LOL it's P-E-D's like the letters, not "Peds" which is short for something very different. It stands for Peformance Enchancing Drugs which is a broad term that mostly refers to steroids, but also encompasses things like amphetamines or speed.

In general it was fair, he could’ve used more specific percentages like what % of pitches are strikes in 2-2 counts instead of just using all the pitches for a percentage but impressive either way

the thing about Babe Ruth is that when he played pitchers were not any where near as good as they were only 20 years later. for example, no player had ever played like Ruth did and they didn't know how to pitch to him because many of them rarely through offspeed pitches and not a single player had truly thrown a great one besides Christy Mathewson who still only through 2 pitches I highly doubt that Ruth would be able to deal with Kershaw's curveball or Scherzer's slider as a result of this and the fact that his swing was loopy and had a huge middle-in hole that current pitchers would exploit like pitchers back then didn't know how

The steroid era is loosely defined as 1994 through 2005. The problem is wider than those years, but that was the height of it. Bonds was an all time great, guaranteed hall of famer BEFORE he started taking steroids. Then 2 massive steroid users, McGuire and Sosa smashed the coveted single season home run record. Only Babe Ruth and Roger Maris topped 60 until 1998. Then Bonds and McGuire both did it. McGuire hit 70 and Bonds hit over 60 in back to back seasons. Bonds had seen enough. He jumped into the steroid pool with both feet and became the face of the scandal. It is the reason he is still not in the hall of fame, despite having the best numbers of anyone ever. He hit 73 home runs in a season and also took the all-time Home Run crown from Hank Aaron, who in turn took it from Ruth. Bonds is the first to hold both Home Run crowns since Ruth made home runs a thing.
@Sam_on_YouTube
@Sam_on_YouTube 4 жыл бұрын
@MetalCrow448 That's true. That's why Bonds wasn't actually the best of all time. Guaranteed hall of famer if he hadn't cheated, but he would have had to settle with the other all time greats instead of trying to tower over them. That wasn't good enough for Bonds, at least not in an era where so many others were doing it. Maybe in another era he could have resisted. But in the end, he didn't.

Hi, Luka, The video briefly mentions Ted Williams while talking about players who had seasons with OPS over 1.250. Williams was one of the greatest hitters of all time, and a fascinating character. Unfortunately, he played long enough ago that there isn't much good video of him. The writer Richard Ben Cramer wrote an excellent profile of Williams for Esquire magazine titled "What Do You Think of Ted Williams Now?" You can read it here: www.esquire.com/sports/a5379/biography-ted-williams-0686/ I encourage anyone with an interest in baseball history (or in great writing) to read this piece. Does anyone know of a good video about Ted Williams?

For the sake of running numbers this is cool but I don't see why he gets all worked up at the end about whether or not he ran a fair simulation. Of course it's not a fair simulation, it's entirely impossible. After a handful of at bats pitchers would realize Barry Bonds decided to stop swinging the bat for some reason and they would start pumping strikes and his obp would probably be about .050. This is obviously an interesting simulation to see the impact fear had on his stats, but it's obviously not a legit simulation, so it's kind of funny he then wonders if his approach is wrong or if the 57% chance of a random pitch being a ball is "wrong somehow." Like of course it's wrong lmao.

If you love stats, baseball as a sport is the king of stats. I think you'd really enjoy watching the movie "Moneyball" with Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill. It's all about a GM using math and stats to build a championship team with very little money, based on true story of the 2001 Oakland Athletics. Even non-baseball fans like the movie. You're a sports fan who loves stats. You'd love it.
