Houses of the Holy (the song from Physical Graffiti), Baby come on Home, Tea for One, Down by the Seaside. Just my 2 cent rant for today. Excellent channel Phil !! Subbed.

Analyze JPJ bass on Ramble On. One of the most underrated musicians in R&R since he could pretty much play anything you threw at him well...very well.

Biggest difference: Page is clean and they had a ton of time to rehearse for this performance. For past reunions, none of that was true. That performance is likely the last time the band (with son replacing father on drums) will ever perform, especially since they finally showed that they could bring it again.

It certainly is a nice change of pace to be pleasantly surprised. They sounded better there than they had during much of the time since 1973. They sure knew how to play to the excesses of the music industry, and that was the biggest reason for their downfall live :) If you want to hear true greatness, listen to anything from 1969-1971, when they were hungry and out to prove that nobody did it better.

It's so nice to see a Led Zep video that kills all of the other bad performances. Jimmy Page kicks serious ass. I'm sure there was a period in time, as the previous videos show, that there was something wrong with him on a mental level.....seems to me he's got that all sorted and is back in true "rock god" form. When Bonzo died, Robert lost his best friend. Jimmy lost a dear friend, and the band that was his dream. It seemed to kill something inside him. He couldn't touch a guitar for a year or two. When he picked it back up again he said he could hardly play chords. What made things worse for Jimmy was that Bozo died at his house.

If I hear the word sloppy again he was a studio musician at around 18 if you were sloppy you would not get called back and as everyone else has pointed out his studio work was not sloppy now when he played live that was another story he was reaching growing trying for a sound and a feel not for perfection I heard him say many times I can’t play the same solo I don’t remember because most is off the cuff some solos have to be the same you know what songs I mean if you don’t play guitar I will give you a pass but us guitar pickers should know better you don’t have to be a fan but sloppy I don’t think so

I will add that Page was the man that *improvised on the spot* most every solo and every song live and changed things around with every single performance. I think some people can't even grasp that. They just say "blah blah...sloppy..." I never knew anyone who could improvise so well and do that consistently like he did for years and years. He was going for the feel of the song, not the technical, boring shit. If he wanted to be technical, he'd have no problem doing exactly that, but he didn't like it that way so much. That is why he didn't choose to stick with studio work. Boring. Technical. No risk-taking, no feeling. The main reason he is so widely admired is because of his feeling for the music. He is unprecedented in that vein alone. I tire of every single uneducated wanker who complains about sloppiness from Page. After 1977, fine. He was completely out of it from heroin. Before that time, no, he wasn't sloppy. He just had the balls to play right to the edge and take lots of risks at every performance. He didn't want anything to do with playing it safe by doing the same song the same way as on the albums, like a majority of guitarists in well-known bands. Once in a while, it didn't work out as nice as he wished. Most of the time, he pulled it off so well as to render goosebumps with the listener.
