And that was the key! They almost always firstly had fun. Paul talked about it and said that music has always been a hobby. Imagine changing the world, but just with a hobby. It was a key awareness that enabled their ability to continue to create music. (If they had to worry about changing the world they probably wouldn't have even tried.)

My mother and my aunt drove a station wagon with me and 4 other freaked out Beatlemaniacs in the back holding up Beatles or bust signs for over 200 miles to see The Beatles in Chicago. We got to sit up so high in the stadium we all had nosebleeds, and ringing ears and partial deafness for a few days afterwards from all the screaming, including our own, which started way before they ever hit the stage..and didnt stop until way after they had left the stage...only stopped then because we ALL were crying our eyes out because it was over and they had left the building..much like Elvis. One of the most wonderful days of my life! I love my mama!! Thanks for another great one Fil.

The Beatles logged thousands and thousands of hours live around Liverpool, England, and in Hamburg. One Beatles scholar has calculated that they played well over ten thousand hours of live performance. And they probably played "Long Tall Sally" everyday and possibly several times a day. The Beatles were experts on their instruments. For instance, a lot of critics wonder whether John was a good guitar player. In fact, he could play the riffs or boogie lines of any rock and roll number in a set and simultaneously perform the lead vocal, just as McCartney sings in falsetto on "Long Tall Sally" and plays the bass. I certainly wish that the camera man had caught John playing that solo in the first break. The Beatles weren't big lead players like Clapton and Hendrix but they were extremely self-confident and strong musicians. They could step up to mic and knock almost any rock and roll song out of the park. For the apocalyptic version of "Long Tall Sally," listen to their performance caught on Hamburg Tapes. That performance probably collapsed a few stars in the galaxy. Ringo is on the drums--New Years Eve, 1962.

It is known fact that Little Richard himself taught the way how to sing the famous "ooh ooh" to Paul, when Richard was playing on the same club in Hamburg the Beatles did. It was a bit before they got the record deal.

The Beatles’ secret weapon was their rhythm section. John and Paul are the most famous creative duo but Paul and Ringo are the *other* creative duo in this band. They are just so special, even now there is perfect synch magic whenever they perform together, people watching them in-studio often comment on it.

The excellence of your analysis, if you don't mind my saying, reminds me of the analysis of Mozart's music given by Antonio Salieri in the movie Amadeus. Of course his tragedy was that he did not recognize his own genius but was obsessed with coveting Mozart's talent. By the way I just got back from Martin Barre's concert here in New Hope Pennsylvania... He did a Beatles cover of I Want You/ She's So Heavy. I agree with this guitarist's analysis: this is an incredibly difficult vocal to pull off!!! How do we know? TRY IT!!! Try singing that without it sounding raunchy and amateurish...if you don't just miss a bunch of notes altogether!!! It is hard to hold a pitch when you are singing that high. McCartney can do so much with his voice: from Long Tall Sally to Michelle to Yesterday and back to Oh Darling!!!!

ROY CHRISTOPHER yeah Little Richard was a real down to earth kinda guy. The Beatles sure did an awesome cover. I remember buying The Beatles Rock’n Roll Music Album volume 1 in cassette when I was a kid and playing it till it wore out.

Glad you mentioned it : The time spent in Germany and Liverpool was their training time. By the time we heard about the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, they were full fledged professionals . They had already paid their dues and were ready to just start raking in the rewards.

When I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show oh so many years ago I knew even at only 9 years old that something begain forming in my mind about how music would influence me. It was like an awakening. I can't put it into words but the experience was not only emotional but mental and physical. Hard to communicate it but it changed me somehow.
