Roy is a Nor Cal. guy. Grammy winner. Works without a net; improvise within the structure. Blues historian. Met him at his garage sale.! I'm a collector, and always ask if they are selling musical instruments. The little girl said no, but said her dad played music, as he looked up from underneath his hat. It was Roy. One of the great slide players. He is out there touring. Always a treat to see one of the greats.

I've been listening to this Roy for a long time, he used to play a lot on a double billing with Norton Buffalo, great musician. As a side note I always thought his style of dress was a bit 1930's style, sort of a musical Eliot Ness look LOL

Being a playuh myself (over 40 years) I love it when I can listen to a guitarist and NOT know what he or she's doing. It's then that I can really enjoy it because it seems mysterious again like when I first was hearing all those classic rock players in the 70s. This guy is doing so much! Nice shirt. I became aware of Roy Rogers in the 80's. One of the best. For many years my favourite acoustic slide song was Johnny Winter's "Dallas" from his 1969 eponymous album. For his electric slide playing one of the best performances I saw was his "Highway 61 Revisited" from Bob Dylan's 30th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Gardens(1992). I only found the audio of it on KZbin, then I Googled it and found it on Daily Motion. I'm not sure when his addiction to painkillers and other habits started effecting his playing, but in later videos (eg. Crossroads Festival) it was just sad to see. Another slide player I liked from the 70's is Stefan Grossman. Most of his KZbin clips are either instructional or don't involve the slide.

Unreal Phil, first time after over 6 decades I have seen a slide in a 12 string. Thank you for letting us know what the heck was going on to produce is tune, which is obviously Special. On the 12 string seems like the set up alone makes it more difficult. Another artist added to my list for next visit to Easthampton to old school recycled CD, DVD, Cassette, 8 Track and vinyl music store. A place once one of the largest music stores and now just a small storefront. Because quite frankly I've never heard him unless perhaps with John Lee Hooker. Quickest 11 minutes yet Phil. As a guy who predominantly plays rhythm rather than lead I have to say Roy's rhythm here is absolutely exemplary. What strikes me is his rhythm is stellar even when he's playing lead lines. The man's like a machine, but not in a sterile, clockwork way. He manages that great skill of being tight but loose, if you know what I mean. Too many lead players can get a bit sloppy with their timing when they take off with their fancy solos and breaks, but not this guy. Always bang on it, no matter what he's doing. Very impressive indeed.

many people confuse them when they think Roy Rogers. there's like when they watch NFL TV to hear James Brown it's not the James Brown you think of..roizen awesome Blues guitarists jam with Bonnie raitt many times and used to play with the late great Norton Buffalo one of the best harmonica players ever who we sadly lost to cancer few years back.

What rock have I been under ? The only Roy Rogers I’ve ever known about rode a palomino named Trigger, and fought bad guys. THIS Roy Rogers Is just a plain bad out slide player that forgot his manners when handling that guitar. Im sure he had to apologize to it for all of the string burning abuse not to mention the neck mauling he gave it. ONE BAD SLIDE MAN ! Thanks for introducing him to me.
